  1. "Set" being the operative word - no mix and match. Plus, it's kind of a BS cash grab making players spend more money to use an item they already spent money to use. I can see spending CCs to unlock ALL your purchased gear across your account, or even across a single character, but no, I am not going to drop CCs on each and every single item and gear set that I already spent CCs to get. I equate this to unlocking a Stronghold room with CCs but having to pay more CCs for every character on your account to be able to use that one room. Again, it does and can from a visual perspective. You can keep saying it doesn't. I can keep saying it does. You could also, in theory, roll a Smuggler or Trooper and be a Jedi IC. What is to stop you from being a Force user if class has nothing to do with RP? The aesthetics. You cannot wield a lightsaber, as Jedi do, if you are a Trooper in-game. Weapons restrictions have everything to do with class. Certain classes have certain access to certain weapons. We just established that only a Gunslinger can dual wield blasters. How does that singular access to those dual blasters have nothing to do with the one and only class that can use them in that capacity? Going back to my previous statement, if you're a statue RPer, nothing stops you from RPing your Scoundrel pulling out his two blasters while your character model stands there rigid and unmoving. If you want the visual effect of your Smuggler pulling two blasters and standing battle-ready, you're going to need a Gunslinger. Would I roll a Gunslinger for this? Sure. Do I think I should be able to share the gear between my Gunslinger and Scoundrel, yes. That is the point of this post. Emotes that allow me to visually mimic the abilities of other classes and removing arbitrary weapons restrictions would also solve the problem, sure ... but I doubt Bioware is going to go through all the trouble. The BoL suggestion casts a wider net.
  2. It has aesthetic benefits. If you're more of a stand like a statue looking blankly at one another while you chat RPer, nope, you probably don't care that your scoundrel can't pull dual blasters in a Cantina showdown. It depends on your style. I RP with people who make use of the in-game abilities to visually enhance the RP. Certain abilities and weapons are only available to certain advanced classes.
  3. I know the topic of being able to change your character's advanced class has been discussed to death over and over in these forums. As an RPer, I would love to see this happen because of the flexibility it provides for that purpose. However, the non-RP crowd makes some very valid points about why that could be problematic and notes the potential for abuse. I'm not here to dispute that. Regardless of the reasons why those against it don't want to see it come to pass, the general consensus is to re-roll if you want to play the other advanced class. I don't really have a problem with that - I could create a Jedi Guardian, as an example, call her Ann'a and RP her. If the time comes that I need Sentinel abilities, I could create an identical Jedi, choose the Sentinel advanced class, and call her A'nna. The RP community is pretty flexible about things like this (at least my RP community), so no big deal. The problem that I am running into is the gear, the mounts, the emotes and moods, etc. RPers use all of these things to make the RP more immersive and interactive. If you're not an RPer, you probably could not care less about our immersion or interactions, and that is fine. But, like it or not, we're part of the SWTOR community, we support the game by spending money to make our characters look and act how we need them to, and our opinions should be considered. Again, I'm not here to re-hash all the pros and cons of advanced class changes. At this point, if the developers are not aware of the community's opinions on that - both positive and negative - they're not paying attention to these forums. If, for whatever reason, advanced class changes are not feasible, please consider making mounts, emotes, and adaptable gear Bind on Legacy. I don't even care if I have to be a subscriber to get this feature or pay to unlock it as a legacy option (whether with in-game credits or CCs). It isn't a game breaker, WoW has implemented these features with great success. And, depending on how it is handled, it can still be profitable. Make it a sub-only option, get more RPers (and even some non-RPers who just like to customize) to sub. Make it a legacy unlock, you're introducing more credit sinks and more opportunities for the instant gratification crowd to buy CCs just to have it now. You can even make it something that has to be unlocked on each character if you want to get real money grubby about it. Unlock it on your Sith Sorcerer and your Smuggler Scoundrel, they can share CC gear but your others cannot until they unlock it. Hell, if these things were BoL I could see myself, as an RPer, dropping money on extra character slots just to have two of everything. As someone who has spent a pretty penny on CC items, the Cartel Market is kind of frustrating as it stands. You take a gamble on CC Pack - maybe you get something you want, likely you don't. So you spend two days waiting for the item to come off cooldown so you can sell it for credits that you could have easily made doing any number of other things in the game. If you aren't a sub, it is even more frustrating because the credits are just sitting in escrow. Rarely do you get exactly what you're looking for. So now what? Do you sell those gloves or those boots you just dropped your real money on for a measly 2500 credits because the GTN is flooded with the same gear from other players who aren't getting what they're looking for from the CC Packs either? Or do you shove it in the cargo hold and hope you find a use for it at some point? It is a flawed system, is all I'm saying. Making the CC items BoL makes them more valuable, in my opinion. I would be more likely to buy CC items if I knew that ALL of my characters could use it. Who wouldn't? Do you go clothes shopping and pick out items expecting to wear them once before they start collecting dust on a hanger in the back of your closet? Do you take your kids to the store and buy the toy you expect them to play with a handful of times before it is unceremoniously dumped into a bottomless toy chest? No. You want the most bang for your buck and you're willing to spend more money, more often to get it. That's just smart. Make the cash shop more flexible and it can be more profitable. Everyone wins.
