  1. Did you actually READ the quarterly report? And if so, what exactly is "good" in it that pertains to SWTOR? Unlike some of the previous quarterly report press releases, this one doesn't even mention the game anymore. http://files.shareholder.com/downloads/ERTS/2482451636x0x661442/79ff5958-b6d8-4b56-8f4f-8b3ea1fdd13f/Q4FY13_Earnings%20Release_FINAL_w_press_tables.pdf If you really want to see the future of SWTOR check here: http://www.torstatus.net/ Fact is, the game has been bleeding players every week since April. I wonder why...
  2. Not completely gone yet, hence I'm still posting on the forums Playing Planetside 2 and Defiance right now. Both games have some issues, but nothing like SWTOR. And both have smooth, lag-free engines that allow for large-scale PVP and Defiance has an interesting and expanding Scify storyline as well. I love Star Wars, so I'm hoping EA sells SWTOR off before it has run this game completely into the ground. Preferably to some company with competent PVP developers who care about and interact with the community. Naked Lolster 2.0 was the last straw for me. These developers must be the most ignorant, arrogant and incompetent yokels I've seen in 20 years of gaming.
  3. Usual vague Bioware blah-blah. They have the technology for server transfers since April 2012 when the first wave of forced server merges was initiated. Because that involved a lot of character renaming, they also have the technology for name changes in place. Since 1.4 they have the technology for micro transactions. It would be very easy to add both to the cartel market and of course, Bioware would LOVE to generate extra revenue from name changes and transfers. So why don't they? Let's assume you pay for a name change or a server transfer and a few weeks later, that server will be closed and you are forced to transfer somewhere else where you lose your name again. Naturally, you would be upset and (if you are like me) you would demand a refund. The most probable answer is unstable game population. SWTOR lost 1.2 million subbed accounts after launch and it went down to approximately 500K subs. As a result, they were forced to merge servers. Now they have something like 2M accounts total, but that includes all the F2P accounts. Outside of EA/Bioware, it is anyone's guess if these accounts really generate a significant revenue stream. To avoid customer complaints and refunds, Bioware is likely holding off until they believe that SWTOR has become a successful and stable MMO.
  4. And this is reality since December 2011: Player Base: "We want you to fix bugs, especially those that have been around forever!" BW: "What bugs - those are features!" Player Base: "We want a decent resolve system!" BW: "We gave you Resolve 1.4 - worse than before, but see how hard we work for you?" Player Base: "We want class balance." BW: "Our metrics indicate that DPS Mercs will be nerfed and Smashers need a buff." Player Base: "We want cross-server warzones" BW: "We picked the wrong engine, sorry can't do that." Player Base: "We want Open World PVP!" BW: "We picked the wrong engine, sorry can't do that either." Player Base: "We want you to interact with the community." BW: "We send a gold-text yokel once a month to tell you that we are "looking into it" "soon". Player Base: "We want you to listen to our suggestions and concerns." BW: "We have the "World's best PVP developers", we don't need your stinkin' suggestions." Player Base: "We want you to test your code and play your own game!" BW: "We just released Naked Lolster 2.0 - enough said!" After 16 months of the same ignorance, arrogance and incompetence on Bioware's part, it is hard to fathom that there are still people believing that PVP in this game will ever amount to anything at all. Don't get me wrong, I like Star Wars. Considering the enormous financial resources that were poured into SWTOR's development, I had great hopes for PVP in this game. But unless they replace their developer staff or sell SWTOR to another company who a) cares and b) has PVP competency, lightsabers alone can't cut it for me any longer. I'm not unsubbing until my guild decides to quit, but I refuse to PVP here until further notice. If you want real PVP without the glitches, bugs and foolish developers, I suggest Planetside 2 - good competitive game!
  5. Aha, I'm forced to buy a smart phone instead? Ok. Why is Bioware's Customer Support not telling us that?
  6. Agreed. Anything Bioware touches seems to end up in disaster - i.e. naked pvp, one-too-many-times passwords etc. ...and this is why they can get away with it - BW bootlickers FTW.
  7. Security Key cost money. Forcing people to buy it after they subbed is bait-and-switch type fraud. I have a static IP and I'm up to 63 one-time-passwords now. Also have business class internet and I live about 3 miles from both EA and Google, yet some password emails arrive 10 minutes late. The problem is known since the 1.72 patch introduced the new login, yet nothing has been done to fix this issue. Bioware failed yet again!
  8. I'm a PVPer and I agree with the OP. However, people should not complain on PVP servers - you get what you signed up for. But on PVE and RP servers, that's a different story: If you don't want to PVP, you should not be forced to or tricked into it. At the very least, Bioware should have the curtsey to clearly state at the beginning of a Quest Line that the quest may involve PVP. That way, strict PVEers can opt out before wasting time on such a quest. The same goes for exploit flagging. Bioware refuses or is incapable of fixing the companion exploit which can get PVE players flagged against their will. Bioware also refuses or is incapable of punishing the exploiters. Again, as a matter of curtsey, Bioware should clearly state that the use of Companions may lead to PVP. For example, this could be a one-time message when you receive your first companion on the starter planets. Instead, Bioware will nothing or respond to anything written in this thread - business as usual
  9. Nope, wrong! Leveled a MM Sniper and a Pyro PT to 55. No gear changes whatsoever on either toon. 36/75 crit/surge at 50 36/75 crit/surge at 54 25/68 crit/surge at 55 But both gained a ton of (useless) health when they hit 55. Will run the numbers on my next DPS (Sorc) at 54 and 55, but I already know what I will find: For DPS, level 54 >> level 55 More Biofiail, nothing EVER works as intended in this game.
