Re-watching the cinematics, I can't help but feel sad

THAT'S the game I wanted to play. Not this slow paced 5 minute conversation to go turn off 3 switches.

I really hope this game gets a second chance by like teaming up with some developers who can shake up the core gameplay and make everything feel tighter and more action packed.

There's no shame in asking for some outside help, bioware. We get it, your name is everywhere with this game. Well use that massive wallet you have and go get some people to make this a proper star wars MMO.

LOL! The video's were obviously NOT of gameplay. They were cinematic, not representative.

I think his point was that the desparity between the two is so great that he would rather watch the cinematics then play the game.

this is my problem with cinematics these days. They have nothing to do with whatever they're trying to sell. It's just for the suckers who get sucked in by the "shiny" and blindly throw their money at whatever makes them go "oooohhh" and "aaaahhh".

They're a huge time and money sink and do little to show off the actual product.

I know you guys don't know me, but this is why advertising in any form makes me want to puke.

Correct and incorrect. They're supposed to be representative of the experience the developers want you to have; with the pace of the story, the climax of the action, and the threat of failure, they're trying to present you a cinematic version of the game you're playing.

The best example of this, I think, is the opening cinematic on Left 4 Dead. It brilliantly demonstrates the kinds of things you do in the game while laying on the big-screen effects.

The problem with the TOR cinematic, however, is that the pacing between the movie and the game is wholly different. Gameplay is much more strategic, slow, paced, than the cinematic lets on--in fact I'd argue that the opening cinematic (Malgus vs Satele) would better serve its function in front of a FPS or TPS--not an MMORPG.

So you're right, there's supposed to be a clear difference between what the cinematic shows you and what you ultimately experience in-game, but if the cinematic doesn't have to represent the game, we might as well just watch clips from the original trilogy.

And for so long as the trailers succeed at doing what you've described, they shall continue to be made. Humans are funny little monkeys. So easy to control, manipulate and abuse. They'll even pay you to do it to them! :D
