  1. This ! I played EQ2 for 5 years, Asherons Call for 4 years, already bored here . Pitiful dead walled in tiny "worlds". FPs are fun the first couple times, the class storys are interesting...till your finished. Feels like a single player game. And little stuff...no day/night, no weather, mobs just standing around in groups of 3 or 4...really ? 2012 and you can't do any better than that ? I actually feel for Bioware/EA, they are stuck. They simply cannot make major changes at this point and even something as straight forward as server mergers/transfers is taking FAR too long. I really wanted to like this game, to make it my new long term home but its just too "narrow" too confining too lifeless.
  2. Theres actually quite a few sandbox games other than EvE, several with ffa/full player looting PvP (if thats your thing). They tend to be niche games, but the total market is substantial and there are some new sandbox titles coming out. I still play an old quirky and oddly charming little game called "Ryzom" which has totally open character development, a spell/skill builder system, complex crafting system, a huge sandbox world, day/night, weather, seasons, really clever monster/fauna ai...oh and not only can I run the shadows on a crappy old PC but they look WAY better than the shadows in SWTOR. Theme park games are like...well a theme park, once you have "ridden the rides" your done. I have really enjoyed SWTOR the VO content/class stories are amazing but its more like a single player game that you play for a couple months and then move on from.
  3. Good read and some good ideas as well. I totally agree about all the immersion breaking things, my pet peve is places like "The Works" on Coruscant where you have guards fighting rogue droids...forever, always the same nothing ever changes...heck they keep shooting even when the droids have been killed by a player. I assume the "battle" is supposed to add to immersion but for me it totally breaks it. Its theme park with a vengance exactly like what you would see on a Disneyland ride.
  4. A very good point. If someone took hundreds of millions of dollars to start a new cell phone company and came out with a 10 lb shoebox sized hunk of plastic with rotary dialing no one would say "well give them time...its their first phone". Fairly or unfairly your expected to be competitive with whats on the market now.
  5. As said 2.4 million copies sold...1.3 million subs so 1.1 million people have said "no thanks" and the trend in subs is steeply down. I think its pretty safe to say nobody at BW is happy.
  6. Honestly they don't have time and they know it. Fair or unfair they have to stop the bleeding, entice people back, merge servers, add lots of lvl 50 content (both PvP and PvE), optimize the engine and fix all the dang bugs. The MMO market is a crowded space and you cannot push out a product and figure you have 6 months to a year to get it squared away. I have really enjoyed playing but this game is in serious trouble.
  7. Progression used to be leveling...you unlocked more/new skills, gained stats, got new gear, were able to explore new areas etc. Now that form of progression is just GONE..."the game starts at (50/80/90 whatever)" is the new mantra and people zoom through the traditional leveling process in days or at most weeks. I really think a leveless skill progression based game like EvE, Mortal Online, Darkfall etc is the way to go. The current "rush to level cap/grind tiers of gear" is a game design deadend (IMHO obviously).
  8. +1 ! I had the same feeling about Asherons call. The world was dangerous and HUGE, you could just wander anywhere you wanted and find new things, progression was leveling (and slowly!...before the 24/7 combat bots) not the "rush to cap/gear grind" that passes for "progression" we have now. I was thinking last evening about what it is that bothers me about this game and its the tiny static lifeless zones. Not talking about FP or Ops but the worlds you play in. No day/night no seasons, the same guards standing in the exact same spot shooting at the same mobs who are always in the same place shooting back exactly like a RL theme park ride. Its like there was NO effort put into the WORLD. Example, how hard would it have been to have the mobs fighting the guards on Coruscant's Migrent Merchents Guild area spawn somewhere and then move up and take positions to attack the guards. And how about that world boss "SD-0" why couldn't it follow a path around the zone killing mobs as well as players who aren't paying attention ? How much more fun would just that ONE lil area be if you had to keep your eyes open and dodge the boss or groups of mobs moving up to attack the guards. And the whole game is like that...every building you have to fight through is the same...a few rooms and hallways with regularly spaced groups of mobs. No suprises, nothing to discover, nothing to make you sweat or go "WOW!".
