For me LS/DS choices - as well as rude/polite answer and taking or refusing a quest - are not about long term result of the choice - they are a roleplaying tool.
In this game you can be a patriotic Imperial Agent, greedy Smuggler or sadistic Sith and act as one when you talk to characters in game. Along with gear and look customization and relations with companions, It helps you create your very own character - doesn't really matter if this choices change the outcome of your story.
