  1. Ha. I wouldn't call that my measuring stick -- just that the absence of it "felt" off and therefore got me thinking about the numbers. The one thing that's missing from your equation up above is the loss of 11 constant power by going with the Obroan relic. That makes the difference essentially marginal, particularly if you factor circumstance and RNG into the equation. If the FR relic procs a couple of times during your filler phase between double gore windows then, depending on the length of the fight, you would have been better off with the BA relic. For things like duels, heroics, flash points, trash pulls, and short boss fights the BA relic is going to be superior most of the time while the Obroan FR is really only going to be superior on ops boss fights (albeit, most important) and the parsing dummy. Even then, not by much, and there's something to be said about having some control over your burst too.
  2. No joke? Time to start saving up.
  3. Is the Obroan Relic of Focused Retribution really superior to the Underworld Relic of Boundless Ages? I haven't parsed with it yet (something is wrong with my torparse) but I'm not ripping aggro off the poor tanks I run with right after my opener like I usually do and something just "feels" a little off as a result. Tough to put my finger on it. Even the math is a little sketchy off the top of my head though: 425 power for 30 seconds vs 625 main stat for 6 seconds at a rate of only once per 20 seconds. In a best case scenario, you probably only have 625 MS for 7-8 seconds out of every 30. Admittedly, I don't remember what the cool down time is for the BA relic but for the initial 30 seconds of every encounter 425 power for 30 seconds >> 625 strength for 7-8 seconds. EDIT: Not to mention a loss of 11 constant power by going with the Obroan relic over the UW one.
  4. Just curious... Is PvP gear superior to PvE gear in open world duels or only in war zones?
  5. I'll field this one. If you're a dps, then your role is to do as much damage and score as many kills as is conceivably possible. It can have a lot to do with skill. I run a carnage marauder which, despite the OP's obvious ignorance, is arguably the most challenging class and spec in the game. If you know your rotation and you play it well (aka skill), you can rack up spectacular damage numbers and kills that can be vital to your team's ability to win the match. It's not always all about damage though. There have been a few times playing Novare Coast where if everyone is beating their heads into the wall trying to go after mid, I've skipped the mindless bloodbath and mowed down two players guarding a turret to capture it for my team, then stood guard until reinforcements arrived. I may not finish tops in damage when I do that but by taking an objective, I brought more value to the team than if I'd kept attacking mid just to rack up damage numbers. Conversely, in 4 v 4 arenas, when I'm tops in damage and just scored 5 kills out of 8 in two rounds where the objective is "last man standing", you best believe that has a lot to do with skill. Not if you do it well. I could present the same argument to you that what you're doing takes no skill either, like with the two people guarding a node or turret that I mow down en route to solo-grabbing it. All they did was click a button to take an unguarded turret, sit there doing nothing until I got there, then died. To one player. -- Now to the OP and the "single brain cell playstyle" comment: L2P. Seriously. I really hate saying that because it just comes across as elitist but you couldn't be more wrong about carnage/combat spec, which just so happens to be my favorite to play. I use 28-30 different keybinds throughout the course of every war zone, which is more than what you use for your "more challenging" toon. A lot of people act like maras and sentinels just sit there drooling on their keyboards and spamming a few buttons over and over again with one hand while the knuckles of their other drags the floor but that's simply not true. If it wasn't for us single brain celled smashers, you would never win a single war zone and most of you would be dead. We kill the people who are coming to kill you, whether it's attacking or defending an objective, so please have some respect . Every role is important in it's own way.
  6. Wanted to come back to this since I'd been away from the game for a little while. I've probably played about a dozen war zone matches in the past couple of days since coming back and, kind of like what some of you are saying, there hasn't been as big of a difference as I was expecting at level 55 without PvP gear yet or without the set SithBracer is recommending as a suitable alternative. I do feel quite a bit more squishy at times but with a good healer I'm still able to finish first or second in damage and kills -- one time without a single death. There are some outstanding PvP healers at level 55 btw so kudos to all my healers out there keeping me alive. Bracer (or anyone else): would purple level 50 implants and earpieces work as an alternative to the blue 148 rating ones since they pack more main stat and power or are 148 blues specific? Lastly, I noticed that the bolster icon/buff was still there in my last couple of matches (didn't look during any of the others) and that's with mostly 72 gear. Am I still being bolstered then or does that icon always appear in war zones?
  7. Wanted to come back to this for a moment. Does the Obroan Relic of Focused Retribution stack with the UW Serendipitous Assault? I'm a couple hundred ranked comms away from being able to get the FR one but won't be able to get the Obroan SA for a little while still until after I replenish my comms from that purchase.
  8. Thanks. It didn't seem right to me but there was enough truth mixed in with their statements (about the Obroan relics, for example) that I figured it would be worth inquiring about on the forums in case I missed something.
  9. I was rolling with a group tonight who told me it's now better to go with all overkill augments as opposed to might augments and that it's better to have your accuracy in the 101-102 range at the expense of some surge. Is this correct? I'd been playing with an accuracy rating of just over 100 and a 75+ surge rating along with all might augments based on everything I'd read here in the past and just wanted to find out if that way has become old news.
  10. Sweet. I just brought a marauder to level 55 as well and am assuming that the Conqueror relics work in PvE the same way as the Obroan? I blew almost all of my war zone comms and ranked comms on planetary comm conversions while I was leveling (yeah, I know, dumb) or I would've gone straight to the Obroan ones.
  11. Alright so I've read the guide and it seems to indicate that I'm going to be cannon fodder at level 55 without PvP gear. I wish I hadn't blown all of my WZ comms on planetary comm conversions while I was leveling. Will I get any kind of bolster at level 55 or am I going to be a bucket of suck for awhile until I get PvP gear?
  12. I know what you mean, OP. Sometimes I feel like I have to be an octopus in order to play my sentinel and marauder to the absolute best of my abilities. The buttons on a Razer Naga are too small and too close together for me and I see nothing but a high probability of miskeys; a Razer Tartarus is left-handed, which feels awkward, and has about a half second delay between when you key an ability and it actually performs/animates. I prefer keying abilities with both hands for maximum dps and because it feels like more of a "fighting rhythm", if that makes sense. What this means though is that I don't always do well in fights where there's a lot of movement. Strangely, and somehow, I'm actually pretty good in PvP and consistently finish in the top 3 in damage and kills with a top score in probably one out of every 3 or 4 war zones. It can feel a little awkward at times, hectic most of the time, but unequivocally fun when done well. As a carnage marauder and combat sentinel, I have almost 30 key binds that I use at some point or another in almost every ops run (including defensive cool downs, relics, adrenals, medpacs, targeting, interrupts -- which includes force stasis, so don't get rid of that one -- and the impairing abilities). Like I said: octopus. Your life as a watchman sentinel is easier, but really, the only abilities I can think of that I never use are riposte and slash. For combat spec, slash is replaced by blade rush and riposte has no usefulness to me outside of war zones. Even in war zones I rarely use it because there are other, better abilities that can be used in its stead. Bottom line here is (and some of that was just a rant, really, because even I get frustrated at times by only having two arms with two measly hands at the end of them for all of this): don't start removing abilities from your quickbars because you will get used to it in time and if for some reason you don't? Then yeah, probably a good idea to play a different class because all of this doesn't get any easier in HM and NiM Ops.
  13. Do the Obroan versions of those relics proc in PvE?
  14. Wait... So you can legacy swap with GSF gear?
