  1. Interesting points. I'll bite but understand that we're derailing this guys thread, please take that into consideration before you open cans of worms! lol Why is there is a small vocal minority out there that none of these new huge high budget games companies seem to be able to sell to? Let alone keep when they do? Theyre mmorpg players, theyre target audience, if theyre such a small vocal minority it doesnt make their money any less important than yours or mine does it? One would think though that when someone markets their game "for all varieties of players" this vocal minority would be just as valuable as the "silent majority." Yet, this "vocal minority" will not sub nor stay subbed to the games you seem to think own the genre. Am I right? Huge issue in the mmo games industry right now, sub retention, and this issue spans across the mmo base, not just one select community. Youre just plain out wrong about Eve/CCP games btw but Ill let you find that out on your own. At the end of the day metrics and all that dev hoopla and business side crap is worthless talk to me as a gamer. Whats fun for 59 bucks? Thats the multimillion dollar question. But I guess being part of the vocal minority makes you feel that way. If youre going to sell a game from the perspective you sorta refer to, you might as well write on the box cover, "Vocal minority need not buy." That way those you consider the vocal minority need not show up at all and are able to put their money in a small indie game instead. Meanwhile those small but long lived games are still alive and kicking, and folks like you can keep looking through your statistical data for explanations.
  2. Interesting. Mistakes were made with SWG, it happens, but failure wasnt due to craft/economy. UO has a very similar economy to swg. EA owns UO, still there. EvE has a totally run player economy and eve is doing just fine. influenced largely by UO. Project entropia has a player run economy and theyre doing, pretty darn good. world of warcraft- adopted game design from all different games- I dont see them flinch when they lose a thousand subs. Their economy is also player driven. Millions of subs aint bad. Tor needs things unique to Tor, yes, but that doesnt mean its going to follow any path of failure because it makes some wanted addition to its crafting system. So, yea.. I think you guys can relax and turn off your caps lock buttons. The op never asked for a carbon copy. see?
  3. People are basically saying they want more gameplay involvement with the crafting system and economy bro. Nothing wrong with that. Id rather see these posts than IM QUITTING BECAUSE CRAFTING SUCKS!1!!onE posts. You know, at least they want more, not less and thats good. That said, Theres no reason to be rude man. Take a break or something. T7 says // Jedi = Needs Timeout// Vending machine location =that way--->
  4. Sorta. an example would be the resources involved the recipe type. the level of the item time taken to make the item GTN going rates =overall cost Thats a very basic way to look at it. so lets say your resource mission costs 1300 credits. You spent 1300 credits to get the resources so you need that back 1300 is figured in right off the bat. the item is colored, how did you get that? re, drop or gtn, if you bought what did you pay? so lets say you paid 1300 for a schematic, thats another 1300 for schematic value and its cost to you. If you had to run multiple missions for the resources, keep your numbers, figure that in. so now youre up to 1300+1300+? The consider the item level, we know obviously that a lvl 50 item is endgame gear, so its going to cost more. We also know (more or less)what people are paying for the items on the gtn (if theyre even listed, if not consider that) and you want to stay competitive but never gouge. Also consider the going rate of resources on the GTN. You might have paid 1300 for opila from the companion mission, but that 10 opila might be selling for 10000 on the gtn. Take into consideration that due to no real item loss, youre only selling one of these to a player= markup consideration. In this way you cover your cost, plus you gain markup for the item level and going rates. Whether you charge for your "time" is up to you. Hope that helps. edit- one other thing. Once you get your final cost, if the item isnt selling once listed, you can play with the cost, just never go below what it took to make your item in the first place or what you feel the item is worth. a week later you might sell that item for more, you never know. Off comment- A resource ticker tied to the GTN might actually help with this to show going rates for resources. I dont think anyones made one yet, but it would be handy especially if we move even more over to PD/PR.
  5. Concept? never gonna happen? easy peezy, people do that in their sleep. Skill loadouts. I wouldnt replace the trinity, id just open all the skills up within the classes, let people pick and choose, then put the roles into switchable loadouts. So you have tank abilities in loadout slot 1 Healing abilities in loadout slot 2 DPS in loadout slot 3 Debuff, buff ect on loadout slot 4. Everyone has 4 loadouts that they can swap on click before a battle and a 5th set which is basically your sandbox loadout. That pretty much serves a multipurpose sort of play . It opens up a wide range of skills and still allows players to gather for groups, choose their roles, get after it and go back to their solo play and chosen skillset after no? So imagine playing a sandbox sort of skill set solo, thats your primary skill loadout of chosen abilities, then for groups you switch up do the deed, switch back, go about your business. assume your role on a click. Healer dies? np click, im healer now, tank dies i got it. throw af ew symbols above heads to show role for less confusion and so on. Bamm, you please everyone.
