Recent news begs optimism!

I've heard some promising news lately about many bug fixes including the ability delay bug. Also, the fact that many fixes are going to be continuing to be patched in the coming months is good news. Their also starting to listen to the community by acknowledging we need dps meters & combat logs. I feel more and more confident that Bioware is going to take this game to a new level. I feel sorry for the people who jumped ship to early, i hope they come back.

Heh. No, actually, they won't. First impressions are important for a reason. I'm personally expecting us to lose between half and two-thirds of our playerbase on the 20th. I'd be happy to be wrong though.

Source? Citation needed? 50 to 75% are so unhappy with the game that they're going to leave, is that what you're trying to say? *SARCASM*

Hmm listen to the community that wants those and ignoring those who don't ? Nice wishful thinking there but its nice that you can just pull crap out of yer rear end.

I'm in the "if things aren't on the way to being better in 3 months" crowd. I'm giving the game some time for more endgame, add ons, UI customization, those things. I don't need all of them in 3 months. I just need to see that it is happening.

There are logical reasons to include them and most of the player base wants them. The only reasons i've seen for people being against it is "then it becomes WOW!" which isn't really true and "it'll flip a switch and destroy the community!" which again, is not true.

Source?

How do you know most of the player base wants anything? I sure as hell don't want add-ons or cross server anything.

Other than "fluff" and "nice to have for some" I know of no logical reasons why it needs to be implemented in a game like SWTOR. (which, thankfully, is not as endgame leet raid oriented as some other games in the market right now - just alot of people wishing it was)

Also "most of the player base" is quite alot for you to speak for...

I think most of the player base don't want those in game (c wat I did thar?)

My source is everyone I've talked to in game on my server. Some don't want them but after a discussion most change their mind. Even the general chat trolls. I'm sorry, I can't link you an actual pol, and even if I could it would be extremely questionable as truly poling a playerbase is hard, but just try talking to people. Ask around. I've met maybe 2 healers that think the current UI and no Add ons is ok. They were also new to healing.

Game just came out, rushed out to make the holiday sales too... Patches being done regularly, some weekly others almost daily. And you don't see any optimism in that?

I think too many kiddies were expecting WoW2 and extreme polish on something that is too new to be perfect.

The problem nowadays is the combination of hype meets gloom and doom. Every new MMO on the horizon is the next great thing, every pre-existing one is wrought it flaws threatening it's imminent destruction.

Many of these flaws are very real and present, not foolish enough to write them off as nonissues.

That said, I can remember when Warhammer, Conan, and Rift were all supposed to be that 'next great mmo' that ultimately failed to meet expectations. Some were impacted more by the flaw side (Conan) but all were a combination of flaws and overhype netting the expectation of something revolutionary.

What happens now is a certain cross hatching of nostalgia and burnout that throws a whole lot of mixed messages into the lot (I wish it did X, Y, and Z like this game--- but A, B, and C are too similar to that game). Every game has certain elements you can cherry-pick as what you would like to see in your ideal MMO, along with commonalities that one wishes did not exist.

Ultimately nothing will meet either the hype or the gloom and doom, most will now stabilize somewhere in a middle ground. The era of an all-consuming Juggernaut of an MMO a la WOW from late vanilla through early WotLK is quite unlikely to exist in the current climate, as it will now be about a solid share over market dominance.

Because of this there will always be a new MMO on the horizon that on paper looks like the latest and greatest, while existing flaws in current ones will be even more victimized by a 'grass is greener' syndrome because of the variety of mid-large market MMO choices.

While I would love to be able to tweak the UI, as a dedicated healer on my main (the third MMO that my main has been a healer on) I am completely happy without addons.

There's at least some thought and attention going into healing (especially group healing instead of pure tank-focused situations) when done without any assistance as compared to having my screen being massive grid of timers and notifications telling me what should be done when.

I have raid healed in an addon-heavy environment (WoW through early WOTLK), and raid healed in an addon-free environment (LOTRO) I have to say that given experience with both I very much prefer the addon free.
