  1. BioWare Austin... *sigh* ... just... *sigh*.
  2. 3 years later, object is still not flashing for the quest. Good thing I found this thread though!
  3. .................... .........but seriously, they're professionals and have plenty of reason to be proud. The game is a hit, and no matter when people say, it's a GREAT game already. It's not for me, sadly, but it's a very solid game for what it is. If you're an artist of any kind, you need thick skin because you're putting your work out there to be judged by the masses. It's easier said than done but that's just the truth.
  4. As is The Secret World. At least, you're able to switch out your abilities on the fly, so you could in theory decide to take a bunch of healing, tanking or dps abilities and thus be committed to a role. But you're never stuck in a role - you mix and match abilities as you see fit.
  5. Source: http://furiousfanboys.com/2012/01/tor-has-350k-concurrent-players-and-minimal-impact-on-wow/ Can't be right...right? "After only a couple weeks online, the news for The Old Republic has gone from good to bad. Following some drama over the weekend, news has come out that after one week on the UK charts the game dropped from #10 to #38. Now the analysts are stepping in and while they see a healthy MMO market, they don’t think that TOR is hurting WoW at all: Baird Equity estimates that the game has peak concurrent users of roughly 350,000 players. According to analysts at Cowen and Company the uptake of The Old Republic has had “minimal apparent impact” on Blizzard and Activision’s market-leading World of Warcraft. Hopefully things pick up and the concurrent player base grows, otherwise the game will become like Warhammer Online in a few months." Definition of CONCURRENT 1: operating or occurring at the same time 2a : running parallel b : convergent; specifically : meeting or intersecting in a point 3: acting in conjunction 4: exercised over the same matter or area by two different authorities <concurrent jurisdiction> Considering the game sold like hot-cakes and IS much better than anything currently out there (at least in my experience) ... 350k concurrently at PEAK times or what? who knows *shrug* I'm taking this with a grain of salt.
  6. Dude not funny :/ http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/86552-Jeff-Freeman-Former-SWG-Lead-Gameplay-Designer-Dies
  7. BioWare Co-Founders are the next: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reed_Hastings is what the OP is saying.
  8. LMAO I kinda love you right now. Just because their parent company is NCSoft doesn't mean they tell ArenaNet how to do their thing. ArenaNet operates on its own with NCSoft financially backing them.
  9. Take solace in knowing you are not alone. http://d37nnnqwv9amwr.cloudfront.net/entries/icons/original/000/004/077/Raisins_Face.jpg

  11. 1.Starwars movie is outdated, with imagination from the 70s *truly enough said Disagree. Imagination is what you make of it. 2. Lightsaber lvl 10, looks the same at lvl 50.. way to kill one of the most awesome things in mmorpg, actually getting sweet LOOKING weapons Disagree. A lightsaber is an iconic weapon. It doesn't need WoW shoulder pads. It doesn't need to be messed with much at all. Hilt variations exist and they're OK. Not nearly as creative or cool as most of the stuff you can find on http://www.randomsabers.com but OK. 3. The wow copy part, innovative is a lie. Somewhat agree. 4. gear looks awful 90% agree. 5. battlegrounds are boring, especially that huttball thingy *rottworms got the ball..err whatever Somewhat agree. 6. And finally the Voice Over Quests, specifically class quest, which are at best a B Movie.. so dont please tell me that its sooooooo exciting Disagree as this is one of the best parts of the game imho. Cheers.
  12. RON PAUL 2012! HAHA That's awesome cuz someone always posts it - that's the one that made me actually laugh out hehe
  13. Last update for the night: Themepark (Like what Star Wars The Old Republic is: A very structured, guided experience. PRO: Ensures player always knows what to do. CON: Restricts players' freedom) 3.4 1 Sandbox (Like what Star Wars Galaxies was. PRO: A vast amount of freedom allowing the player to shape their own experience. CON: Generally lacks direction and game content) 34.5 10 Hybrid (A merging of the two design philosophies. PRO: Best of both design philosophies. CON: Has yet to be successfully done) 62.1 18 Total responses: 29
  14. I've always found this a funny reply from any community member... I'm sure EA/BioWare feel the same :/
  15. It IS actually counting your vote - it just does that ad page for the survey service right after rather than giving you poll results unfortunately which is why I mentioned I'd be updating with results. I was going to wait til tomorrow for the first update but currently, this is it: Themepark (Like what Star Wars The Old Republic is: A very structured, guided experience. PRO: Ensures player always knows what to do. CON: Restricts players' freedom) 5.3% 1 Sandbox (Like what Star Wars Galaxies was. PRO: A vast amount of freedom allowing the player to shape their own experience. CON: Generally lacks direction and game content) 36.8% 7 Hybrid (A merging of the two design philosophies. PRO: Best of both design philosophies. CON: Has yet to be successfully done) 57.9% 11 --Thanks for voting
  16. Please do post if you voted, so others will see this thread. Thank you
  17. Out of morbid curiosity... IF you were the creative director and given the power to decide what direction you'd like to design a Star Wars MMORPG (Themepark, Sandbox, Hybrid) what would you go with? Vote here: http://freeonlinesurveys.com/rendersurvey.asp?sid=7bp7t3ontf2q1jm1012416 So everyone's clear: In a theme park MMO, you need only fit the prerequisites (at least character level and party composition, at times gear and competence) and then be in the right place at the right time (e.g. a raid instance); what you do happens in a loosely enforced order. Quests are presented to the player upon entering a game area for the first time, and the completion of quests leads to further quests. Your path through the game is a guided one. The learning curve, at least up to “end game raiding” is a shallow one. This game is on rails. In the sandbox, the players provide most of the content. There are NPCs, there are resources, there are areas, but the players are allowed (and, in fact, encouraged) to explore at their whim, and to interact with and engage one another. These games allow a tremendous amount of freedom, especially in contrast to the “game on rails” experience of the theme park MMO. The learning curve is very steep, as you often have a great many abilities and a vast number of places you might explore. The events are often unpredictable as these games are almost strictly PVP-oriented; anywhere you go, you might find yourself ganked. Hybrid would essentially be a marrying of the 'best of both philosophies', allowing the player both the adventures and guided experiences from a themepark MMO while also providing players with the freedoms of a sandbox experience where players can forge their own experience. I will of course share the results with everyone
  18. I think you're out of luck mate. Unfortunately, the surnames were wrapped into the LEGACY system in another brilliant design choice I totally embrace and agree with <sarcasm>
  19. The big issue has been the funding required to develop those mmo's WELL. Those MMO's never seem to get a big enough budget and enough time to really develop and thus they come out with a bunch of brilliant concepts but ultimately fall apart due to being half-baked.
  20. That is ALL you should be worried about. Have fun.
  21. I already did something like that and haven't been banned - but the fact that this IS in the TOS makes me wanna flip EA the bird.