  10. I'm 55 with 3 toons and I've decided not to PVP in SWTOR until further notice. (Sorry, not quitting yet - you all won't get that lucky) What was really needed were bug-fixes (such as broken ops chat and the various spawn issues), a reasonable resolve system, some tweaking of class abilities, some adjustments to TTK. We got none of that - again. Instead we got Lolster 2.0 - like it or hate it, the bad publicity of "naked pvp" in any bracket has hurt the game as a whole. Since the bug was reported on PTS months in advance and Bioware decided to go live with it regardless, it shows once again the quality of their development and their utter disregard for the community - why have a PTS if you don't listen to your testers? Those who cheer for Bioware right now will be gone in 3 months when they realize that FPS-style PVP in an MMO can never be as good as in an actual FPS game, lightsabers or not. Bioware will learn the hard way that they have catered to the wrong clientele. MMOs require progression-style PVP - no carrot (or one that's too small) and you alienate your player base. They will also learn the hard way that they cannot possibly hope to compete in the FPS market - they lack the expertise, the staffing, the funding, and are tied down to an engine that just doesn't suit itself for that. Meanwhile, I'll be at Planetside 2 - real PVP, real developers, and no FPS rejects who love Lolster 2.0 so much. (OP, I'm not calling you an FPS reject, I had some decent discussions with you about resolve)
  11. I agree with you, but do you remember what happened when Bioware revamped resolve the last time? They did the exact opposite of what the community asked for. They will do the same next time around.
  12. Ah CoD then - I was just going to ask you which FPS game you failed at before you came to SWTOR.
  13. Yes, yes. Like I said above, Bioware is trying FPS-style PVP in an MMO. It will fail, because they and you, don't understand the difference in the player bases.
  14. The OP, all his supporters and apparently Bioware too, don't understand the difference between FPS-style games and MMOs. Very different concepts and played by people with very different personalities! FPS games and other pure PVP games - balanced PVP MMOs - progressive PVP SWTOR is an MMO - people play it to steadily progress their toons LoL, HoN, StarCraft, Planetside, CoD, etc. are FPS-style - people play them for the combat, NOT progression. Once again, if you want FPS -style PVP in SWTOR, it will fail. All the games I've listed (and more) do FPS-style PVP much, much better than SWTOR ever will. SWTOR cannot possibly compete in that area! Bioware doesn't have the resources, all it has going for it is the Star Wars theme. But I know why many people support this and it has nothing to do with balance: They have the personality suited for FPS-style games, but not the skills to be competitive there. So they migrate to MMOs, because PVP in MMOs is much easier. Unfortunately, in MMOs they are forced to put time into progression which does not suit their personality. Bioware has given them the best of 2 worlds now! They can PVP against weak competition without the grind. Naturally, they are happy! Problem is, this is not sustainable. Traditional MMO players, which still make up the majority of the player base, will alienated by the lack of progression. The good PVPers will quickly realize that "light sabers" won't matter much if FPS-style PVP is so much better in FPS-style games! What will remain in SWTOR PVP are the most unskilled and the most casual.
  15. I completely agree. But now it is... If Bioware is trying to compete with FPS games, not only will they lose but they will also alienate the traditional MMO players. Oh well.
  16. Did you even read what I wrote or do you NOT know the difference between an MMO and true PVP games? You are promoting FPS style PVP, so why would I compare SWTOR with other MMOs? Right on - many of those games would have been on my list too! You (and apparently Bioware too) want SWTOR PVP to be like FPS PVP - no gear gap, no progression. Go play LoL or Dota, CoD , Halo or Planetside and compare it to PVP in SWTOR - day and night! I'm telling you that SWTOR PVP can NEVER compete in that area because it is inferior in almost all aspects compared to those games. All it has going for it is the Star Wars theme, and that's just not enough to carry it. If Bioware alienates the traditional MMO players who want progression, in favor of FPS players like yourself, SWTOR as whole will ultimately fail.
