About when would I get the orange colored items because I'm just over level twenty and still haven't been able to upgrade anything.

Hey, I've got a couple of questions. One is for the life of me I can't get my armor/weapons to modify. I know how to modify then ctrl + right click but it just removes them from my character. My second one is, is there a way to make all my armor look the same so I don't look like a dummy. Thank you.
