    Ranked WZ, why?

don't listen to the idiots. The main gain for the rank and file PvPers (hopefully) is improved matchmaking for WZs. Imbalanced teams make for the least amount of fun for everyone. Cross server queues would also help since matchmaking would require a large pool of players to work well.
  2. Depends. At prime time on Wall of Light I can get into a WZ in about 2-3 minutes pre-50 and 1 minute or less on the lvl 50 tier. At really off times (8am or so on a weekday) it can take 8-10 minutes or more. D3 did slow the servers for a day but they're back to normal now. I guess D3 wasn't that awesome after all.
  3. Oh no! People are having their elite dps rotations interrupted by a smart player stunning them?! The inhumanity! The TEMERITY! What's that? People trying to kill you aren't just letting you just walk away and LOS them? Did that trooper harpoon you while you were ganking his pocket healer? What a tool. You should report that guy. That healer was yours to claim. How dare someone deny you what's rightfully yours! CLEVERNESS IS OP! Nerf quick thinking! Ban people for being resourceful! It's just not FAIR! Why have movement at all? Why not just make Warzones have all players rooted right on top of each other and everyone just spams buttons and the last man standing wins? That's what you want right? At least that way maybe people will never outsmart you and you won't need to come on to these forums and complain about it.
  4. There is an exploit of the IA/Smuggler cover mechanic that has this effect. If you learn to time the cover button just at the right time as you're getting knocked back you'll leap into cover instead of getting knocked back . I've seen you tube videos of this being done. It's pretty stupid. here is a link to a video: queue up to the 35 second mark to see the specific exploit I'm talking about.
  5. Ok that's it. I'm rolling a scoundrel tonight. I have to see this for myself. There has to be SOMETHING useful about the dps scoundrel.
  6. right on brother. If I had a nickel for every time some idiot IA or BH stood on the ledge by the friendly endzone to snipe the ball carrier, I could probably retire. I find it so weird when people complain about my Sniper camping the defending catwalks. They seem to think I'm just trying to score kills but nothing could be worse for my DPS than playing defense. It's almost all just CC with the occasional attempt to rapidly burn down the enemy ball carrier.
  7. Exactly this. My only 50 is a guardian and when I started out I specced as a tank and felt utterly worthless in PvP (Except maybe Huttball). I respecced into DPS in my 40s and finally felt like part of a team. Now in the post 1.2 world I went back to tank and I'm loving it. I actually feel like tanking in PvP has a purpose now. Unfortunately good, reliable tanks are rare so there's a lot of crying among healers. Give it time, people will realize the new paradigm soon enough and the class mix will balance out. Especially when they see PTs in warzones putting up 500k+ protection and getting 11 medals. Also tanking is really fun!
  8. My Sorcerer is only 24 so I won't pretend to know the class inside and out. the bubble mez I've seen before and that can be a real pain but it's only a couple of seconds. Snipers can also reduce their flashbang cd to 45 seconds with a couple of points. I'd like to point out that, out-of-the-box Flashbang is superior to whirlwind. the sniper doesn't need to "spec CC" for it to be good. It's a great tool when used well. (catching people running through doorways in the voidstar, catching the ball carrier and entourage on a fire trap in huttball, etc) sure if the Sorc wants to sink those points (0/17/17 to get all that CC) and get all the bells and whistles they can be amazing at CC. I'm not saying that Snipers are the best CC only that they have great tools and great variety of options. Whoa! testy aren't we? I agree with you 100% I don't see why you're getting so sassy. My whole point was to refute the idea that Sniper CC is worthless. all classes are great when properly built and utilized. Even merc has it's moments though mine is only 22. where did I say snipers should be nerfed? True. but they get the least direct upgrades to CC abilities. This is probably due to the facts you pointed out above. Honestly all 3 specs have great CC potential. Perception is likely that MM has the lowest overall though.