  17. I'm not going into the whole naked pvp issue - it's an absolute disgrace that should have never happened, especially not since Bioware was warned about it months in advance. How any company can go live with such a patch and not hotfix it immediately is beyond me. Essentially, they turned their game into the laughing stock of the internet. No matter what all the fanboys think, the bad publicity alone will cost them dearly! But back to the OP's post. Ok, even though SWTOR is an MMO, you want it to handle PVP like an FPS game does. I can name a dozen PVP games that do PVP better than SWTOR - better targeting, better class balance, fewer issues with fps, latency and engine, less bugs, active competitive play, constant PVP updates by responsive, competent developers, and so on. Compared to FPS and other PVP games, SWTOR's PVP is mediocre at best. So it is safe to assume that SWTOR PVP will never, ever make it on the professional gaming circuit. While I'm not a professional gamer, I play or played 3 of the games currently on the MLG - Lol, StarCraft II and Planetside 2. All great games and PVP in any of them is light-years (pardon the pun) ahead of SWTOR. If I want progression, including progression via PVP, I play an MMO like SWTOR. If I want competitive PVP without progression, I play anything but SWTOR! You just can't have both - so maybe it is you who should find a different game? It "saved this game" for FPS type players who want that style of PVP in an MMO. It spoiled the game for the traditional MMO players who are playing for progression. In an MMO, the latter is still the majority! Seriously, do you think SWTOR can ever compete with real PVP games, if all it has going for are Lightsabers?
  18. So did I. I don't like that Bioware changes the gear every few months, but that's progression in an MMO. If playing a week's worth of warzones is too much for you, well then you know which category you belong in.
  19. Gear-gap whiners fall into 3 categories: 1. The casual PVEer Plays a few warzones a month, never got recruit gear or doesn't feel like wearing it. He gets stomped mostly because of his lack of skill, but he will blame the "superior gear" of his opponents. Accepting responsibility for one's failures is an outdated concept, especially here in the US. As we can clearly see from naked PVP, he's as bad as ever - bolster or not. 2. The "ADHD" player (no offense to people really afflicted with that disorder) Feels entitled to get everything immediately! Does not care for progression, does not have any patience, and can't be bothered to work for gear. This type of player is usually found on FPS games, but every MMO has an influx of them. PVP in FPS games is generally much more competitive and many players just can't cut it there. Hence, they migrate to MMOs where PVP life is a lot easier. 3. The scoreboard junkie Enters a warzone in recruit gear and deathmatches. Equates skill with scoreboard numbers and, since his numbers are lower in recruit gear, he demands "equality". He is currently cheering the loudest for Biobolster, because he has gained the most from it. Good PVPers don't whine about a gear gap. They know that: 1) It only took a week of playing warzones regularly to become competitive. 2) Regardless of gear, you still can play for your team and wz objectives, if you have true skill.
  20. You are the guy who does 600K damage in Huttball. Leaping, choking and smashing in the middle, not even realizing that you hold the ball. I know your type - Huh objective? Scoreboard ftw! Naturally, you would support this bolster mess. Less chance to get exposed for your lack of real skills in objective warzones. I play a fully geared Arsenal Merc. Before 2.0, I would sometimes play him in his old recruit gear just for the challenge. Surprisingly, I could still play for the objective, I could still help my team, and I could still win warzones. Worst pvp class, worst gear, yet I still could do it. Could you? (That was a rhetorical question, we both know the answer, don't we?) And by the way, I'm not getting lit up at all. My scoreboard numbers are just fine, since that is "your" measure of skill. Now go back to Bioboot licking, you do that quite well...
  21. Naked PVP is an absolute disgrace, especially since Bioware was told about the problem months in advance. The OP is just Bioware bootlicker, don't take him too serious. In a different thread yesterday, he was bragging about his damage numbers thanks to bolster, so we can safely conclude that he's just another death-matching baddie who plays for the scoreboard:
  22. Would be nice if they finally admitted to that. At least it would cut back on the hypocrisy. "They are looking into it. Soon."
  23. Instead of the Biobolster 2.0 mess, this is what Bioware could have done: Bolster normalizes all stats, regardless of gear and even factors out the datacrons! All PVP gear becomes purely cosmetic, no stat gains whatsoever. This should completely satisfy all the gear-gap whiners. This should also be fine with PVP crowd who doesn't need/want progression in an MMO. For those who still desire progression, rewards earned from PVP could be applied to PVE. In other words, you could use wz/rwz comms to buy PVE gear (or just spend them on cosmetic PVP gear). This would allow PVPers who casually PVE to participate in OPS without an additional lengthy grind (they already spent a lot of time in warzones). That leaves those PVPers who never PVE, yet still want to progress in some way. My suggestion is to completely reset valor and titles. Everybody starts out fresh and on equal footing. Remove all Cartel valor buffs and make sure that valor is not exploited again. Unlike last time, if it is exploited again, punish the cheaters and remove everything that was gained by the exploits. (Instead of valor, I would suggest a personal ranking. But since it is unlikely that we will see cross-server warzones any time soon (if ever), due to the engine limitations, that is just not going to work for SWTOR.) Aside from the "World's best PVP developers", everyone else would be happy, no? *I have no illusions here: Bioware will not read this, will not comment or discuss it, and probably will implement the exact opposite.
  24. That is correct and that's a big reason why people were playing MMOs: With time and effort you progress your toons, sometimes over many years. But times are changing! Today, many players don't want to spend time or effort anymore. Hence, game companies have started to cater to their need of instant gratification by giving them what they demand. Of course, that leaves traditional MMO players without a reward and, ultimately, without a reason to play.
  25. I'm not an RPer. And you sound like you couldn't cut it in any skill based PVP game and that's why you are here, no?
