  1. Not true rancid. Go to this thread and look at the character stat sheets when maxed out with tank gear and you will see you are wrong. http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=616779
  2. The point of sending out companions isn't to get credit boxes when you send them on those missions, but instead to get crafting missions. Will you lose some money trying to get them? In a sense, yes. That is the credit return on the boxes themselves is a loss, but it's not like you are losing 3k per mission. I was losing on average about 800 credits for each mission that didn't return a crafting mission. When I did get a mission, I was able to sell the mission for about 50k and I am getting one in roughly one in every 5 missions. Also, you can get augment crafting mats. You can make a bit of money each time you send out a companion if you sell the blue mats, but the real money is in the purple mats you make. All in all since the xpac release, by sending out companions on two different characters a few times a day I have made about 2 mil creds by selling crafting missions and purple augment mats. So to say you only lose tons of money from slicing missions is total false.
  3. You also have to look at the ease of which you can obtain the mats. Biochem/Artiface mats are pretty hard to come to by on makeb. Depending on how much of a difference the patch they put out today makes on sending out your companions for the mats, it is most likely still much easier to obtain armormech mats.
  4. So I have a few characters with different crew skills maxed out and had decided my main would end up being a sage so I made sure to have biochem on him for the potions. While fine and dandy, I ended up changing my mind and am going with a gunslinger that I had leveled before, but the problem is he has 400 armstech. Now am I missing something here or is still better to regulate your crafters that use anything other than biochem to your alts? Biochem gets the reusable potions which come in very handy for pretty much anything you do, but I fail to see the benefit of having any other crew skill on your main character. Did they ever add some sort of bonus like free augments on the character or something like that? So am I missing something? Or is there some secret bonus to having something other than biochem on my main character? I sort of feel naked not having my buff/healing potions around whenever I do anything. Yes, I can make pots for my other character, but with the way it is gathering mats on makeb, that would be a lot of time and aggravation working on that.
  5. OK, thanks for all the information, I really do appreciate it.
  6. Ok, thanks for that. So I guess it's safe to assume that the best trinkets would be an on use power gain relic and a relic that has a chance on hit to give you x amount of power? So basically ignore the one that does damage on hit and the one that gives static power. Does that sound about right?
  7. Talking about the damage, say it does 194 tech damage... Then with a 4.5 sec ICD with a 30% proc chance, we will say on average it procs every 7.5 seconds or so. With no crits that is a dps of ~26. Adding in crits with say about 25% crit chance, that means 1 out of 4 will do 110% dmg (if using 60% surge). So say there's a 5 minute fight, or 300 seconds, that is 40 procs. 30 of those procs will do 194 dmg, totaling 5820 dmg and 10 of those will do 407 totaling 4070 dmg, adding those together you get 9890 dmg. So over 5 minutes that is a dps increase of ~33 dps. So the question now becomes... does the ~33 dps the relic does equate to an overall more or less dps increase than the static power relics? I know the on use power ones are great, but for the second relic is it better to go with the one that gives static 100 power or one that will add ~33 dps?
  8. I was looking at relics, specifically the proc damage relics and I am wondering about something when it comes to them. First off, it says it does like 274 tech damage... That doesn't seem like a lot, does it scale with your tech stats and bonus power making it hit harder? The other thing I would like to know is when you look at the relic you can buy with basic coms, it says it won't proc in pvp. Now if you go to a pvp vendor you can buy a proc relic that has almost identical damage and stats (if memory serves me correctly it only has like 10 less power on it) but doesn't come with the caveat in the tooltip saying it's limited to only pvp. Does that mean if I get the pvp version it will work in operations and flash points?
  9. If you roll into cover, doesn't that give you a 20% chance to evade ranged attacks? Or does it also work when you just take a knee?
  10. So I dusted off my old lvl 36 sniper because my friend is leveling up a tank and I wanted to quest with him. I am going down the marksman tree and with the change to follow through, I really enjoy the class a lot. Great damage and it flows nicely... and that makes me happy. Then, I fight tank type npcs and I feel sad. It's not the high armor of the target because I use that one move to reduce their armor. But instead, it's seeing their constant shielding of my moves. With only mainly having white damage moves, I see so many of my shots being reduced in damage by a great deal and this makes me sad. Is there a way to avoid this? Like, if I get my accuracy really high I can stop seeing that? Or do I just have to resign to the fact that when fighting tank type enemies my guy will be super weak vs them?
