Ghosthawks
so i played a maurader which i loved and i debated between sentinel and shadow and figured to try shadow im level 13 killing is easy but idk its not fun story on consular is ok i guess
Adordrius
the consular story (thus far, as im only level 22) centers mostly around uncovering the mysteries of the galaxy, I don't want to spoil too much, but the first act gets a bit interesting after Coruscant. Just a note, you may want to consider a group for the mission Ancient Secrets (the last of the class missions on Coruscant). It's somewhat difficult alone. Joryssk
Maybe I'm missing it, but I've seen in several threads people claiming the story revolves around the secrets of the galaxy. Up to my story so far (granted, only 22) it's revolved around healing my Master from Sith corruption Maybe the secrets thing comes later or as a result of. OT: I'm playing as Kinetic Shadow, and I'm loving it. My main is mere levels from cap but I'm trying to remind myself why I need to get there; I'm having a blast here with this toon. To each their own. I also had zero trouble with Ancient Secrets, but this may be to my chosen spec. Edited January 2, 2012 by Joryssk
Adordrius
During Act I, the "secret" is the ritual to cure the plague. I'm sure there will be more later, but this is quite interesting to a lore / canon nut like me!
PiToREpsilon
I found Shadow somewhat fun but lacking during the early levels. Leveling as kinetic, it was only really when I got enough skillpoints to break into the third tier at level 20 that it started to pick up. It has steadily increased in awesomeness since then. Triik
This is why I am against those who complain that sith warriors/jk have too many keybinds and want to have less buttons to press. In terms of gameplay, shadows are quite possibly the most boring (along with arsenal mercs) classes to play. at anytime (even 50), you have like at max 5-6 damaging abilities. Of course this doesn't include your cooldowns and utility spells (which by the way is still way less than sw/jk. be prepared to just mash that double strike button until like 22 (2 pts in infiltration tier 3 which makes project cheaper). act 1 of jedi consulars is pretty bland, it gets better after it. darkov
Consular story goes for boring to amazing over the 50 levels. But, it is never really "heroic" so it largely depends on your point of view for what an amazing story is. Also, the Shadow isn't the most exciting PvE class, unless you're tanking for a group you're not going to be that thrilled by what you're doing. By the end of Act I ... ... you've saved the Jedi Order from a mind control plague and the Jedi Council thanks you for saving, basically, the entire galaxy. They give you a special honorific title reserved for protectors of the Jedi Order, and then they make you one of the youngest Jedi Masters. That's not heroic? What would be? LordAmyus
I must admit I was feeling bored with the shadow while playing as infiltration until around lvl 28. It was basically double strike x2 > project with the occasional shadow strike with procs/force breach on cooldown. After that, I did try balance and had a blast - if you're looking for something more dynamic, you should give it a try. You get to watch lots of procs such as the free mind crushes and around the 20s you get Force in Balance, a nice AoE skill making you use few more buttons in your rotation. Looks like balance is the frantic proc-based, dot heavy tree =) Right now I'm playing as kinetic for the added survivability and some flashpoint running as a tank but I might consider switching back to balance. I don't know if infiltration starts to pick up on later levels but right now at the early 30s, I did get some new skills such as spinning strike so if you really like the class flavor, I'd recommend giving it a chance. That said, if you believe the class story is "meh whatever boring mysteries of the galaxy", you should consider rolling a trooper or a JK. Chomag
I rolled a shadow instead of jedi knight because I want to pvp as am melee class and not spend most of my time looking at the action bar for procs and cooldowns. Knights havw a milion keys + the game doesn't have macros. Edited January 2, 2012 by Chomag

Adordrius
I felt the balance between melee and casting offered by the Shadow was a nice change compared to being stuck as one or the other. But I guess it just comes down to which playstyle suits you best.
RobNightfall
My own experience has been that if you like one you will hate the other. I've tried guardian and despised it. I love shadow so far.

I made a Shadow to level with a buddy who got in later than I did and I haven't been able to go back to my 39 Guardian. I like the Knight story way better than the Consular story so far though. The consular story is kind of lame and not very cohesive. I'm on Alderaan and am level 33 so I'm coming close to finishing the first Chapter of the Consular story. I hope it gets better. The whole healing these people takes so much out of you but it really doesn't thing kind of bothers me. Tharan is so whiny and nasal. Qyzen has the crappy alien garble and a flat personality. Nolan North is awesome though and I absolutely love Infiltration gameplay and animations. Looking forward to getting Nadia Grell. Her voice actress is so hot. I hope her delivery is good. There's got to be some saving grace for the Consular class story wise.
Malanocte
Honestly, I can't think of a time when my KC Shadow hasn't been fun. Dealing with packs was mildly aggravating until 26, but that's it. The storyline is epic (granted, not in a "save the galaxy!" kind of way, but I think the personal nature of the salvation is even better than the Planet Prison thing), and the playstyle is marvelously frenetic. I suppose you CAN play a Shadow with only 6 buttons. I'm trying to play a Shadow WELL, and I am sorely short on spaces on my primary 2 hotbars for abilities I need keybound. I plan to slap down Vivicar tomorrow. And then redeem him, if I can. So excited; been hunting that guy for nearly two weeks!
