  1. 1) Start PvPing early. Like, level 10. Getting your Valor up to 60 if you only started PvPing at max level is going to be very painful because those people you're playing against have been playing those characters in PvP since level 10, and they are now very good at it. 2) If your expertise is below 2013, you need to find ways of raising it. There are many good guides on bolster and how it works. Read them. 3) Battlemaster set and you paid credits for it? Umm... As far as I know it's been discontinued since 2012. When you equip them all in a WZ, is your Expertise 2013 or higher? If not, then you're SERIOUSLY gimping yourself. If you had started PvPing at level 10, you would be aware of this stuff. Trying to hit valor 60 if you've never PvP'd before level 60 is going to be so painful it may turn you off of the game entirely. If you want to learn how to PvP, start early and play often. Get Valor 40 by level 40, because the grind to 60 from there is LOOONG. Never, ever stay in a warzone if your bolstered valor isn't 2013. Well, it's OK to stay but expect to get trounced often by people with higher expertise than you. TL;DR: It's probably not worth it if you aren't enjoying PvP. FURTHER ADVICE: Use the Battlemaster set you bought in the appearance editor. Then you can get the look but you don't need to do any more PvP!
  2. If you are truly a new player, then leaving 12x turned on is doing you a disservice.
  3. General gist of advice here, and advice in general: don't plan on making much money until you hit ~55. If you're leveling your first character AND also trying to level up a crew skill, plan on being utterly broke, in fact. Upshot: keep your crew skill, but stop trying to skill it up unless you can do so for free. Sell what you're gathering. Get to 55 and do dailies, when you can easily make 100k/hour and more if you try harder. Once you have the money, level the crap out of Synthweaving and make money selling augmentation kits. Use all that money on your level 60 to fund alts.
  4. Hey, you're subscribing and it's content you pay for, right? So why not? I give you credit for only trying it once. But the people who were pissed that you were there had every right to be. Allow me to elucidate. Imagine that there is a bowling alley in your community. It's quite a lovely bowling alley, but in order to use their well-maintained lanes, you have to pay a monthly fee, and the monthly fee is the same for everybody. Now imagine that there are some nights every week that are designated "free-for-all," during which you can show up and get teamed with random individuals, then play against other random teams. Your score for these games is never saved. There are also some nights designated as "competitive league play," during which you either show up with your premade league team, or you get teamed up with a random, presumably skilled group of people, then play against other random teams full of (presumably) skilled people. Your score for these games is SAVED and POSTED for the entire community to see. Now imagine if, even though you know you're not very good, you showed up at one of these competitive nights. Your entire team's score suffers for it, and the individuals in that team now have a permanent loss on their record, at least partly brought about by someone who never should have been there playing on their team. If you were one of the competitive people who were grouped in your team and who's score suffered for it, would you be a little annoyed? Maybe you would even have words with that person, to try to convince them not to show up on a competitive league night until they knew how to play a little better? Personally, I would try to be polite about the whole thing but I can see how some, less tolerant, folks might not be. I hope this metaphor is clear, but it's entirely possible it went "WHOOSH" over people's heads.
  5. I'm pretty sure you get the RotHC expansion free with any sub (even if you let your sub lapse after that).
  6. If you're not very good at PvP (and you know it), then why are you queueing for ranked?
  7. Healing agro is almost nonexistent, assuming your DPS and tank are doing what they should be. Even at low levels, this is true. The dogs in Mando Raiders agro randomly (as far as I know), regardless of how much threat you're actually generating. So that wasn't healing agro you were seeing. Healing agro would be (for instance) the tank jumping in on a gold star, the DPS all jumping on the same gold star, and all of the other 6 mobs turning to you because you popped a measly heal-over-time on the tank. That's the only sort of instance I've seen healers pull agro from an actual, specced tank who knows their rotation. That's why Guard belongs on anyone who isn't the healer.
  8. If you understand your rotation and how to build threat (it sounds like you do?), then you just need to learn teamwork with a DPS: DPS PULLS AGRO! 1) Tank pops Taunt 2) DPS pops their threat drop. If these two things happen in that order, it's very unlikely that the DPS will pull threat back from you, assuming you continue on with a high-threat rotation. You could also place Guard on the DPS if they continue to pull agro from you.