  11. I've been hearing how hard these new level 55 HM FPs are so when I went in there with two friends I expected us to wipe. We all have gear that is modded with the makeb mods (58 mods) and quest green implants and earpieces from makeb. The 4th person in the group was a dps sniper with mostly 69 mods. Anyway, we cleared HM athiss no problem, including the bonus boss. Now you could say that the dps guy was carrying us, however the three of us use damage meters so we can see how well the other guy performs. Long story short I was averaging 1550ish dps, tank was averaging 900 dps, and when the boss was dead, when you add up the total damage done by my friend and myself, the 4th dps guy was about midway in between myself and the tank. In other words, despite his vastly superior gear, he wasn't a very good player. So long story short, if you know how to play your class, know how to interrupt, know how to cc, the new 55s are easy. If you don't, then I can see how they can be hard.
  12. If sage healer is your favorite play style, then play it without worrying about companions. Here's why... The only time you will really engage your companions is during the story. And even then, once you get passed the planet you get the companion on, they don't really add much to the conversation. You will get some dialogue on your ship or in a cantina (same dialogue) when you get to x point in your story or get your companion's affection to a certain point, but even then it's only a few minutes worth. Once you finish the story and see all their side story dialogue, you'll tune them out when you are doing anything because you'll hear the same thing over and over again. Ultimately you'll be playing your character and that's the main thing that matters when it comes to enjoyment of the game. Your companions compose about 5% of the total game when it comes to what you experience in the game, so don't let them influence which class you play. If you are really interested in what happens with a companion and want to see it, instead of spending many hours leveling up a class to experience it, save yourself and just watch it on youtube.
  13. Taunts don't build aggro, they basically put your aggro to the highest person's aggro on the target and force the enemy to attack you for a few seconds, in that time you have to hit the enemy a few times to get over the enemy's target. If you go into a fight and use your taunts right off the bat, you are doing it very wrong. I'm an assassin tank and have zero problems holding aggro. But if I do lose it for some reason, I taunt the enemy and end up keeping threat on me. If I notice the same person pulls aggro again, then I guard that person.
  14. You'd think they would try to encourage crafting in this game. But from what I have been reading and hearing from guild mates, they have done the complete opposite and have left crafting to the most devoted with all their changes with material gathering and recipes. Such a shame, I was planning on raising a crew skill for augment making. But now? No thanks. I will say this though. After reading this thread I went to the GTN to see the prices of the new crafting materials and they must really be a pain to get. On harbringer server a majority of the new mats are selling for 9-10k for one of them. Looks like it's time to raise my gathering skills so I can make lots of cash.
  15. Here's your warning. 1.2 will be released a few days after the initial wave of 3 months subscribers end in hopes it will get them to subscribe for another month to try it out.
  16. You can be against cross server lfd all you want. But when they release the tool as single server and they see all the complaints about long queue times, they'll end up putting cross server in the game. Think about it. They used to be against lfd tools in general. However people complained and I'm sure when they cancelled their accounts they mentioned it and that's why they are adding them. However when people have to wait in the queue for an hour because of the small pool of players in the queue, they'll be in the same situation they are in now. So to combat it, they'll add cross server.
  17. Do what I did, play the free trial of rift. That game was pretty lame at launch but now it's really good. If you like it, then cool. If not, well it's not like it cost you anything. I'm actually switching to that game and having two of my friends from this game join me. If you have a good computer and can run it on max settings... Jesum crow that game looks amazing.
  18. I haven't logged into the game in almost two weeks. I have been posting a bit on these forums though, so that's something I guess. Even still, I cancelled my account last night and there are 15 days left on it. I doubt I'll log in before it expires. Despite that, I will check the game out again next year. Who knows, maybe next year this game will be super awesome with all their updates. But for now, this game just doesn't have the "It" factor to make me want to continue playing, let alone log in. For those of you that continue to play, enjoy the game and I hope you have a good time with it.