  9. Yes..."someday" is even more vague than "soon". That said its a much needed feature I just hope its useful for people playing together. In EQ2 it was purely for PLing...a lvl 90 mentored to say 60 was like 10x to 20x more powerful than the "real" lvl 60.
  10. <shrugs> RNG...I swear for like a week half the missions I got were bioanalysis and I bet I haven't gotten ONE Bio mission in the 2 weeks after that and I have had lots of UT and Treasure hunting missions. Its just random.
  11. Lots of good points...the planets are too small (note to Bioware...making a play area a maze doesn't disguise the fact that its a tiny walled in area) the level range is too narrow (Taris 16-20...seriously ?) No weather, no day/night, every place is the same...a few groups of mobs carefully spaced with a wanderer or 2 nothing really to explore or discover. The storyline is great, the Flashpoints and Ops are fun and for the most part well done but the "meat" of the game...the world(s) is badly lacking. To use Taris again...it doesnt feel like taris it feels like "Tarisland "C" ticket, no food or drink allowed, please keep your hands and arms inside at all times."
  12. It was already a pita to use...now its even more of a pita <facepalms>
  13. Outside...custom paint and when you add armor/missle launchers/blasters etc the ship changes to match. Inside...too many possibilities to list with everything from new "furniture" to pets, NPCs, more places where chars can actually sit (like a meeting room or a mess hall). The BH ship could have jail cells for captured targets...theres just a ton of things that could be done with ships. I would love to have a large landing field/dock whatever (would have to be instanced) where your ship could be parked with other folks ships it would feel much more realistic. Oh and let me JUST board my ship WITHOUT taking off...its soo immersion breaking to just ZOOM when I walk in the damn door.
  14. Lots of good points. The fast leveling makes it not really worth it to really gear up along the way (although I play alot of alts and actually avoid killing to try and slow my leveling down) Limited GTN space so people naturally post only the best sellers/most profitable items. My biggest isue with low/mid lvl crafting to sell is its just a royal PITA for at best iffy returns. Learn the schematics, farm the common mats, run missions for the blue and purple mats, RE the blue schematic, RE the purple schematic (and hope that doesnt take you 30 trys) maybe have to go farm more mats and run more missions, FINALLY craft a bunch of stuff and hope it sells. Theres LOTS easier ways to make credits.
  15. I just slice for the single use crafting missions for my other crafters. They also sell pretty well although I seem to get them less often than before 1.2 (could just be lousy luck hehe) and running the lockbox missions is a huge credit sink now.
  16. Weird I was running around on Taris and it seemed alot smoother and my CPU usage was quite modest (25%-30%) and thats on an older machine (Win XP, 2 core 2.66ghz, 4 gig ram, ati 4850 1gb) So many variables now components, operating systems, drivers etc etc...hard to tell why one setup is having problems and another isn't. Hope you can get it sorted !
  17. I couldn't agree more the whole genre is moribund.
  18. <just facepalms> You agreed to the terms when you purchased your sub.
  19. Yeah slicing got a HUGE nerf...maybe its not so noticable at 400 skill/max affection but my baby slicer (lvl 14, 300 slicing, around 2000 affection with the T7...who has (supposedly) a slicing crit bonus) hasn't had a single crit since the 1.2 patch. She used to get the crafting missions quite often, and supplied my other crafters with them.
  20. Not at all...no "QQ" I don't care for how this company is treating me as a customer. Feel free to disagree but I think this "promotion" is going to turn out to be a disaster for BW.
  21. In a free market if I don't care for how a company treats me as a customer I take my business elsewhere...and thats exactly what I have done. Shame I rather enjoyed the game.
  22. Since I am not valued I have chosen to take my business elsewhere...shame I rather liked the game.
  23. Totally absurd. I work full time and care for an elderly parent, I MIGHT get to play 10 hours a week and I enjoy playing alts and seeing what the different classes can do trying different crafting professions etc. I have very much enjoyed my time playing but I will NOT be treated like this.
  24. I didn't slice for money...I was happy to break even. I sliced for crafting missions for my other crafters to use and the drop rate for them was like 1/10 of what it was before 1.2. Maybe I was just having the worlds worst streak of luck...we'll see.
