  1. The thing is, what seems like a MMO failure to fans of the -true- MMO genre is still a success for the game DEV/Publisher. They made money off of it so yay they're happy. Even though SWTOR kinda sucks, there will always be more than enough people to play it so that EA/BW make a profit. It's the MMO equivalent of a direct to DVD movie. They seemed to have taken the safe route to an estimated X number of subscribers leading to Y profit... according to their analysts and focus groups. It's lame, corporate, money grubbing, douchebaggery imo. Go capitalism! The next really huge and awesome MMO will likely come from an independent developer. Big gaming corporations are more interested in making $ than creating an awesome game. Sadly this seems to have happened to both Bioware and Blizzard. Probably pushed directly by Activision/EA. It's really sad. Doubly sad cause they did it to such a beloved IP: Star Wars. Notice how developers known for their single player RPGs are now announcing MMOs based in their single player worlds? Now we have the Elder Scrolls series up on the chopping block.
  2. This is pretty much what I'm doing. Since my OP I filled out my gear with recruit stuff and ran HM BT where I got Columi bracers. I'm now almost at 17k health. Running dailies etc. I think i was just worried about the initial jump into hardmodes and gear requirements. My survivability seemed ok, but marauders were stealing my aggros!
  3. lol what? all ACs should be able to pump out competitive DPS. Looking at the Assassin AC, clearly Deception is our DPS tree.
  4. New lvl 50 Assassin tank. ~15k health. Where should I start as far as lvl 50 FPs and HMs? Any gear advice and other suggestions for a pve-er much appreciated!

  6. Unsubbed today with about 40 days left to play. I will play Diablo 3 starting next week and looking forward perhaps GW2 or The Secret World. I will continue to keep an eye on SWTOR as I really want the game to be awesome, but at the moment it just isn't. Here are my main gripes. 1 The world feel lifeless. Populated by mannequins. 2 Too much instancing and loading. 3 Low player population makes finding a group a chore. 4 The game runs like garbage on my 3 year old comp. 5 No open world PVP. There's no Tarren Mill in SWTOR. They just seemed to design this game for people who want to solo. I want a more sandboxy MMO with lots of world pvp. Bioware, please go back and look at all the good things about SWG (Crafting, non-combat classes, large open worlds) and incorporate then into SWTOR. I promise people will come back if you do.
  7. I was hoping the higher level legacy would take over. My marooned BH is legacy level 18 and my new main is legacy level 2 -_-. Bioware auto-assigned me to a server that died a quick death and I was all but forced to re-roll on a higher population server. None of this was my fault, why should I continue to suffer and maybe even pay a transer fee just to get to play my original main?!
  8. Sad but true. They could just merge servers and not charge anyone anything. ooooor give some players free xfers and charge other players $15+ and make some money. Big surprise they chose the later... cause you know.. they aren't making enough $ from game sales and subscription fees...
  9. I hope they do this right. Using myself as an example. Pre-launch I joined a large guild via the swtor website guild finder. This guild was auto-assigned to the Veela pvp server. Couple months after launch Veela died and most of my guild quit the game. This left me with a level 50 / Legacy level 18 Bounty Hunter. Frustrated I re-rolled a Sith Inquisitor on Ajunta Pal (A thriving RP-PVP server) and have been there since. Ajunta-Pal = Med-high pop server. Veela = Low pop server. Will I be able to get a free transfer for my marooned BH??? It's not my fault the server population dropped so I should be able to xfer him for free to my main's server right??? Also I have legacy on both servers, how will that work?
  10. None. One of the biggest mistakes they made when developing this game was adding too many planets with small, multi-instanced zones on each one.. and no universal chat/lfg channels. they need to make the planets they have more alive before adding more planets.
  11. Info like this is useful, at the very least, because it's evidence that SWTOR runs poorly compared to another game that is considered industry standard (or should be).
  12. Maybe you're lucky and have the right sort of hardware/drivers, but this is a widespread issue plaguing the game. There are countless posts documenting it. Make a short video of you autorunning forward, open your bags and then close them again. or just tap the B button a few times in a row. Record that and post it.