  19. What you don't seem to understand is that mmo players have become accustomed to these quality of life changes such as addons, dungeon finders, damage meters, etc. I know there are some out there that don't like them because it reminds them of the olden days of mmorpgs where nothing was handed to them, but the majority of players that have played the other games and have experienced the latest QOL changes have gotten used to them and when a game doesn't have them, they feel the game just isn't up to date. In other words, the society of mmorpg players has changed over the last decade. When it comes to the people arguing against such things on this forum, when you add them all up you get about 100 people. Hell, this thread is mostly between 10 people going back and forth between each other. Perhaps the forums aren't dominated by people wanting all these things, but when people cancel their accounts, they give feedback and they talk about some of these things. Hence the most likely reason they are adding dungeon finders to this game when they were originally against them. However I'll bet that in the beginning they will be single server dungeon finders, but as people complain more and more about the queue times because the small pool of players it has, they'll end up going cross server in the end. Other games have tried in the beginning to not have these tools, but in the end they put them in the game. Why? Because like I said, people like those tools and have become used to having them and without them, the game doesn't feel like a modern day mmorpg.
  20. That's like saying, "If I was a janitor I would refuse to clean toilets because people make a mess of what I clean. I'll clean everything else, just not the toilets." In other words, it's part of their job and criticism is part of the territory. If they don't like it, then they should find a new job.
  21. The SWTOR devs used to be against dungeon finder tools, however they caved and are going to add them. You can read about it here. http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/03...r-the-future/4 Rift devs used to be against addons. But they added them. Rift devs also used to be against cross server lfg tools. But they added them. SWTOR devs were against combat logs. But they started adding them. What do all these have in common? Players want these tools. While the vocal minority purists may be against them, many players do want such tools. Trust me when I say that within 1 year this game will have addons and full combat logs instead of just personal logs. Notice I said purists, not casuals. Casuals are people that enjoy experiencing the content instead of having a challenge. Casuals are the ones that play for a few hours a week. Casuals don't care if you put addons in the game, combat logs, or dungeon finder tools (although with their limited time they probably prefer dungeon finders). Purists however are the ones against addons, combat logs, dungeon finder tools, etc. Purists try to call themselves casual, however they don't realize that purist doesn't mean casual. Purists can be hardcore players that dedicate a lot of time to the game and want to experience the hardest content but make sure it's with nothing but the UI the devs give them. Casuals on the other hand cannot by definition, be a hardcore player.
  22. You confuse the term "casual" with the term "purist". A casual is someone that plays a few days a week, maybe 8 hours a week and doesn't strive to complete the hardest challenges in the game, but likes to experience content. Which is why they put normal or story mode difficulty in the game. It doesn't mean they are against addons or looking for dungeon tools, it just means they don't want to play the game on hard mode. A purist is someone who is against addons and dungeon finder tools. They think the game should only have default UI's that the devs put in the game, and they think the game should be about community which is why they are against dungeon finders. You can be a purist yet still be a hardcore player that likes to complete all the hardest encounters. A purist would be against an addon that made an enemy cast bar nice and big so you can see it fairly easily. A casual wouldn't care either way. So please, do not confuse the terms casual with purist. Those two terms are not interchangeable because they are different. However for some reason, people believe they are.
  23. They used to be against dungeon finder tools. However in an interview given on march 14 at http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/03/13/epic-in-scope-swtors-james-ohlen-explains-plans-for-the-future/4 this is what they said. -- Ohlens admits that after the game launched, BioWare changed "what we are focusing on over the course of the year based on the feedback the fans have been giving us." He put forward the level-50 content and tools as being the greatest example: "The number of level 50s is a lot higher than we thought it was going to be. Therefore, our group finder has become a much higher priority. It's essentially our highest-priority feature that is not going in 1.2. If there is one feature that 1.3 will have, it will be the group finder. "A lot of our feedback from the level 50s revolves around the dungeon finder. We have two operations, four level 50 flashpoints, and the hardmodes for all of them. We have a ton of PvE high-level content, but our metrics show that a lot of it hasn't been consumed by level 50s. Dungeon finder is the key there. That's one of the reasons that PvP is so popular because PvP is so much easier to get into than PvE. Once I started getting that data I was like, 'Oh, OK.' I knew that group finder was important. When leveling up, like we found during beta, you don't really need the group finder, but when you reach the max level, it becomes very important." -- So to answer your question... "lol sorry who caved with what?" "Who" = SWTOR devs and "What" = dungeon finder tools. So back to what I was saying, they'll cave with other aspects and within a year there will be addons and full combat logs.
  24. Just as they caved with the dungeon finder, they'll cave with addons and full combat logs. Rift also didn't have addons in the beginning, they were against it. But now they have them. Why? Because mmorpg players enjoy them. Just as in that game there was a loud minority crowd that were against addons and all those goodies were eventually ignored, the same will happen in this game. SWTOR will have addons and full combat logs within 1 year.
