  1. So are all the East Coast PVP servers going to be moved to the Fatman? It sure seems that way. I for one am hoping not -- that server still hits full some nights. I guess I kind of assumed that the devs would pick the other 1-5 medium pop servers and move people to those. That way we still have healthy populations but the lag issues some people experience (I haven't so far) and the problem of long queue times wouldn't be as big a factor. If it's true that the lowest of the low pop servers aren't the ones being moved yet (not that I have a way to know this, but that's what people's comments suggest) then I'm even more worried that we will have a new problem: an extremely over-crowded server with three or four servers still holding their own at medium. I guess I'm just surprised anyone was moved to the Fatman (happy for those who get to combine their legacies though)
  2. For me at least, it isn't waiting four more days. I could wait four more weeks if needed (wouldn't like it much, but I like the game and would do it). I do have a problem with the decision to hold off the FAQ until the day transfers start. I for one like to be able to read information at least a day before I'm going to make a decision on how to proceed (i.e. transfer to new server now, wait for paid transfer, etc.). I don't know, the way they are handling this feels rushed to me. Not in the sense of how long it has taken overall, but more in the sense of a college student who knows for 5 months they have an exam in June, but waits until the last night to cram for the test.
  3. This is not always the case; in fact, there have been several situations where priority is given to at the very least active subscriptions. DCUO just last year gave priority to time logged into the game, which tended to mean the vast majority of people kept their main's name (not necessarily alts of course) and it went over fairly well. Of course, their were people complaining about losing their name after the game went F2P and they came back after not logging in since the first month, but it actually got very little complaints when initially done.
  4. Appreciate the info, do you have any info if we will be able to do a name check to see if we can keep our character's name before committing to a new server? Also, I know this probably isn't your call, but is there any way we can get the Transfer FAQ earlier than the day transfers start. Seems a little short notice. Tomorrow would be highly desired, so people have the weekend to digest information, but even Monday would be better than nothing.
  5. Original poster...I feel your pain. I haven't had the heart to try and create my character's name on other servers b/c I fear the results. I don't think the name I picked is super common so there is a chance it won't be taken. I do hope that when we decide to transfer we will at least know beforehand if the server we are transferring to has a character with our preferred name: I'd wait for paid transfers if I had to in order to keep my name. I know this will be just seen as QQ, but if I can't keep the name my main has had for six months (I care less about the alt) then I will unsub. I don't expect Bioware to change their policy for me and I don't think my unsubbing would be some great loss for the game as a whole, but none the less the issue to me is important enough that I wouldn't be able to play anymore. My character's name is her name and changing the spelling or adding weird characters doesn't fix it for me. I know petty and silly to most, but a big deal to me. If I do lose my name, I will miss the game, but sadly I'd miss the name more.
  6. LOL I'll be honest I'm thinking of reserving my character name on as many servers as I can. The problem is I won't know where my server will be sent (assuming it is sent, as it's not the least active or most active out there) and if given the option I'd like to go where my server goes, because I like the people on it and I like my guild. I'm crossing my fingers that my server will be a destination server and it won't affect me at all, but I kind of doubt it.
  7. I'm happy transfers are coming, but I have one major concer that I would appreciate a dev or community manager response on: Will we be able to see if another player on our destination server has our character's name before we make the final decision to transfer? Note: This refers to a character's individual name, not the legacy name, which I understand we will have to change when we move regardless of if anyone has it and that is fine. I personally would like to know beforehand if I have to change my character's name as this would ultimately effect whether I choose to move now or wait for paid transfers. As petty as it may be, my character name is hugely important to me and if I was forced to change it without advance knowledge (i.e. learning I must change upon logging into my new server and having a message pop up saying change your name now) I would be very upset. That is the one thing that would make me unsubscribe, as much as I wouldn't want to (yes I realize it's petty, but it's how I feel). I do NOT mean this paragraph to be seen as a poor attempt at blackmail, because I know the process is set in stone at this point. I just would like to know in advance if I will have to gamble on moving to a new server and losing my name or if I will at least get the courtesy of knowing before I make the decision. ***I apologize if this has already been answered...I checked the dev tracker and did a scan of this thread, but it is too long to read in its entirety.*** P.S. I know it is too late to change the transfer process...But I honestly would have preferred that decisions about who gets a character name be handled like DCUO did things last year, where: 1) Priority went to active subscriptions (i.e. someone who pays money to subscribe got priority over an inactive sub, DCUO was P2P at the time) 2) Priority went to active in-game players (i.e. if you had logged in in the last 30 days) 3) If both of the above conditions were met for 2 people with the same name, the person who had more active logged in time got to keep the name (this tended to ensure that people at least kept their mains' name). Ultimately, I just think it is unfair that I could lose my character name to someone who hasn't played since January just because of which server I rolled on in early access (which was chosen for me based on registering a guild early).
  8. The reason game companies don't like to do server mergers isn't because they want to charge for paid character transfers (though I'm sure that is an added bonus) because a large majority of people will take the free transfer to the server the are directed. The reason they don't like server mergers is because it looks terrible to investors and tends to make stock numbers drop (though if investors were realistic about the situation most new games require server mergers of some sort after the first few month rush). Character transfers is much more palatable and easier to spin. To be honest if the rumor about "super servers" is true, it will essentially be server mergers under the guise of "Character Transfers."
  9. I appreciate you taking the time to respond to my concerns I like the Q&A being weekly, but if bi-weekly does TRULY mean the answers will be more in depth that wouldn't be a bad thing. Maybe on the Q&A off-weeks we could get a little blurb from a different developer talking about what they are looking forward to, noticing on the forums, interested in doing etc.
  10. I'm disappointed there will be no Q&A next week...I also couldn't tell from the post if the switch to once every two-weeks is permanent or just for this next time. I hope it isn't permanent
  11. A second week of (for the most part) well chosen and well answered questions. I glad some PVP questions were answered for those asking about them last week. We also got some story-related and PVE questions answered. The crafting/GTN questions were answered in abundance. The information was overall useful and I'm glad to see they are actively trying to improve the economy (it definitely needs some love). I also really appreciate the SWTOR dev team taking the time to answer more than the promised 10 questions this week If I had one complaint: it would be that at least for a few weeks, I'd like to see the Q&A focus less on crafting mechanics and more on PVP/PVE mechanics. Again, overall I really think the quality of the Q&A is improving and I love seeing that.
  12. I believe that awhile back someone did some sort of test of the two and determined that Ashara (in the Exsanguination stance) has the highest damage potential at least when fighting a single target. Andronikos, however, is by far the better companion for doing AOE damage. I typically use Andy on trash mobs (for the speed at which he kills them) and Ashara for bosses or multiple elites. I guess it really just depends on your playstyle and if you prefer an AOE damage dealer or a single target DD.
  13. Quests do not give conversation points for Ashara until Hoth; they are not coded in as far as I can tell. Very few (if any) companion conversation points are given on Quesh at all (as it was a late addition planet to the game development wise, and it seems they forgot to go back and add most of them). As a general rule a companion will NOT start giving affection points in conversations until the planet after the one you get them on. There may be some exceptions to this, but I have yet to see one.
  14. This Q&A was a big improvement over the last few weeks (especially the new info on character transfers). Keep up the Q&As moving in this direction BW...I love it when I feel I actually learn something from the Q&A.
