"Tank" comanions?...

The tank companions you receive early in the game start strong but become more or less pointless by belsavis, they mitigate so little damage that they will often die in a pull with 1 strong 2 normal even with gear.... (tested with smuggler/consular)

an easy solution would be to add the stance armour buff to the pets that players posess. ie +100%

as it is once you reach a certain level, it doesnt matter what role you are bar healer, you use the healer pet as its simply the most efficient.

I'm playing a Jedi Consulor Sage and have the companion Qyzen Fess as a tank. So far to level 25 he's a great companion. I send him in to tank and heal him from a distance. I'm able to take on Gold elites 2-3 levels above me one on one, or group trash with no problem at all. I make sure to keep his armor and weapon updated when ever I get a chance...

The only real challenge is that he doesn't always hold agro as well as I'd like, but one learns how to deal with that.

i leveled most of the way with M1-4X as a DPS commando and i have to say it was a breeze. Get the moddable droid parts and spend your commendations on new mods as soon as your level permits. most of the time my companion would live through a gold star, while it's not as much as a player could take, for a pet it's pretty baller.

Me and Dorne my healer can live through two gold stars and a silver star and can solo champions. Try that as a dps with a tank companion, you won't make it.

Not entirely true.

I'm a DPS with a tanking companion, I just recently (yesterday) solo'd a Heroic 2+ mission. The groups of enemies were a mixture of elites/strongs, and the final boss was a champion. Solo'd it with moderate difficulty.

I keep my companion's gear updated, though.

You need to stop generalising with this type of comment. Tank companion is pointless?

As a sorc healer, Khem Val (properly geared) can just be sent in on a group of mobs while you mix damage, heals and interrupts.

Back in my 30s I spend over 150k on gear for forex, I myself had purples and blues on me as well. It was waste of money.

Nahh, I keep my Kira companion fully updated in own crafted gear! It makes a huge difference! She dishes out a hell more DPS and also stays alive longer.

I'd like to see you go against 2 elites and a strong at the same time as dps/healer

M1-4X seems a little easy to kill for a tank companion. I have him very well geared and I am a healer so I can keep him up but it seems like I have to spam heals on him just to keep him upright on gold stars. Dorne and Jorgan seem like they can take at least as good of a beating as Fourex. I still use him though because I think his character is pure awesome.

Boy, aren’t we an ungracious one. Since I'm not familiar with that location, I don't even know if it's on the republic side. Could be Empire for all I know. That's why I qualified my statement with my level. No need for you to be a butt about it.

Sure, let me just reroll, find a healing companion, find a group of enemies...

What would be the point?

You claimed that a particular setup would fail in a given situation, which isn't true. I'm not going out of my way to disprove another one of your claims.

I think it's pretty natural for tanking companions to have the most overt display of scaling to where more and more slack need be taken up by the player.

I am only 28 thus far on my highest toon (sorc) and have benefited by my being thorough about doing all flashpoints/heroics/regular quests at least once which leaves khem and I fighting mobs usually 2-3 levels under me, but I still find myself with little issue keeping him alive against multiple strong mobs without breaking on CC (beyond short stuns) as long as I toss him a bubble at the start of a fight he's good to go.

Now the one place where he finally hasn't kept pace is that I am no longer as readily able to bonzai through 2 man heroics with him alone without taking my time/using significant CC/popping the occasional medkit.

Some of that has been a little bit of laziness to his gear (he has been upgraded but only as rewards come with little overt effort keeping him completely up to par), but overall I think it quite fair the rate he scales. I get the feeling by that in 5-10 levels I may have to be more on the ball to keeping his equipment updated if I expect him to be a reasonable tank, but again at the end of the day I think that's rather fair.
