  1. This is exactly what I needed I think to get me going again. It has been about a year since I've written any fiction. I got stuck in a poetry craze and I've been trying to write some fan fiction for about a week but all my ideas seemed too hard. Too much like a monumental task so I felt like I was floating in space. So, thank you, I'm going to do my best to write with this challenge/prompt as my inspiration
  2. Can't people just rip the teal and purple lightsaber crystals out of the PvP lightsabers and sell them on the Nar Shadaa trade network? I can't have been the only person to have thought of this option and I'm pretty sure it's easily done...
  3. I may not agree with everything he's done but I'll still be sad to see him leave the universe he created before I was born. The universe that I grew up completely enthralled by. The universe that I want to contribute to in the future. If he ends that universe... well my life will quite frankly... suck a lot of ***.
  4. Maybe I should just stop coming onto the forums... it seems like everyone just wants to argue about nothing rather than have a philosophical debate and pit their wits against someone. Nobody even responded to the philosophical interpretation of lightsaber dueling that I listed
  5. In response to the Jawa whose name I forgot by the time I opened this reply. It was a kind of snarky thing to say because I wanted Bioware to take customer service more seriously with the ticket responses. I understand having an automated response, because let's face it, there are at least thousands of tickets submitted each day and a lot of them may be entirely meaningless. I just wish they'd do a better job. OP, I hope that they respond to you soon and with a response that involves you getting your toon back. Though if they don't, the good news is that character name is available again and you can remake your character. Just trying to be positive, even if dragging back through the game sucks.
  6. Telling you that you're wrong is not a personal attack. Which is what you devolved your argument to. What you highlighted in purple is what I quoted him for saying, and if you read my post more carefully you may notice that I told him what he said, what you highlighted in purple, was unwarranted. It also came after your personal attack telling him that he knew nothing of acting and directing. Which I also quoted in the same way. Your original response to the OP was not abrasive or offensive to you. That doesn't mean it wasn't abrasive or offensive. Not that I found it to be either.
  7. Really the answer for the OP is this. Lightsaber fights is like ego fights, imagine all of the jumping around in your brain you do while having an argument with someone about something that really doesn't matter in the long run. Now take all the jumping, dodging and weaving. You know, where you dodge their vicious philosophical attack to come back with your own to dissuade their point. Now take that argument and do it in a volcano. Normally you're awake, what, 16 hours a day, leaving 8 for sleeping? Try having that argument in a volcano that is basically freaking out (due to the fact that someone mashed in the controls that were meant to keep it stable) and it's only becoming more unstable as time goes on, in fact the whole factory inside the volcano is falling apart as you're having this argument. I imagine, that you'd start to sweat, you may begin to feel nervous and no longer safe due to the heat and all the energy your body is exerting just so that you can have that simple little argument which doesn't actually involve any movement. Imagine that within an hour or two of starting that argument you're starting to feel tired, beginning to wish for a glass of water, and it's getting harder to concentrate and turn aside your foes arguments. Now take the above, and imagine that you're jumping up and down, getting kicked, punched and swinging around an object with objectionable weight. (Since within the Star Wars community there are many different opinions on what the damn lightsaber actually ways and plenty of evidence to support in either direction, especially since Lucas is a human and he changes his mind about such things as often as humans do. To suit his own needs as a director, producer and writer.) Imagine how much more quickly you would get tired now that your body is not only having to manage its energy stores to keep you from cooking alive in an active volcano, but also trying even harder because now you're moving and jumping around while trading real blows as well as mental ones. You also don't have any water anywhere, so you're getting thirsty and your body is getting tired of trying to keep you alive when you're not even giving it a hand since you're too busy trading mental and physical blows with your opponent and so it's starting to shut down. That is how I imagine that lightsaber fight to be, a philosophical argument while in the middle of a volcano and doing aerobics. I know even in the shape that I'm in, having an argument (using the force, since the force is mostly mental capacity and willpower from my understanding) while running, jumping and fighting is hard. Hell, even in the shape I'm in I struggle to have a conversation while running three miles seriously, in the fall when temperatures are fairly regular. Throw me in a 100+ degree