  13. So opening a bag doesn't freeze your game for a split second? so quest updates don't freeze your game? so when another new player comes into your vicinity it doesn't freeze your game? I call BS. I have 3 PCs in my house 1 i7, 1 i5 and 1 core2duo and this problem happens on all 3 computers. Now imagine PVP where new players are constantly rendered, quests are constantly updated and you might have to open your bag or another ui window mid fight. This will essentially look like really bad FPS as the game keeps freezing for a split second while getting the data needed to render the graphics. Amazing..
  14. The problem is certain events cause the game to have to query the server for data and the game freezes for a split sec when this happens. No computer can over power this no matter what the specs. Need proof? Hit B to open your bag. or C to open your character sheet.. or L to open the mission log. or any button that opens a UI window. This will cause the game to freeze. This is especially apparent when you're running/riding forward. This also occurs anytime one of your quests update or a server message is displayed on screen. Ever wonder why the game seems to freeze every 2 secs in Ilum? It's partially because of all the quest updates that you see displayed on the screen. Not only that, but ever wonder why when you're out questing on a planet the game freezes for a sec and then a couple seconds later you see another player? The game also freezes every time it has to render another player.! Some of the worst game design I've ever seen.
  15. But I love when the game freezes anytime another player comes near me. When I'm out on a planet it's like a warning that another player is near even though I don't have line of sight on him LOL. Actually it's not funny at all. All these weekly DEV Q&As and I still haven't seen them address why the game freezes anytime you open a ui window, or another player comes near or a quest updates. Also what the hell is with the game taking 60 seconds to close. You know I had gotten used to it "not responding" when I tried to exit out of SWTOR. Then I played the D3 open beta last weekend and when it closed in 1 second it struck me again how broke SWTOR is..
  16. I use Firefox by default, so that's the browser I uploaded mine with. It's interesting to note that when I click any of the XML files, the window opens and asks me if I want to download or save the file, that window tells me it's an XML file, but the file downloaded always lacks an extension.
  17. Graphics, engine, UI > FPS lag are among the greatest problems plaguing this game.
  18. The amount of dumb in this thread is impressive. Recent events make me worry for the future of MMOs. Not even kidding. Game devs really need to stop listening to this forum dribble.
  19. Not sure why, but the all the downloaded ui files are missing the .xml extension on the file name. I've tested it, and simply adding ".xml" the the file name allows it to be used in swtor. Tried it on both mine and my GF's computers just to be sure.
  20. I've tried uploading mine repeatedly but am getting comments about how it's not an XML. Guessing it's an issue with the site. Just a heads up to the admins.
  21. Updated an improved version of mine. Screenshot: http://mmo-mechanics.com/swtor/uifileshare/screenshots/ASzUbcY3.jpg XML: http://mmo-mechanics.com/swtor/uifileshare/master.php?hash=ASzUbcY3 Enjoy!
  22. First off, I think they should have given the 30 days to anyone who's been subscribed since day 1. I have been and did receive. Thanks BW! Now. I see quite a few "players" who can basically be described as someone who has disposable income and doesn't even notice the $15 charge every month cause they "have a real life" and "barely have time to play". I'm guessing these people log on do a few class/planet quests and log off. They're probably not in a guild nor have anyone on their in-game friends list. But yet they've been subscribed since launch and have 8 alts all around lvl 35! I'm not saying these are bad players. I'm saying they're not contributing much to an MMORPG. A player with at least one level 50 have probably run a few FPs and WZs, typed "LFG" at least 999 times and talked to a few other players here and there over the course of their character's life. Maybe even gone to Ilum and seen how fun that is. These people are contributing to the MMORPG. Also, another thing that bothered me was the argument that a player leveled their main to whatever level they completed their class quest and then rerolled on another server without ever hitting level 50..?? This just seems weird to me. Do you think that Bioware intended for this to be how a class is played? Not to mention leaving your server sure does a lot to help. /sarcasm In the end my guess if they pulled up some sort of data based on your amount of time spent in game and how much you're seen (IE: you played a lot or not so much) and awarded based on that. Again, I think they should just give it to everyone who's been a paying customer since launch. BUT I can also see the logic of awarding players who have reached max level and haven't unsubbed. Because many have and the ones who remain playing are most certainly among what should be considered the most valued.
