reaperkeepet Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 (edited) Why not? I mean it could easily be done. There could be something where when you hit level 50 you get to purchase different weapon professions from your trainer. Or just something like that! I'm not saying BHs should have a lightsaber but maybe a vibrosword? Blaster rifle? Why not? Edited January 13, 2012 by reaperkeepet
likertj Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 Because they'd have absolutely zero skills in using them.

I'm not saying BHs should have a lightsaber but maybe a vibrosword? Blaster rifle? Why not? PvP. More specifically, without class exclusive weapons, your character is not "iconic" and so doesn't have an easily recognizable distinguishing feature or silhouette. Want it changed? Remove PvP from the game.
jaGator Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 PvP. More specifically, without class exclusive weapons, your character is not "iconic" and so doesn't have an easily recognizable distinguishing feature or silhouette. Want it changed? Remove PvP from the game. Having learned PvP in Dark Age of Camelot's end game system, I would contend that PvP is better when it isn't always obvious what a toon was. Healers specifically would often be disguised as tanks. Most everyone in the RvR groups I ran with would be in all black/brown being harder to see coming at you. In this game Force Melee toons can be disguised until the lightsabers come out by wearing non-force style armor. Personally I think that powertechs should use rifles instead of pistols.
bravotwentysev Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 I call BS on skills or PVP excuse. To keep things as close to realism of the SW world. This is needed as BH's didnt only use PISTOLS! Some used a wide range of weapons to capture their target. RiflespistolstechbladesVibroswords. Come on we need this.

They always do.
Syas Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 Honestly, I like it. Less competition for some drops.
chrisftw Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 I'm all for my Smuggler who is supposed to be an iteration of han solo to have a lightsaber. or my Jedi Sage with a Assault Cannon that would be cool. or not..
reaperkeepet Posted January 9, 2012 Author Posted January 9, 2012 you would shoot your eye out. lolololololololololol

Jedi/Sith would be limited in terms of blasters. Just like the ranged classes would not be allowed lightsabers. So you're wrong. Edited January 9, 2012 by reaperkeepet
Caelith Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 You can have what ever weapon you want when you let me have real force powers. Force lighting should damage all electrical equipment, force choke should stop you from using chat etc.

Remove PvP from the game. This makes no sense... Melee (sabers) keep melee weapons and ranged uses ranged... PVP was enabled in SWG and it was done this way... not that hard to figure out what you're fighting based on what it starts doing, lol... I'd love to have the opportunity as a Sniper to use that pistol that only shows up in cinematics...

Absolute_Zero Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 BH should be able to use blaster rifles, and troopers should be able to use pistols that is all
DevonLoy Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 Just want to point out something from KOTOR, your character could use any kind of light saber it wanted. I don't think guardians should be able to use the same weapons as sentinels or shadows. But I think they could put it in as an aesthetic option so haurdians could still use shields etc. You would not get the bonuses for those weapon types but it wpuld just plaster over yours.
Sun-Runner Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 This makes no senseThe original poster asked "Why No Cross Class Weaponry?" (as per the thread's title), and that is what I answered. It isn't my reasoning and I'm not defending it. It is what it is.

Because it's not a stated BioWare reasoning. Saying, "We want people to have iconic weaponry so the really bad PVP'ers don't have to know who shoots lightning, only that Polearm Lightsabers mean Inquisitors" has not come from BioWare. reaperkeepet Posted January 10, 2012 Author Posted January 10, 2012 BH should be able to use blaster rifles, and troopers should be able to use pistols that is all You just gave me a great idea. What if each class SHARED their opposing side's class's weapon. For example, BH get's both a rifle and Trooper gets to use pistols in the same fashion as the BH. IA could use the same pistols as the smuggler, and the smuggler could use the same rifle.
pjskull Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 (edited) My only thing is I wish there were more weapons. The same pistols are getting old. Oh, I agree. I wish we had access to more weaponry. Maybe quests to get Blaster Pistol Proficiency...? (For example...) The animations are in game and the damage is the damage... I would *love* to see my Sniper get those Gunslinger Pistols... I like this, I've never understood the need for a PC's appearance to have to telegraph your role just to make it easy for your opponents.

Kissakias Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 cross class weaponry? BH with heavy cannon and Smuggler with a sniper? not good to my eyes