  4. Hopefully (and I suspect that this will happen) after all of the transfers take place and they figure out how to deal with the ghost town servers that have been left in the wake of transfers, they will do this to promote community. Perhaps with the "Allies" update 1.3 coming soon. I was on my origin server last night to make sure my characters were ready for transfer and I was the ONLY person on the fleet. It sort of chilling - like being in a post-apocalyptic world. Ooh!
  5. Mess up how? Like you misspelled your name?
  6. Okay, but you understand that this is a forum for discussion ... right? That is his/her opinion. He/she does not like your suggestion. He/she suggests an alternative. In the thread you started in the suggestion box. That is how it works. You can't really expect to post on a discussion forum and not have your post discussed, can you?
  7. Yep. It helps that we're so good at playing the victim.
  8. Yes, I agree ... this would be nice. Maybe as just a brief courtesy. On my old server (the one that has been offered free transfers now - thank you!) I could not really enjoy the massively multiplayer aspect of the game because, well, there were not enough players. I love this game and, like I've said many times, I want to see it succeed so even though I was heavily frustrated at losing all my slowly earned progress in the game to date, I grudgingly re-rolled on a more densely populated server. My idea was that I was just going to level off the starter planets and PVP until all these transfer shenanigans were worked out. And that worked. It kept me interested in the game and wanting to log in every day. I thought it was going to be a temporary thing but, unfortunately, I took the time up to work on a couple of characters on that server that I would love to see moved to my dominant legacy. I realize that the end-game idea here is to allow paid transfers but I think it would be a nice courtesy to allow those of us who re-rolled on higher pop servers while we patiently waited for you to solve this issue (again, thanks -- so much better now!) to move the characters from those servers to the servers our dominant legacies are on.
  9. So never going to happen. But dream big, friend, dream big.
  10. Seriously Bioware, why you gotta be so cruel?! I mean ... the guy was making a legitimate suggestion. Why move his thread to the suggestion box?! that is ludicrous!
  11. I admit (and I'm not even part of the doomsday conspiracy theorist fan club here) that when EA got their claws into Maxis they ruined The Sims for me. Not so much with The Sims 2, but big time with The Sims 3.
  12. SWTOR has an advantage in the fact that it pulls from a pre-existing fan base that is decades old. There are people who play this game not because they're game fans but, rather, Star Wars fans. It is also one of few sci-fi games on the market right now. Like I said, it fills a niche. And it will maintain a player base because of that.
  13. You forgot their tendency to present their perceptions of things as facts. But yes, I agree ... there is far too great an attitude of entitlement in the MMO community. It gets pretty political. "The voice of the people? There is no such thing. You got 240 million voices all yelling for something different. The only thing you all seem to agree on is you don't want higher taxes. The voice of the people, my fanny." - Jack Lemmon in My Fellow Americans Replace taxes with queue times and it is fitting, no?
  14. I loved it and I hope there will be more events to come. This event got people playing, talking, grouping, PVPing. It was good for my server, good for the community. I thoroughly enjoyed it and I thought the fact that a new quest opened up every day was a good incentive to keep pushing. I never felt like the dailies were too grindy so, yeah, it was fun. I liked.
  15. I really think the whole "<insert game here> is going to blow SWTOR out of the water!" conversation is amusing. If you are disappointed in this game, well, you should recall how it was suppose to blow all the competition out of the water too. It was suppose to be the elusive WoW killer! Ooh. And beta testers played it, loved it, and begged to get into early access as soon as possible. If you are dissatisfied with SWTOR then clearly it didn't blow all competition out of the water for you. If you are satisfied with it, then maybe it did do that for you. It is all subjective. Tera, D3, GW2, TSW, they're going to be in the same boat. SWTOR fills a niche so it will continue to grow and maintain a player base. The same can be said for all the others. If you don't like the game and you're clamoring for another, fine, but lets not pretend any of these games are going to be SWTOR killers.
