  1. Having just referred a friend, here's the link to the info on it. Note that it says that new accounts are different than people who were previously subscribers. http://www.swtor.com/info/friends For me, I simply used a link someone gave me, logged into my account, confirmed that I did indeed want to use that referral, and everything worked fine. However, I was previously a subscriber.
  2. I get this on a regular basis with multiple companions. Unfortunately, the only quick fix I have found is to dismiss the companion and summon them again. Since armor is only about appearance, it won't lower the companion stats if the game is ignoring their armor. That flashing red symbol is REALLY annoying though.
  3. If what you are trying to do is bind Shift with another key, this works. I have my first hotbar set up for Shift-1, Shift-2, et cetera. If it isn't working for you, some steps you could try based on my experience with other software is: Hold the Shift key a full second before pressing the number of letter. Try the other Shift key on the keyboard. Try a different keyboard, if you have one. Try running any keyboard software you have as Administrator. (If using Windows.)
  4. People have been listing white crafting materials on the marketplace since before SWTOR even existed. For example, I made a small but steady income when I first started playing WoW buying a particular crafting mat from a vendor which was only sold in capitals, then selling it on the auction house to people who didn't want to travel or didn't know where to buy it. Granted, I'd never mark it up to 10x the base price or something, but I also think that shopping around and doing a little research is part of how the market should work, just like shopping does in real life.
  5. I would love to see this, both because I would be able to have weapons specific to my outfits, but also because I've had to give up on really cool looking weapons because their stats sucked.
  6. I agree that a "sort by quality" feature needs to be implemented. Frankly, a variety of sort features would be excellent. I think their lack of implementation shows that whomever designed this section of the UI either doesn't actually work with crafting materials or was overruled by some manager who has never worked with crafting materials. Sort by quantity: Because it helps a lot for deciding what you may want to sell on the market because you have a ton. Sort by name: When you're looking for something, but don't remember the category. Close all categories: Trying to get to particular categories is a chore now. Open all categories: Might as well have a reverse of above. I'd also love to see a favorites list, but that is in part because I have only certain materials I tend to sell on the market and the current setup makes doing this very difficult. I am probably going to have to go back to keeping those materials in my legacy vault as while this new feature wonderfully saves me a ton of space, it makes selling materials on the market awful.
  7. Another post in support. Not only does it make my stronghold look awful, something about the flash is setting off my migraines in a way that combat and other parts of SWTOR do not.
  8. Is there a good list of the actors who voices the various playable characters out there? I'm mainly curious about how many different voices we can possibly have for our characters. Does each class have one male/female voice or is it by race somehow? I've tried flipping between various combinations on the character creation screen and while I can sometimes hear which ones are different, sometimes I cannot tell for sure if there is a difference between some classes or races.
  9. You can open a ticket in game. It won't get rid of the mission, but it may put you on a list for when they get around to fixing this. (I've got seven stuck missions on report right now.) There's also a thread where they've asked that we post about stuck missions. It's up to 16 pages now. The thread is listed below. The format to put your information in was posted by BioWare Customer Service in a post near the top of page two. http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=39754
  10. I vote for Cybertech as well. In addition to what's mentioned above, you can also craft upgrades for spaceships if you want to run space missions on your various alts. I've tried most of the crafting skills on various alts, and I find Cybertech so far to be of the most use to me for gear. As for the droids the previous poster mentioned: In addition to the ship droid everyone gets, there's at least one class that has a droid companion (Jedi Knight). I've seen a number of people using their ship droid as a healer, so parts that help that might sell well.
  11. But if you don't get the companion, you miss out on all those chances to insult them in later conversations. When storyline conversations happen on board your ships, all of your companions can be part of the conversation. I despite Gault on my Bounty Hunter. I've threatened to shove him out of an airlock in one conversation and told him I hoped he'd die in another. Oddly, his affection is still above zero because he likes some of my other conversational choices in the storyline. It was negative for a while when I first got him because of the air lock comment.
  12. You can always just use CST as that is the timezone the maintenance periods are listed in. (Austin is in that timezone.) Everyone probably either knows or can figure out quickly what their timezone is compared to CST. (The notices on maintenance show the times in various timezones, so that should help them figure it out.) Or find out what timezone most of your people are in and use that, letting everyone else convert as needed.
  13. That I don't have to keep paying to yank that pre-order bonus crystal out of weapons. There's a vendor on the fleet that will sell you as many as you want for 10 credits each (if you pre-ordered).
  14. You can find your UI settings like font size, chat settings, and minimap zoom at: C:\Users\NAME\AppData\Local\SWTOR\swtor\settings Where "NAME" is the name you're logged in under. Keybindings are saved server side, so you have to set them manually for every single character. I feel your pain because I too have quite a few characters. Still, at least some of the settings copy over. Two things to help: 1) The .ini file starts with a number. I have characters on two different servers and each server has its own number. When copying data from one character to another, make sure you get the number correct. 2) In order to get the game to see a new .ini file, I always have had to exit to desktop, copy over changes, and then start the game again.
