  1. Here is what I sent to BW when I hit my unsubscribe button today. The reason I played beta, early launch, pre ordered, and played for about a month was because this new game looked interesting and I was looking for something to supplement WoW. It came to my attention during my month of live play that not only did SWToR not feature arenas, but that at the time arenas were a feature that the developers did NOT want to include. I then left because arenas are my favorite thing to do in MMOs. I tried the game again in the patch where arenas were introduced, and personally found the class balance (especially operatives being the only viable healers) to be incredibly frustrating . Perhaps even more frustrating than the class imbalance was bolster. I will never understand why pvp specific gear, in pvp specific scenarios, needed to be made more powerful. My personal solution would be to make ALL non current pvp gear present as rating "1000". Make low tier current gear completely unchanged, at say 1250, and high tiered gear obviously unchanged at 1500. In no way would anybody be punished for coming into random instanced pvp under geared, thereby promoting continued participation in the form of alts and continuing to promote participation from players that are new to MMOs or new to PvP. Dropping gear to a base score instead of inflating to a high score would also eliminate things like pre-max level questing items being best in slot. Furthermore, I did not do enough community research before I came back to this game, and so did not realize that the realm I selected (bastion) while being a pvp realm, was not what I was looking for. All the talent, heck even all the people that even bothered queueing, was concentrated in POT5 and your developers (as of about 2 months ago, the last time I visited this website or logged in) were saying that they couldn't/wouldn't implement cross realm technology. Sounds familiar. On a positive note I really do enjoy the SWTOR story, and the graphics are truly refreshing after playing cartoony games like WoW. TL;DR I'm tired of paying $30 a month for WoW and ToR, and wow wins because its less ****ed up than tor is.
  2. I know that myself and 3 friends played this game for beta thru about a month after launch, then quit when the devs said they planned on never implementing arenas. Who would have guessed, wow warriors pissed us off so much that we started looking elsewhere and found out that swtor just came out with arenas a couple weeks ago. So aside from regstars, theres at least one more team building up right now.
  3. Good Sir/Ma'am, I'm not insulted at all. Regarding your first paragraph, you could be doing everything right, but there may be more combat going on at objectives other than the one you're at. If you're at a less contested area your prot numbers will suffer, no matter how actively you play or how "good" you are. Also, I'm not that familiar with tanks (I heal and dps). If you taunt somebody doing AOE, is your taunt cancelled b/c they are in fact hitting you? Maybe the person you taunted was playing a class that puts out tons of damage, but that particular player wasn't very good, or even got cc'd after you taunted. Perhaps the dps you play against notices they were taunted and switched to you, so through no fault of your own your numbers go down. If you place guard by raid frames the character you just guarded might be outside the 15 yard limit, or might not realize they were guarded and run away from you. Lots of things contribute to both you not knowing your numbers and numbers being high or low at end of match, none of them marking you as a bad. Next time you notice your team losing, heres some things to check. Your area map: are players filtering back to the fighting one at a time? Are there lone players or very small groups fighting in clearly non objective based areas? these can indicate players that can have very high stats and terrible team value. Perhaps theres a group of 4 or 5 that will ONLY attack one objective, never switching to another target. You might notice that this group does very well stat wise, and blames the loss on the remainder of the team who was busy defending and/or attempting to capture less heavily defended objectives. Protip: the definition of stupidity is trying the same thing twice and expecting a different result the third time. Going back to the same place time and time again doesnt make you a tenacious underdog, it makes you an uncreative player who can't adjust strategy to win. With that, I apologize for and am done derailing your thread. GLHF, keep it real bro/sis.
  4. While I'm not a pro, I am reasonably experienced at ranked PvP in MMOs. It could be that their stats are low because they saw early on that the team was composed of novice players, or experienced players that weren't interested in winning (just messing around), or any other number of things based on behavior early in the match. It is also worth noting that scoreboard stats at the end of the match are not a very good metric for determining the worth of the player for that match. They typically do not show dispels, cc used, cc used effectively (did you cc a healer or tank while your team focused a target, or did you mes the kill target just to have it broke by everybody else on your team?), being part of the defensive effort, breaking off from your super dps/hps for a global or 2 to do some low damage aoe dps to ensure a node is not ninja-capped, or anything else like that. End of match scoreboards in fact OFTEN promote poor team play, to bolster dps and hps or even prot numbers many players will engage in combat in areas of no significance on the way to an objective to keep their numbers high, sacrificing strategic playing to bump their egos. Its often been my experience that the players that contribute most to team victory have fairly mediocre end of match statistics, often because they are busy doing things that won't be noted end of match. I'm not trying to insult you fungihoujo, but every time I see charts and numbers brought up in discussion about the (un)worthiness of a player in PvP it bothers me. This time I felt like spending a moment to shed some light on the topic. I'm not a self proclaimed pro, and hopefully this is one of the smarter things you guys have read. That being said, have a great evening all.
  5. I'll just add to the WoW comparisons to make this even more crushing for the OP. Druids: Stealth has been toned down a little bit with the displacer beast changes, but regardless if they get out of combat they can stealth at any time. Priests: 6 second stealth, with the ability to pre-place sprint buffs so that they can be stealthed on command, in combat, and move at nearly 200% speed. Oh yeah, every 30 seconds. Shaman: with symbiosis ability from a druid can stealth with the same requirements as a druid (out of combat). This leaves Monks and Paladins with no stealth. 60% of the healers in the most successful MMO at the moment have stealth natively, or the option for it with common compositions. Can we please get some clarification on what these other games are with non stealthing healers?
  6. Disclaimer: I was browsing the forums yesterday and noticed the hostility towards The Other Game (hereafter referred to as TOG) but because while I did play EQ1 and some others, the majority of my time was spent with TOG and it's the easiest way for me to make intelligent comparisons and thus get good feedback. If this offends you, I do sincerely apologize. Some Background: Myself and 3 friends re-subbed last night after playing casually from beta to about a month after launch of SWTOR. We all mainly play arenas in TOG (1500-1800 mmr, nothing special) as the favorite way to relax after work, and the news that SWTOR was coming out with arenas is the major consideration for coming back. Well, that and balance issues that just don't make the game fun for us (specific classes, the insta-cc and dr system that can make your character out of your control for more time than in your control etc etc lots of qq) Here comes the part with all the questions. I've noticed that tanks have a very viable role in PvP with guard, taunt and other mechanics. In rated 4 mans are they “necessary”? Or is 3 dd 1 healer, 2 dd 2 healer w/e etc common and playable at non leet levels? I personally have had a lot of fun playing disc/holy priest, frost/fire mage and lately moonkin. What would you guys recommend play style wise, am I looking at sorc, or do you think that IA and BH (we are all empire players) would have potential for the TOG styles that I mentioned earlier? Have I managed to completely miss a guide that gives general play style guidelines for the 6 trees available to every class, and if so would somebody mind linking it? Hybrids: Are you generally expected to make as much use of the tanking/healing as you do the dd aspect, or are hybrids generally treated as dd that can help out in a pinch? The reason for me asking all these questions is b/c I don't have a character over 25, and don't really want to invest a lot of time into a character I won't like a whole lot at end game, this is a problem b/c with any other game I've played classes don't feel the same low level as they do at high level. Thank you in advance for your help folks, hopefully I'll see some of you in a couple weeks and you can have some fun stomping me and my friends while we learn to star wars TLDR, wow trash asking for some game translation, help a brother out plz.
