galactic trade network questions

I have a few questions on how the GTN works that I can't find in the manual.

1. How are the suggested prices determined?

2. How large is the deposit and how does it change based on the length of the auction?

3. Is the GTN global for each side, or is, for example, the Imperial Fleet GTN different than the Dromund Kaas GTN? Are there separate GTNs for the Republic and the Empire?

4. What is the commission for selling an item, and does it vary based on the length of the auction?

Thanks!

1. IDK, but it doesn't matter because the price of similar items is what you should use to sell your item

2. I don't know the math on this, but I always do a 6 Hour auction when I will be able to check the GTN and/or in game email for the entire time period. If the items are priced right they should sell within 2-3 hours during normal play times. If i'm going to be logged out for more than 6 hours, I'll change the auction time to 12 Hours. If I will be logged out for more than 12, then 1 Day, etc.

-Keep in mind that you get the deposit back when your item either is sold or the listing expires. You only lose the deposit when you manually remove the item. Unless I'm going to bump up the price quite a bit, I will typically never remove an item.

3. I know for sure that the fleet and dromund kaas share the same GTN, don't know for sure about any others.

4. GTN commission is 3%.

I hope this was more useful than the stupid link that the customer service droid gave you. If you're paying attention BW, you could have at least told them about the 3% commission since its a static amount(The commission rate should probably be in the manual too.

Don't know about everything else, butt the commission isn't 3%. I just sold an item for 240K and they took 6% for the commission. I am a sub, and not f2p, so maybe it use to be 3%, or it is a certain percentage based on a certain price range.

Hope this helps

Cheers

1. Suggested GTN price is 4.5 x vendor price. Usually you want to just slightly under-bid the lowest per-item price for similar items (shift-click your item to search for it), but don't under-bid too much under the suggested price because you may be better off selling to any NPC vendor instead.

2. Deposit depends on the "rank" of the item, and increases with the duration (6 hrs vs. 2 days etc). Low level items will have a smaller deposit than high level items. You get the deposit back if your item doesn't sell and expires; if you cancel it you lose the deposit. So basically you want to aim your sale for prime time server-time, and have it expire sometime in the wee morning hours.

3. GTN is global. Used to be separate but they combined Empire and Republic at some point after the game release.

4. GTN commission (tax) is 6% of the sale. You pay it when your item sells.

Suggestions for GTN use:

1. Always check prices for similar items; you don't want to underbid too much, or not make a sale because of an exorbitant price. For armor, for example, I usually check the price of similar armor +/- 3 levels, and price accordingly.

2. Bug: if an item has a two-letter word in its name (for example, "Relic of the Republic"), the search button will dim and you can't search for it. Remove the two-letter word ("Relic the Republic") to re-enable the search button.

3. The price you enter is for the whole stack of items, but often they sell based on per-unit price. Thus, it helps if you round your stacks to even numbers. For example, it's easier to figure the pricing for 40 units of Green Goo than for 83. Once you set up a round stack (40), the GTN will remember your pricing and you can add the other stacks (the remaining 43) and it will have the price automatically match.

4. There are many low level players, many max-level players, and fewer mid-level players. Just because of the leveling process, with everyone either trying the game out or racing to max level and then staying at max level. As a result, low and high level items are cheap, and mid-level items are expensive. Plan your sales, and your gear sourcing, accordingly.

EDIT: Necro-ing threads is bad, mmkay? This is 2 years old. Don't do that.

Necroing might be bad but your reply is what I have been searching for. All of the other posts I came across were from 2012. This reply has all the information that I wanted and its all current.

Thank you.

And, yes, I am Necroing it again because your post answered all my questions while the wiki pages and official pages did not.

Just to clarify a bit: you only lose your deposit if you cancel a sale.

When your item sells, you pay the 6% "GTN tax", but you get your deposit back.

This isn't a bug, it's as designed. Disallowing letter text strings shorter than three characters improved search performance. The only exception to this is numbers.

I thought they only combined it if you sold from Nar Shadda, otherwise it only goes to your faction.

That hasn't been the case for almost two years.

Game Update 1.3: Allies

The Hutt Cartel has seized control of the Galactic Trade Network! All Galactic Trade Network kiosks now connect to the neutral GTN, allowing players to purchase items listed by players of the opposite faction.

Who suggest this ?

If I understand the context correctly, the 'suggestion' is made automatically by the GTN/within the game--the commenter is saying that the first value that is filled in the 'Price' field when you list an item is 4.5x vendor price.

I'm guessing the Cartel Market items (which can't be vendored) have their own internal logic for what the initial, suggested price is (aka, all belts are 1 credit, or something).