  15. The founder thing kicks in when your initial free 30 day for buying the game run out. So, if you just started it yesterday, you've got 29 more days to go. Anyone who was here for opening day is past that 30 days already, so they're the ones you're seeing with founder titles already.
  16. I also have a Razor Nostromo. I find it a must for any game like MMOs where there are more keys than I can easily reach on the keyboard with one hand. (So, basically anything with lots of abilities.) It's not just the base programmable keys that are the thing. You also have eight keymap setups. You can switch between them various ways, including being able to say, "as long as this is pressed, you're in keymap x, otherwise keymap y." In another game, I had the four primary directions on the thumb pad set to four different keymaps (plus a fifth as default), with 16 programmable keys in every one (plus the wheel next to the keypad, which like a mouse wheel has forward, back, and click). In Star Wars, I use the two thumb-type buttons to switch keymaps, just to try something different. I recommend buying it someplace local where you can return it if you don't like it. It's not cheap, but it's well worth the $75 or so I paid for it.
  17. If you're using Vista, they should be showing up in: C:\Users\[NAME]\Documents\Star Wars - The Old Republic\Screenshots Where [NAME] is your login name. If they are not there, check to see if they're being saved under a different user. You can always search your entire hard drive for files starting with "Screenshot_201" as the files are saved by date and time with year first. It's possible that you have something preventing the files from saving, such as an overzealous antivirus program.
  18. The only tip I can suggest is: Run every single mission you can in a large group. The larger the group, the more social points you get.
  19. I have had a problem in the past with certain games where the game did not consistently recognize "shift" or "control" from anything other than the keyboard unless I ran the game software as Administrator in Windows. Right-click your icon to launch Star Wars, choose "Properties", go to "Shortcut" tab, hit the "Advanced" button, check "Run As Administrator". (That's for Vista or Windows 7, the layout may differ in earlier versions.) You may also need to look into running the software for your mouse that simulates the key press to be run as administrator also.
  20. You are probably underestimating the electronics in your room. Your computer speakers are electromagnets. The computer itself is full of electronics. Certain monitors are notorious for causing problems with electronics around them. A device as simple as an electronic pencil sharpener can cause severe problems. We had to move ours away from the computer because it made the monitor look like an acid trip every time it was used. You probably also have a cell phone (which transmits stuff) and a cell phone charger. Most people have digital clocks, which are electronics. Heck, wiring and/or light fixtures can cause interference. Part of what I do for a living involves working with recordings made in a variety of environments. Most people would be amazed at the things which can ruin the quality of a recording, especially with a typical microphone (as opposed to professional grade, the kind of things news crews or movie crews use).
  21. Unfortunately, Bioware has not given us UI scale adjustments as of yet. There is a workaround on the alien subtitles. Since those can be displayed in a chat window and you can increase that font up to 18, I read all the alien subtitle text there instead of at the bottom of the screen. It's only a small part of the problem, but at least it helps. You may have luck with lowering your screen resolution. That did not help me with Star Wars, but it has helped me with other games in the past. (It causes the game to think your monitor is smaller than it is, so when it's displayed in your monitor the text can be easier to read. Unfortunately depending on your setup, it can also make the text less sharp.)
  22. If you want an actual "resume" of your companions, try Torhead. They seem to have all the companions each class gets listed with the full Codex information. The companions come over time, so you may have some levels to go before you get your next companion.
  23. Actually, that apostrophe can be a killer. I can currently add all of my alts on one server into each other's friends list, except for the one name that has an apostrophe. That one cannot be added to any of my other alts. (Nor could I send mail to him until a recent patch. Items or not, it all just vanished into space.)
  24. I had a similar problem with another MMO. I ended up having to run the MMO as Administrator as well. For some reason, the game wouldn't recognize the key I was holding down as being the shift key until I did that.
  25. Depending on the quality of the microphone you're using, cranking up the microphone itself can start picking up the hum from your fans, your air conditioning/heater, or any number of sounds in the room. With a low quality microphone, you could be getting white noise generated by the microphone itself or an interaction between its electronics and the electronics of other gear in the immediate area. If you can adjust your transmission volume on Teamspeak, I would do it there. If you can set the microphone to a lower, clear level and them let Teamspeak increase the volume electronically, you're likely to get a cleaner sound. You may also have software with your system that can do the same thing. Your software may also be able to filter out interference. However, both of those options are far less likely unless you have higher end software/hardware, which most gamers do not. (It's more likely to be found in business software systems than the "hobby" level we use.) A better microphone can also help. If you've ever had to call into support at various companies you probably know that sometimes you can hear the entire call center, sometimes it sounds like they're sitting alone in the box. Better hardware handles the extraneous noise. You can also try moving your microphone. It's possible that it's getting blown on by a vent or is sitting in just the right place to pick up interference. If you've got a headset microphone, try moving yourself a foot or so in different directions and see if that clears things up. Also make sure the noise isn't you breathing or something.... some headset microphones sit too close to the mouth and you can pick up stuff like that.
