  1. ^This! Yes! Please make a 64-bit client happen. WoW's 64-bit client seems to load much better and, if done right, might help this laggy, jittery client out a lot! I agree with the above quote too. Having windows open up and stall the entire client for a second feels really clunky. Other games can open windows and keep moving along without such a hitch, why cannot this one? 64-bit sounds great. I have 32GBs of RAM in my PC. Let this game use more than around 2GBs! (which in my own observations is about what it tends to use) And do whatever can be done to smooth out client performance in general!
  2. Thanks all for your replies! I am still weighing my options as I have some good ones. Thanks again!
  3. Hello! I am looking for a friendly, helpful, mature, Republic guild. I am interested in OPs, FPs, world bosses and other PvE content. I do not enjoy PvPing and I don't RP. I have been out of the game since a little while after the server merges. Due to that and some other factors my previous guild is no more, I'm sad to say. I took a break and am looking to start up again. My main is a level 50 Trooper Commando. I am a competent healer and that has always been my favorite role. I don't cause drama and would like a guild relatively free of it. I have some alts I'd love to level and a leveling buddy/buddies would be great! I played since beta and know the game pretty well. I just need to play catch-up on what I've missed. If you are a representative of a guild that I might be a good addition to, please PM me! Thanks. :-D
  4. If you are basing combat pets being a bad idea simply because SWG had pets that were too big then that doesn't make it a bad idea. I agree, giant pets that get in the way visually would be a bad idea. I never said they had to be rancors. I also didn't say copy SWG exactly. Refine it. Take the good from it, leave the bad and adapt the concept to fit this game. I think having pets out that simply provide buffs is a little silly, in my opinion. We have buffs of different types already. That would get into a whole weird balancing act whereas having a fun/different alternative to your normal companions would be fun and, if they are balanced correctly might offer some variety and not cause any issues. Imagine a combat pet about half the height of a player, like one of those hound things in the blackhole area that has some damage mitigation, high health, and some aggressive agro-grabbing stance as a melee tank. That sorta thing. Not some gigantic thing that makes seeing what you are attacking impossible. You did make a good point though, about how the size of the pets could be a problem. I agree totally. As to the name, I don't care what they call it. I just used that name as a starting point.
  5. This may have been suggested and I am sure former players of that other Star Wars MMO have suggested it but here is my take on this. Add a new crew skill called Bio-engineer. They use Bio-analysis to gather DNA from creatures of all levels. The DNA they collect is a new item looted randomly from creatures of varying levels and strengths. The DNA is used to create creatures. Perhaps they could also be augmented further with cybernetics from the appropriate other crew skills! This would fit within the story as there are a few quests dealing with modified creatures. These creatures can serve 3 purposes. 1 - Additional combat pets/companions. They don't have story, they simply exist as a combat alternative to your story companions. 2 - Vanity pets. Little versions of existing creatures or new creatures to follow you around and observe your adventures. 3 - Mounts. They wouldn't be fast as the fastest speeders but they would be fun to have, add variety to the game and maybe serve as low level mounts. I was thinking you can choose a base creature type and add qualities, strengths, abilities and weaknesses found in other creatures. The DNA items would contain stats found in the creature it was looted from. Normal creatures would produce normal stats, champion creatures give stats relative to their levels, etc. Have some balancing system in place to keep things from getting too overpowered. Have the ability to customize the appearance, size, color and other cosmetic features to some degree as well as being able to choose a name for the combat pets. I'd love to see something like this. It could add a whole new level of game-play. Create a new market and offer alternatives to existing companions. People could have their own semi-unique creatures to use. Devs, consider this please! It would allow for some creative freedom. This game needs some things like this. I'd like to see this game opened up a little. A more sand-boxy feeling with the ability to be creative. This would be a huge step towards that, in my opinion.