  9. I feel like maybe you're not using marksman traits properly. Assuming you're talking about PvP (which is what it sounds like)... Placement is important. Try to have a clear field of view while also being moderately far from the action as to avoid attention. Try to get a sense of the max range on your big dps abilities (Ambush, snipe, etc) . secondly, pick your targets carefully. Usually I try to hit healers as much as possible because they tend to be squishy and once I force them to heal themselves, they're basically out of the combat and I've done my job. Also I prefer targets that are already engaging other players since they're less likely to notice a sniper melting away their HP and the additional DPS from the other player makes a huge difference. third, your rotation should front load damage as much as possible. At 33, this is my build http://www.torhead.com/skill-calc#400rkrrdMso.1 I usually start with Laze, Explosive probe to set up the opening salvo. then open with ambush, snipe (instant cast with Snap Shot) and Followthrough. With the probe you're looking at between 4k and 6k damage iirc (depending on armor and other factors) . In most pre-50 WZs this will take someone down below 50% hp before they even turn around to see what happened. Then if they're solo I shatter shot, leg shot, adrenalin probe (if needed, usually is though) and snipe again followed by overload shot and maybe frag grenade for instant burst damage. If snipe crits I'll use ambush again with 1.5 sec cast. At that point the target should be low enough to for Takedown and your followthrough should come off cooldown before it's timer expires. If they're not dead hopefully I have the energy to DoT them as they run behind cover. All this takes about 10-15 seconds total but you're not even doing damage for the first 5 seconds. All that poor Jedi Sage notices is the Ambush cross-hair animation (explosive probe isn't that obvious in the heat of combat especially when you're watching health bars) then WHAM WHAM WHAM half their health just got evaporated in 3 quick shots. Good players will turn to LOS you (assuming they can spot where you are) and they're rooted. They try to heal themselves... Trauma debuff. By then the second snipe, OS and probably Takedown have hit them and they usually just panic. This whole rotation doesn't work every time but it scares the bejeezus out of players when you do that triple attack. and probe. Sometimes you get lucky and they just panic. Worst case they LOS you and you have to depend on your teammates to clean up. Sometimes I'll hold laze until the second snipe if I'm sure they'll still be in my LOS by then. That will allow me a 1.5 second Ambush after the critted snipe. Sometimes you get lucky and that happens anyway.
  10. This is truth. Nevermind that our mezz is probably the best in the game. Instant cast with a small AoE (unlike the sorc/sage one that's single target and has a long cast time) Also our root is amazing. Fast cd and LONG range. Makes for amazing defense in Huttball. yeah that's me behind the ball carrier mezzing, stunning and rooting every defending player on the way into the end zone. Snipers (even marksman specced) have a bucket full of CC and utilities. An intelligent and resourceful sniper can be a real pain to disable in some WZs. Melee classes in particular can have a real hard time getting to swing on a sniper before getting burst DPSed to death. Add Cybertech nades and you are like CC Batman. Of course when you're CCing you're not DPSing so your stats will reflect that. Hopefully one or two people on your team take notice of your utility and throw an MVP your way.
  11. I agree with the people that have said that a ranking or matchmaking system will help make things better for everyone. I have had good and bad runs in PvP at 50 AND at 1-49. My 50 only has 2 pieces of BM gear anyway. I really don't think the gear makes THAT much of a difference in the end. Some people are just BAD at PvP. It would be to everyone's benefit if people were matched against others at the same skill level. I for one hate getting my face rolled in warzones. I find rolling over weak opposition very boring. The best games are those that are close or where the tables turn. Sure Premades are tough but only because good players tend to group up into premades.
  12. The reason WoW (and other established MMOs) have so much more divergent content is that they've been around for several years and constantly adding content. It's unrealistic to expect BW to have 7+ years of developed content at launch. Also they way they handle story quests kinda limits how characters progress. They could have switched up the order of the planets for each class but then everywhere you go, you'd only see your class. Seems to break the immersion a bit no? Take a deep breath and relax. Unsub and take a break if you need. in a year there will be tons more content available to you. Just relax.
  13. I'm not so much annoyed by people not passing as I am by people failing to support the ball carrier in general. Would it really hurt your ego so much to throw a heal or put a bubble on the guy with the ball? Instead people run around looking for easy targets to gank or sometimes I see people that just sit there near the middle waiting for the ball to respawn when I am still carrying it! I have a 45 Guardian that is tough as hell. When I get the ball I will tend to run for the goal only stopping to dump off to a good target of opportunity. No I will not pass behind me. It's hard enough to even look back there when 5-8 enemies are spamming DPS on you. No I will not pass to a smuggler 3 feet in front of me with only half a health bar. I'd rather just ground the ball If is see an ally in good position or if I'm in real danger of getting killed in the next 5-10 seconds I'll gladly throw that ball. Otherwise I'm usually yelling at my screen for someone to throw a flashbang or a heal or a bubble while I burn through my defensive CDs trying to move the ball downfield. When I play my sniper I follow the ball carrier. Enemies will often stupidly clump around the BC. I sometimes throw a flashbang into the crowd and manage to catch at least a couple of enemies with their CC breaker on cooldown. That one single button click often adds 5+ seconds to the BCs life. Especially if I catch the enemy on or near an incinerator. One well timed AoE knockback can break a BC free for the score. One well targeted mez can literally guarantee scoring. Yet noone cares. They just want you to throw the ball to them so they can be the hero. In the meantime, the BCs options, as well as our chances of scoring will be greatly enhanced if my team would just throw some heals/buffs/CC on the guy with the ball. It's not rocket science.
  14. exactly this! I come onto the forums here whenever I need a good laugh.
  15. I'll see that level 1 sprint and raise you having Kira as my companion for for my Vanguard.