volcano and I can guarantee I'll have trouble thinking straight, let alone talking or even exercising. So OP, I hope I have answered your question to the utmost of your concern and you now have a better grasp as to why any lightsaber fight would be difficult. Let alone the lightsaber fight of all lightsaber fights between Anakin and Obi-Wan. They were in the middle of a volcano... that's not just a little hot. As for all the ego fighting going on in this thread, it's unnecessary. Cleux: You had no right to say, "You are not familiar with directing and things of that nature." You don't know the person on the other end and thus have no ability to gauge their understanding or involvement with acting and directing. Regardless of what you think would prove his understanding of acting and directing. Acting and directing is an art, and it's one that not everyone does in the same way. As far as I'm concerned, that is when you insulted his integrity and intelligence and it turned into an ego fight where you struck him as a person instead of combating his ideas with facts. Your accusation was a speculation and therefore not warranted in this discussion. Sai-To: You should have left it where it was. As soon as he insulted your intelligence you should have realized that Cleux had no interest in having a philosophical debate. You saying the following was uncalled for and again, you don't know anything about the person on the other side: "Unlike you, I don't take some random, unsubstantiated comments from the internet and misrepresent them on a forum. Instead of caring what is true, all you want at this point is to insist that your misinterpretation is true for what I can only imagine is reasons pertaining to ego." You both turned this into an emotional and ego inflated argument and I suggest you apologize to each other and back down from it. You both have opinions which are validated by what George Lucas has said. You both have interpreted the factual evidence in different ways. Another person having a different opinion than you is more than enough reason to debate, politely, what the other one believes. Debating does not result in tireless egotistical and emotionally driven attacks. As soon as you attack someone personally rather than their ideas it stops becoming a debate and becomes something else entirely, some call it an argument, I call it a pissing contest. Stop pissing all over each others feet and get back to what actually matters. Either that, or agree to disagree and leave it at that. EDIT: I apologize for the wall of text. I tend to stay quiet until I'm fully aware of the situation and have my head squarely on my shoulders before I open my mouth. So as to not make a donkey of myself.
  8. I'm not at the level cap yet because I'm taking my time playing through the game. I'm currently on Tattooine with my Jugg. When I'm in a group we dominate, every time. When I'm solo I have to use Quinn and then I dominate, every time. I skipped Nar Shadaa side quests entirely and went straight to Tattooine. Did no side quests on Tattooine, finished Tattooine at level 26 without side quests. Didn't have any problems at all, didn't even die once. Started doing side quests, haven't got to heroics yet, but still not having any problems. I understand that I'm not max level and that because of that my opinion automatically becomes null no matter how much experience in gaming I have or how much time I've spent with characters who are level 50. So I'm not even going to bother to tell you that I don't think we need a major buff, because of your experience you are going to believe we need a major buff regardless of what anyone else says. You feel limited in your gameplay and because of that you feel shorted. I'm sorry you feel that way. Maybe the Sith Warrior/Juggernaut could use a little upgrade in terms of normal attack damage, but other than that, I don't think anything is necessary at all. Note I said "maybe".
  9. Girls game. It's a well known fact. Just most try to hide the fact that they play because they don't want all the guys swarming all over them like they're a dog in heat. Which is what guys tend to do when there's a girl doing something that interests them to a great degree. I would know, I am a man and I have done such things in the past. To be honest, I didn't think about it until right this second but I opened this thread because it was a girl asking if other girls play. Instinctively I like to meet girls with interests similar to mine. In any case. Welcome to Star Wars, not sure how long you've been here. I hope through this thread and being more open you can find girls who also game so you feel less alone. I also hope that this thread doesn't end up with forty billion guys hitting on you, but I haven't read through all the posts and I can almost guarantee that's probably already happened
  10. You might be able to submit a ticket and let them know what happened. I won't guarantee anything, but usually when I do something in the game that I didn't mean to, bought a PvP loot box for a level 30 when I meant to click the 20 one, I submit a ticket and they are usually pretty good about responding and helping you. After all, customer support and service is about supporting the customer and serving them so that they will be happy and continue to consume your products. Like candy and a baby.