  6. I have an Intel 3930k, 2x GTX 580s in SLi, 3x Crucial SSDs in RAID 0 (about 850ish read speed. limited by SATA II), 16GBs of RAM and FiOS with 43mbs down and 36mbs up with a consistently low ping and 0 packet loss. Nothing about my setup could be considered slow yet this game, in many places, loads painfully slow. When loading into one of the slow to load places the loading screen will come up and the bar will move a little and then stop for a while. While it's stopped the CPU is nearly idle and the HDD usage is also nearly idle. My PC is not doing anything except waiting for something from the server! Once it gets whatever it was waiting for the load bar moves really fast and the CPU and HDD usage kicks in and loads within seconds. This is a client and/or server issue. Some people either are lucky or fudging the the actual wait time. I am getting really tired of these load time issues. My PC loads everything else really, really fast. This game is the slowest to load I have. It's highly irritating.
  7. Yes! I just relogged back in after a break to find this thing going on and almost over! PLEASE extend it! I had no idea this was going on! You need better communication of in-game events! Give us another shot at this stuff! PLEASE!
  8. I was thinking about it and I have a possible solution to the problem of permanently removing items from the game. Ok, you want to remove certain items from mainstream game-play, in this case certain speeders. They are removed for a while then at some point you introduce epic quests for crafters, in this case Cybertechs, that will ultimately lead to schematics to create items removed from the game. Make it so they need to be 50 and skill level 400. (or the max at the time) They have to go on a series of difficult quests to obtain the schematics and rare parts needed to ultimately create an item removed from the game. Say part of it is a raid on an old factory to slice an old computer that has the schematic on it. Then more objectives to get parts to craft these items. Make these items also rarely drop from high end content to grant a limited supply for future crafts. Once all done, they can now make these now rare items and have enough materials to make one. To get more make a monthly repeatable quest or just have all high end ops drop the rare components once in a while. This is good because you can make these items still available but in far more limited quantities. Crafters have some high end items they can make to use or sell. These epic missions should need a full group/ops to complete which adds more high-end content and more possibilities for grouping. Maybe there is a hole in this I am not seeing but I think this is a good solution. Just please don't perma-remove stuff BW!
  9. Nothing discourages me from playing an MMO more than removing collectable stuff forever so that it can never, ever be gotten. I am speaking of the speeders in this case, but this goes for any collectable items as well. WoW pulls this crap all the time and is one reason why I don't play that anymore. I hate feeling like, if I want cool flashy items or every recipe (wow), I have to rush, get super rich and get them right away or fear missing out on something. For once in these games I'd like to know that, one day, I will have access to the same items that the power levelers and gold/credit farmers had a long time ago. I HATE feeling punished for taking a slow, smell the roses, pace through these games. Removing things like special color crystals, armor sets (not saying they have/are doing this, just mentioning it), speeders, etc. leaves me feeling highly discouraged. Don't do this crap, BW. If you want to change HOW an item is obtained, great! Go for it! But do NOT remove things like this forever! And seriously, putting these speeders on the vendors like this was a dumb move. I can't afford them. Only the rich can and they are a minority. So what you are doing is making the rich richer and I can't do much more than stand by and watch. They will buy up these speeders and resell them at ungodly rates later on. Yet those of us with more meager sums of money are never going to get these things, weather on our own or from another player. These are some seriously stupid moves. I've been on the verge of quitting SWToR and stuff like this just inches me closer to it. Knock this crap off! Also, only Sith should be able to use red crystals in their sabers.
  10. I completely support this. I hate how vague and random the existing system is. It's not rewarding and wastes too much time, money and resources. People who say they like it the way it is can go to Vegas and enjoy unrewarding randomness there. We need a system that is more transparent and will reward us with what we are working toward with a reasonable amount of effort. Not a system where, if luck's bad enough (like i seem to have), you never seem to get anything useful until it's too late. I hate how unresponsive the devs have been on this, which leads me to another problem I have with Bioware. The communication between BW and the players is terrible. +1 on your idea. I like it.
