  1. my top reason for quitting was the whole "no lifer" atmosphere that the game was emitting. things like 30 minute balloon rides to a datacron were enough to piss me off, but then when they added legacy things like leveling alts to 50 just to unlock their race and all of that it was obvious they intended the game to be played by either children or unemployed people. I will never revolve my life around a video game again, when i did it for wow i lost a lot of friends and much of my active life. never again. other things were being stuck with companions i disliked and did not want, and basically feeling like i was playing a single player game with a monthly fee. it never felt like you were in a game world, just a series of instances and you constantly hit loading screens for everything. it would have been a great single player game that you could just play whenever you were bored, but as an mmorpg it just wasnt up to par in my opinion. p.s. people who think diablo 3 is going to be all of that, i highly recommend you check out the "real money auction house" that will be in the game. basically they are saying "bring the farmers on, we just want a cut of the money" i will not be purchasing the game and ill probably not purchase any more blizzard products whatsoever.
  2. games only switch to F2P when they cant produce enough revenue with monthly subs. sure it gets more people in the door and they make more money because people spend a couple dollars here and there which is better than the 0 dollars they got from those players before it was free... however it doesnt change the fact that if the games were good they would not need to be F2P. ...and thats really the bottom line.
  3. major flaw in your math is that people pay for subs in advance with a 2 month card or go with blocks of time on a payment plan... then when these players stop playing their accounts can remain active for months. so pulling the active sub numbers doesnt really show the whole picture. i personally bought a 2 month card when i bought the game. so i had 3 months of time when i started, but i quit playing after about a month.
  4. while 8$ a month would be a good price for a mmo, it would not keep me playing. the only reaons i even post on the forums is im just bored, i have no intention of playing again.
  5. i agree with the last couple comments. once you gain levels in both games combat is remarkably similar, and in general boils down to a monotonous rotation. i would also say wow is an actual game world while swtor is a series of instances. even the planets are just limited instances. you will never get the feel of being in a world with swtor as you will in wow. in wow you can travel an entire massive continent and never hit a loading screen.
  6. The game was designed like its still 1999. i mean if it was still 1999 it would have been groundbreaking and awesome. however in 2012 having things like 30 minute balloon rides to a datacron, and adding content that can only be achieved by players with no lives is giving your game a death sentence. a lot of people dont even take their lunch break anymore so they can squeeze in some more work time... how do you think they are going to react to a game that tells them they have to revolve their life around it? lol. back in 1999 when everyone had money and time and life was good this game would have been a smash success. in 2012 its a joke. only children and unemployed people have time for this. edit - i personally havent logged in for over a month. i only came to the forums because its sunday morning, im a little bored, and i wanted to see how bad it was failing.
  7. I havent logged in the game in weeks, and i havent even bothered to look at the forums for about a week until this morning. i think that states my enthusiasm for the 1.2 patch and this game in general. the class balancing changes dont bother me. that junk always happens. what bothers me is seeing that the first major patch for the game that flushes out the features that were supposed to be in game already is being designed for those players who can sit at home and play video games all day every day. honestly a game designed for people who can play every day and invest massive hours has a target audience of teenagers and people who still live with their parents. I dont fit those criteria. i dont see myself buying another mmorpg game, nor another bioware "story" game. mmorpg games are just always made poorly with hundreds of excuses and i always end up disappointed that i spent the money on them. bioware stories used to be awesome, but honestly playing their latest releases like swtor or me3 i feel like ive heard it all before and its the same regurgitated junk being repeated over and over so they can get another paycheck. the stories are simply not new or awesome anymore, which makes their games boring. the computer as a form of video entertainment has been on its way out for years now. this isnt really unexpected. between a smart phone on your person and a tablet in your home, with internet hooked to your TV, Blu-Ray, and Console gaming system... you have no reason to own a desktop unit anymore. once desktop units stop being sold for 'in-home', which is realistically going to happen very soon, there wont be a market for these types of games anymore.
  8. you cant really compare wow 3 months in to swtor 3 months in. the fact of the matter is the games release dates are years apart. when WoW was released we did not have voice recognition smart phones for sale on every corner, now we do. you may be able to list 100000 things swtor has over wow at wows release, it doesnt matter. its not 2004 anymore. it is now 2012 and compared to other games of this generation, its pretty low tech.
  9. i havent logged on in about a week now myself. the game is fun in some ways, but they appear to be taking the stand-point of you need to be a no-lifer to see what should be standard game features with the legacy junk and all of that. on top of that i feel like im playing a single player game since ive never grouped with anyone. i really dont understand the people who keep posting about how "BW has these awesome stories!!" the stories are generally the same regurgitated plots over and over with new character face plastered on top. personally i mash space bar like its my job when people start talking. i need a more casual based game for my life and im thinking console system until D3
  10. i mash space bar like its my job when people start talking. i mean honestly its always the same thing. go to X location then either kill x number or click x number, then return. ooh boy, the npc guy said something about paying me or someone was in trouble or some such stereotypical lines.
  11. I dunno, the game seems alright, but everything i see headed our way demands you make the game a high priority in your life you spend loads of time on if you ever want to see these 'features' and thats simply not realistic for me. i cant blame the game designers, there is a crowd for that type of game out there. some people have 6-15 hours a day to play video games. while i could say this and that, i know i would get blasted and told that people actually have time for full time life, taking care of themselves and their home, going out with friends and on dates, and all the while having 6 hours a day to play.. i mean we could do the math on how many hours are in a day, but why bother, we know the truth.
  12. yet another thing that makes me want to say "this game is being designed for no-lifers". meh
  13. after reading the notes im less inclined to keep playing. it seems to me they are designing the game for no-lifers who can play 15 hours a day. i think im better off sticking with a console and playing an hour here and there when i have time and not bothering with it at all. i know im not going to have time for things like leveling characters to 50 just to unlock a race, or to grind out massive legacy levels to unlock features and all of that junk. this is a video game and im not going to dedicate my life to it. on my priority list this is down at the bottom, which apparently means i should go ahead and quit.
  14. ive looked at Tera and it did not look like something i would enjoy. it was much too asian and 'metro'. GW2 always makes me giggle a little though, and not because i think its going to be bad or anything like that, but just because people praise it like its the new baby jesus of gaming... ...while they are posting on the forums for a game that was also supposed to be the new baby jesus of gaming 6 months ago when it wasnt released yet. do people never learn or what?
  15. its been another week and im still going to have to say no. ive only logged in to a play a couple times all week and was preferring to watch a sit-com or movie instead most nights. for me its not just 1 thing in particular, its a lot of little things. things like not leaving footprints when you walk in sand even though there are trails of footprints to follow. things like not having any control over what companions you get stuck with forever. things like i have over 100 levels between 3 characters and have never been asked to group. the game just does not grip you and compel you to keep logging to play, instead it feels like a cheap copy of an old outdated mmo. I have no doubt that if this game would have been released back in 2000 or so it would have been the best thing since sliced bread. that was over 10 years ago now though. edit - though i am baffled that the above poster thinks his PC that is not good enough to handle TOR is magically going to be good enough for an even newer game in GW2. your hardware is not going to magically update itself