  11. Much love and a lack of shame for bumping this. I look forward to watching your LPs while I'm unable to play with my computer in the shop. Thank you for doing this. I know many people will watch and enjoy/hate and be brought into the game because of this.
  12. Clever way to submit a ticket unless you're joking. Nobody likes an empty fridge.
  13. I am HOPING that it's in the middle so that there's a story flashpoint between Black Talon/Esseles and Cademimu. However, I find that to be highly unlikely and it probably also a lvl 50 Flashpoint.
  14. I have had this issue, along with all the other graphical issues I've had, consistently on my Jedi Knight. I have not had this problem with any other class. For reference, I have the following classes: Jedi Sentinel Jedi Sage Gunslinger Mercenary Sith Sorceror Sith Marauder Sith Juggernaut I have three characters in there 20s and the rest are in their pre-teens or teens. Played around a lot with graphical settings, updating drivers, giving the computer a break and letting everything cool down. Within twenty minutes of playing my Jedi Knight, regardless of any settings or computer setup, the rays show up. So, I am thinking that for whatever reason, the Jedi Knight has a lot of visual bugs associated with it. Take an early example of miss tiny Jedi Master Shan. If somebody is playing a non-Jedi Knight character and having these issues please let me know as it will cause me to look further into this issue and hopefully figure out something concrete so that Bioware can fix it. Until then, I'd say that the most likely fix is to send a ticket to Bioware and stop playing your Jedi Knight and roll up another class. Plenty of fun to be had without the crazy light rays.
  15. I don't find that to be true. Sure, Hammer Station, Athiss and Mandalorian Raiders fit that style. There are a few story line flashpoints and other heroic missions with a large piece of story. You just have to get past the midpoint that they seemed to not care very much about in terms of story. Maybe because they figured most people would get so caught up in their class story that they wouldn't really do those flashpoints. In any case, there are more flashpoints than just the first one for each faction that offer a story driven adventure.
  16. I mostly send mail between my alts or for RP contact occasionally. Otherwise I don't really send mail, so I didn't know that. Learn something new everyday.
  17. It looks interesting, might be something to look forward to once I finish releveling up to 50 since I switched servers. Your question sent me to Youtube where I went through a whole bunch of videos and somehow ended up finding a musician that one of my friends actually knows in real life. Just thought I'd share that humor.
  18. I completely and wholeheartedly disagree with both your idea and your premise. I'm also not on the same server as you so it might be different if I was. The Republic seems to both outnumber and dominate PvP on Vrook Lamar. Of course that may not be the actual case, but it certainly seems that way since every time I get in to do PvP they seem to all have higher level characters, more people and they always win. It's been two weeks since I won a PvP match I think. Even if I only play like 2-4 matches a week.
  19. I'm on Vrook Lamar on the side of the Empire. I never found any RP on the Republic side. Not any. Seriously. I looked hard for it. It seems overrun on the Empire side though. Though that may be because of my play times or whatever. Although it seems odd that more RP would be going on from 10pm to 10am than other hours of the day. I'm also practically never online right now because I'm in the middle of helping a friend get ready for a move and I'm relying on his computer to play while trying to get mine fixed so I don't have to rely on his after he moves to Arizona. I know the feeling though.
  20. Good guidelines that I wholeheartedly agree with. Though I almost never use say myself because I have yet to have had the opportunity of RP with a large group of people and most of it ends up in Party or IC chat areas.
  21. Build your own computer from scratch, it will probably be the cheapest way to make something to run TOR. Also, just keep in mind whether you want it to run well or just run. It will change the price dramatically. You could easily build a computer that can run TOR on pretty good settings for about $700 I don't know if you could make one for $400 as I haven't looked at that price range. newegg.com will probably help you a lot.