  11. I liked this system at first. It felt like I was making progress. Now it feels like I am banging my head against a wall. I believe they dropped the rate of the schematic upgrades a LOT. I used to get a good return for my time, money and resources spent. Now I get nothing. (think i am exaggerating? i'm not) I hardly get greens to blues anymore. Blues to purples are non-existent. I've tried all the things suggested. I've used high affection companions, stood by crafting stations, leveled up as many lower recipes (pre-nerf) instead of just grinding points and focusing on the high-end and it's terrible no matter what I do! I agree that they shouldn't just hand out blues/purples on the first try but these rates are just stupid. I love crafting in MMOs and don't mind a grind. At least in other games I can feel I'm making some sort of progress. In this one it's starting to feel like a huge waste of time. They did change these rates. It's not my imagination or bad luck. It's just plain stupid.
  12. I have to agree something seems wrong. Since a couple patches ago (can't pinpoint this exactly) it takes forever and piles of resources to get RE to work for me. I am doing Biochem and I can see why they made it harder but now it takes so much time and resources now to get an upgrade that I've outgrown the upgrade before I finally get it. I agree this is no longer economically viable. Getting blues from greens is sort of a pain but getting the purples from the blues now seems (in my experience) nearly impossible. And since I need materials that can ONLY be gotten from sending companions on costly and time consuming missions it makes me wonder why I am bothering with crafting at all anymore. Devs, this is no good.
  13. I want high quality textures as well. My PC can handle it. I can't say the same for this lousy engine you decided to go with. I have an Intel 3930k, 16GBs of RAM and 2 GTX 580s in SLi so I know my machine is capable of running anything you could reasonably throw at it. So, for the love of the maker, upgrade the texture quality and get anti aliasing support thrown in. And while you're at it, fix the terrible performance of the client. This game shouldn't have been launched in this state. (for these and many other reasons...)
  14. This is mainly to the developers. I like the game very much and don't plan on quitting but I see there are many things that could use help. The following are my main complaints. I am not great at explaining myself clearly so I tend to over explain. Please excuse that. The environments feel too linear and boxed in, like they just exist to serve as quest hubs. They shouldn't feel this way in my opinion. Objects and creatures seem little more than props that exist for no other reason than to act as filler. Lack of weather effects, day and night cycles and having most creatures simply standing around repeating the same animations over and over again drain the life out of the environment. (see the guy in the Ord Mantell cantina applauding and fist pumping at the holographic Twi'lek over and over...) I really wanted the world to feel more vibrant and alive. Have some NPCs on speeders fly by. Have some walking around and doing random little things. Have a random alien NPC pick pocket some other NPC walking in the opposite direction and have a little argument break out. Details add so much in these games. Also, how about expanding the zones so that they don't feel so cramped and linear. The game has a sort of claustrophobic feel to it. The lack of character customization options also adds to this. I'd like to see more body types, more hair styles, more cosmetic options and a wider variety of armor/clothing types. Again, details! Also, why are so many of the male (players and NPCs) built like the heavy from TF2? It looks so silly that I cringe when I see it. It's just plain silly looking. I'd also like to see a way added to alter appearance after character creation. A "plastic surgeon droid" or something. The performance of the client. I have a high end PC (Intel 3930k, 2 GTX 580s in SLi & the game is installed on 3x SSDs in RAID 0...yes, they are set up correctly) and I suffer from the huge FPS drops that only seem fixed when I alt+tab to the desktop and back. In some places this does not help at all. When I enter a space mission I always have to alt+tab and back the moment I start them to get my FPS back up. Or else it's lowered by more than half and stutters a lot. This occurs in many places but going from the ship to space brings it out every time. Not to mention that even with vsync on the graphics still tear. I hate tearing and I find it extremely visually distracting. The load times are also pretty bad in some places. And FPS high or low, there does seem to be too much general stuttering. Minor complaint, the AFK kick timer is way too sensitive. Sometimes I leave for a little while to find I've AFK timed out and was booted back to the character select screen. And of course, I'm also automatically booted from whatever group I was in. I can deal with this but it's a nuisance. I do not think that changing specialization should be allowed. I do think, however, that respecing