Can I Not Craft Items Myself?

I realize that as an aspiring Sith, certain every day tasks are considered beneath me. However, I think that time spent at a crafting table with a few short "casts" would be less annoying than having to entrust my companion to do all the work. Can I not craft items myself? I had imagined my ship would include a crafting bench for me to use when I have spare time to do so, yet there is no such feature.

No, you cannot craft items yourself; your companions do this instead. If you are on your ship, you can view them crafting at the workstation there.

Having your companions craft allows you to do quests or other things while the crafting takes place, similar to missions and grey loot selling.

Is a man not entitled to the workstation of his own ship?

NO! says the droid butler you hate, it belongs to those beneath you to do meager tasks.

NO! says the quest giver, you should be out adventuring!

NO! says your 5 companions huddled around it, it belongs to everyone!

Fantastic reference, though it doesn't cheer me up much since I can't make things myself quicker...

If you wanted to craft yourself they would probably still have you crafting for 40 minutes, because the time cost associated with crafting is what balances it currently.