  22. A lot of people have said a lot of good things comparing both games. I'm actually surprised this didn't turn into a flame war yet to be honest. As most people that I know are still PISSED that SWG devolved and was destroyed by what happened to it. As for my personal outlook: - Crafting: TOR could learn from SWG but it shouldn't change too much. I like being able to send out my companions when I'm not online, in fact I think they should expand on that using current technology to allow me to have them do stuff via a phone app or something. Sure it's not really rewarding you for effort at the moment as much as SWG was, and I think they should change some of that, but it's a different ballgame with a less open game like this. - Combat: TOR wins hands down. SWG had abysmal combat from my perspective. - Open World: That isn't how Bioware does games so I understand that it's not SWG open world. I really think we shouldn't even be comparing these two games because the two developing companies in charge have a whole different way of making games. - Multiplayer: SWG was a lot more fun in terms of player created stuff and player interaction (thus far) BUT you didn't need to group up for anything other than PvP, ever. I've ran into quite a few situations in TOR where I couldn't get further without grouping up. - Graphics: Let's just leave this one to what everyone already said. All in all, like I said when talking about Open World. My personal belief is that we shouldn't compare the games. Sure they're both MMOs and they're both in the Star Wars galaxy, but honestly they're entirely different. They don't have similar goals at all, as evidenced by their styles of gameplay. To me, TOR feels like a game trying to stay true to the Star Wars vision created by George in that it's about telling a story with dynamic characters, one that YOU are involved in now. It is YOUR dynamic story. SWG was all about playing in the sandbox that George created, it wasn't about being dynamic or story. It was about the sandbox. Just my 2c though.
  23. This is an online community and with every online community there will be bad apples. Don't let them spoil the game for you. I know that a lot of people have something against ignoring other players or having to ignore other players, but in my opinion it is the most viable thing you can do. I do it in real life all the time, so why not have the option in a game, there are some people that are just going to irritate you no matter what. If you're allowing those players to ruin this game for you, use /ignore and be done with allowing them to hurt you in such a meaningful way. Unless you're into torture and then you got a whole other slew of problems that even MY therapist couldn't help you with.
  24. I don't really have the same feeling. I don't know if the problem is server specific, but I'm playing on Vrook Lamar which seems is mostly people from the West Coast of the United States. I'm sure any of you who know about the west coast know how awesome west coasters are at everything social and diverse. Look at Seattle's band culture. California's culture in general is another great example. I'm just stroking West Coast ego though cause it never gets enough of that. In any case, I haven't ever really had a problem finding a group for anything. Granted I do most of my questing solo until I pick up a Heroic and then I ask in character if anyone else is venturing into said quest. I usually find a way to make it sound less like a LFG and more like I can't be the only one that the Empire relies on in times of need. Then occasionally I end up doing all the quests on the planet with 1-2 from that group, or at least a large portion of them. A big thing for me though, I LOVE having my companion around, so if it means I have to dismiss my companion there's a part of me that's less likely to group up. Vette says some pretty awesome stuff, as does Kira, and T7 and Qyzen Fess. Corso can be endearing and funny too. I mean, Bioware went through all this time and effort to make this large selection of pretty class unique companions and their personalities and I feel stinted when I can't use them. What I think would help group even more is make it so that you can't have more than 4 players in a group, but if you only have 3 players, you could have 3 companions. Since, from my perspective a companion is about 3/4 of a player's skill since they're pretty well self reliant just without all the min/maxing. I think I rant and ramble too much sometimes... I think it's not too hard to get into groups, but I wish that the community was more open to pairing up with people or that the grouping system allowed for more companions so that I didn't feel like my companion was only a place holder in a party. Especially since in the stories the companions are pretty well fleshed out, it feels like a shame to just leave them on my ship or send them off on crafting missions whenever I'm with other "Heroes"
  25. Are you sure it's not in the game? Are you so sure that the community has been spoiled by having their every whim satisfied for so long that they don't realize that games used to be made with things they didn't like and couldn't be remade? Are you so sure that this newest generation of gamers is the most selfish and those filled with the most entitlement issues?