  9. With 12x, this would look like this: 1) Do the same quest twice. Repeat 3-4 times on a given planet. 2) Go to your ship for a cutscene. Possibly head to the Capitol world to visit your boss (twice!). 3) Go to the next world and run through the 3-4 quests there but do each one twice. As you can see, this is getting pretty pointless. If you're going to duo, it's more fun to select different classes (or just solo all your class missions, and with 12x XP why duo if you're going to do that?). I recommend Operative healer and Assassin tank. Two of the greatest stories in the game, and if you ever want to queue for a FP you get an instapop every time.
  10. Why would you use your real name in-game? Why would you think people would be able to tell it was your real name? If you don't want to spend any cartel coins and your legacy is relatively fresh (no toons above 20 yet), just wipe it and start on a different server. Make a good legacy name this time--one you can actually live with.
  11. I'm afraid you're quickly losing any reputation you may have had with this community by making inane posts such as this one. Besides, tanks are FAR more in-demand than healers.
  12. Why are you posting here instead of rolling a tank? 12x XP is on right now, you know...
  13. Alrik, if they put expertise on level 20 PvP gear, then people would equip it and gimp themselves. Are Basic Comms useless? Because I usually level with a combination of quests + FPs + WZs, and I just trade them for Basic Comms before I hit Valor 40 (usually at 40 or 41). On topic: Remove the cap!
  14. OK, so, I have not done Korriban HM yet. However, (and please correct me if I'm wrong, here) isn't it the DPS' job to kill the adds, just, sort of, in general? In fact, it kind of ensures that the tank keeps a high threat buffer on the main boss... I've honestly never heard the phrase "tank was tunnelvisioning the boss" (because that's what tanks are supposed to do), but I have *often* heard the phrases "gold fever" and "DPS was tunnelvisioning the boss and ignoring adds." Caveat: on trash pulls, tank should try to get agro on as many mobs as possible, with DPS killing weak to strong. There may be something different in KI HM, though, I dunno. Or I'm severely misinformed or something--can and does happen.
  15. Stay away from AMD CPUs, as the above poster said. Also, if you can, get a desktop instead. You can get better performance for cheaper, heat will be less of an issue, and it's highly unlikely you'll drop a desktop or have it stolen. Tablet + Desktop > Laptop
  16. That's a good way to do it! Another way is to hover over each stat and look at the tooltips carefully. Each stat will give bonus damage and crit to one damage type, but ONE stat will give bonus damage and crit to TWO damage types. That's the mainstat.
  17. Thousands of PvP tanks cried "YES!" and then silence...
  18. So that they could then immediately make a new account and level it to 10 in under an hour? Simple solutions aren't always so great for complex problems (although they certainly are easy to come up with!). This problem is complex not least because there is SO BLOODY MUCH money to be had, and playing wack-a-mole with spammers doesn't work. There are simply too many of them, and they are organized. Besides, the gold spam you see on the fleet is simply the marketing side of the company. NINE BILLION CREDITS! Sounds huge! How many credits (estimated) get sold for $US every year by credit selling operations, though (only in SWTOR, because if we took other games into account we'd be here all day)? 9B sounds like a lot, but what if it's only a tiny dent?
  19. No, I wasn't trying to be condescending; I was trying to be informative. The internet has a way of doing that to me, though All of this information, btw, is in the Codex and is covered in the tutorial screens (at least it was when I first started 3 years ago). Welcome to the game!
  20. Did you educate them on proper DPS kill order? New players will never get better if all people do is talk about their antics behind their backs...
  21. You're a Guardian and you're debating whether to use a Willpower saber? Check the rest of your gear: each piece should have Strength and Endurance on it (and possibly secondary stats such as Power, Accuracy, etc.) If any given piece has anything OTHER than Strength and Endurance, get rid of it and replace it with a piece that has Strength and Endurance. Seriously.
  22. This is the problem with just about every MMO out there: if you haven't played MMOs, you have to rely on oral storytelling (a.k.a. wiki entries, etc.) to figure out how to do many things. The upside is, once you have played one MMO for a while, it's really easy to figure out other MMOs.
  23. Running repair on SWTOR client requires logging out of the game and waiting up to an hour while it runs. Opening the crew skills window in-game takes about 2 seconds (possibly less, if you use a keyboard shortcut) and does not require logging out. Let's let the OP decide how he would prefer to fix this problem.