is too costly. It needs a cost cap. It needs to be scaled with level. And it needs to decrease in cost in stages. A "cost cool-down". I also feel finding a group for a quest or flashpoint is too spammy. I hate yelling in general over and over trying to find a group. That means being at the fleet most of the time while looking and doing nothing. List sorting. This really bothers me. Vendors, schematics lists, etc need to have methods of sorting that make more sense. Sometimes I want to sort by level, or by equipment slot, item type, or something else. Hunting through a list with such limited sort options is giving me a headache. The GTN. Why can't I have the GTN open and my crafting window at the same time? Why don't schematics I already know show up as "already known" so I don't have to close the GTN, open up my crafting list and check to see if I have it? Reopen the GTN (which closes my crafting window) reenter my search terms and repeat every time I check a new recipe? This could lead into a whole other thing about the UI but we already know that... The UI needs help. Datacrons. I love hunting for them but MMOs should not have jumping puzzles especially when jumping is so borked to begin with. Too many times when jumping at an object I just sort of bounce off of it or off to the side and when jumping form one object to the other my character does this odd little spasm and just sort of falls instead of actually jumping. My GF has to have me get all her datacrons for her because she's just terrible at jumping puzzles. Most of the challenge here seems based less on jumping skill and more on mastering crippled jumping controls. I am actually good at jumping puzzles and have gotten every one without too much pain but it's still obnoxious. The Codex. I like collecting lore. I like finding and reading it all. But it's not fun when many items in my codex cannot be gotten. It's unclear to me if these are just bugs or if everyone has the same list and only certain classes can unlock certain lores. The codex needs serious fixing. If my character cannot unlock a certain lore, remove the empty space so I don't search for something that I cannot ever find. And please fix the others. Also it would be a good idea have multiple ways to unlock certain codex entries. Example, my Trooper cannot do the quest that unlocks the Zabrak entry because I cannot do the quest that opens it up for Jedis. Put a sign up next to the guy the Jedis talk to for the quest so that others can get it too. In fact, for species's and creatures clicking or defeating any of their type should unlock the related entry. I saw a Zabrak sitting over there. I examined him. Yay! I know they exist now! Sorry for the novel but I wanted to mention these things. This game can only grow and get better. And to me the things I mentioned would make a better game. These are just my opinions! I don't care about PvP and raids so much. I am in this for story, environment, character development and social gaming. I hope to see these areas improved. Thanks for reading.
  15. I have the same issue. I have 2x GTX 580s in SLi and sometimes my FPS drops to insanely low levels (17fps with large levels of stuttering). This happens most often right after I complete a space mission. The FPS might be around 60ish in the space mission then when returned to the bridge of my ship it will be below 20fps and stuttering so bad that moving around is difficult. I tried alt-tabbing to the desktop and back and I'm back at 110+fps. This is using the 290.53 beta drivers.
  16. I am ok with addons if they are UI only. WoWs addons went way too far and that game became an addon blight. Macros are ok if they have tight controls over what they are able to do and only go as far as adding some minor conveniences. Make the UI better by default and throw in some light to moderate macro support and allow for some UI only addons and that should be enough. Just my opinion. I know some people need addons to essentially play the game for them. Like training wheels on the game.
  17. In my opinion you got to level 50! There's your award. Enjoy.
  18. I think there needs to be a cap on how high the costs can go. (maybe base it on level? certain amount of respecs cost more or less based on level) And that costs should drop as time goes on. It drops a notch every week, say. So let's say I respec three times in a week. A week from that last respec it drops one notch but only ever as low as the cost of the first paid respec. IE it's never free again. I think ever increasing costs that never reduce is a problem. I want to mess around with specs and find what works best for me and what's the most fun. Not get stuck in a possibly poorly chosen set of skills and know that if I want to change to a spec that might be more enjoyable that I am going to have to fork over an ever increasing pile of credits. I agree that specialization should not be changeable. One I am a Commando, say, I am always Commando. Perhaps at level 50 we can have an alternate spec for different skill sets. But I don't feel all that strongly about the dual spec issue. Just the respec costs. I agree they need to be "tamed" somewhat.