  6. I know what youre trying to do there Op. Gotta say this though in relation to your thread title. No thanks. As a sidenote, If there is anything I appreciate in this game, it's the actual time, work and creativity that the people (designers, you know all the people youll never see, never hear of) put into it. Outside of that? All due respect to those who deserve it, I have no desire to help EA or Bioware "make SWTOR better." We dont pay to design this game, we dont pay a sub to teach them about fun or game development. Thats their job. It was their job when they made their game, its their job when people moan and groan. My only committment is the sub and when I feel Im done, Im moving on. That said, I beta tested, Ive given feedback and now... heres a tidbit of a clue. The game is not bad but it needs a TON of gameplay added so... keep it comin'. Genius level feedback I know, but thats all I got. Good luck Op.
  7. I didnt know people were selling items they got from comms and missions on the GTN. Not good news, im assuming you mean the BOE items. Folks wanna talk about BoP thats where you do it but if it were up to me there would be no comms to trade in for gear at all. Hot keys sounds good. Id probably prefer to have all gear orange (crafted of course) if we could get sustainable tweaks in place for it and a rework going. I think people have mentioned the issue where for instance crew skill mission returns makes everything close. That is annoying and yes it does happen on the GTN and yes it sucks. Cant disagree much here.
  8. So you're trying to craft for yourself? Also, theyre addressing the RE problems but thats not going to happen overnight. It will need some tweaking. So basically the cost of producing items is too high in terms of credits and resources. Yes? Well as a synthweaver,at 400/400/roughly 400, I think if you look at orange gear, and crafting criticals, it depends largely on the player to understand that he has to go over to an artiface and a cybertech to fill out his mods. More is being done about orange gear and mods now. Also, its up to you as a crafter to go over to those profession playing folks and say hey make me this, this and this, and then take that finished product over to the GTN list it to make your credits. Not all items are done just because youve made them. People who sorta get that are ogign to have sales. But you have to go make your connections and youve got to try this and come back and talk about the results of your efforts.
  9. Pretty much my point. The ops post however can be a little misleading to the passerby. Thats pretty much why we are getting these, "you cant have this and that in this game" sort of replies. Cant really blame them for responding with the truth when things are put like that though. However, other options are available and if all someone sees is the kneejerk memory of SWG's huge harvesters up like daisies in wide open fields, then they have the wrong picture in their heads. You dont cram that stuff into the maps as they are. in that sense theyre right. Every planet in this game is focused on combat from funneling the player through point A to B and backed up by the staggered mob population. Heck, to get some of the nodes you have to go through a mob and thats just annoying for 3-4 resources and mission version with companions is just as annoying at times. It like, Pay 1300 credits for a 3-4 resources with bright outlines and wait for 30 minutes PER :/ That stuffs not fun. Screw that. Resource gathering does need some love. A Personal sort of harvester is fine. Thats why I asked for a damn drill or bombs and probes and that should all be crafted. I dont need new zones or planets and I can do this on the way to my next mission right out of the ground. No space involved. NO new planets, NO new zones involved. Youd be surprised at what but people have to play to understand that can be accomplished in many different ways, if I can just convince our awesome crafting team, to trash the wow nodes that do NOT belong in an awesome sci fi game like swtor, we could have a little progress
  10. Sounds good. But im not going to do any space missions. Sorry, I have very strong negative opinions of the current space mechanics and I wont encourage more of it. Otherwise, I like your idea. You think maybe it might be cool to establish your own sort of somewhere? possibly? just throwing it out there. (You know for those who ask for housing and guild bases)
  11. I really have no desire to speak with opposite faction. You dont have this now so you say..i wanna talk to imps but when youre able talk to imps you just want them to hush after about 5 minutes and vice versa. I dont even like seeing opposite faction on mixed maps save for occasion. True story bro. One day I was out on tattooonie.. playing my consular, throwing pepples at unsuspecting baddies and criminals... when an inquisitor thought it would be fun to annoy me by standing next to me while i fought through a whole camp of mobs, down a long corridor all the way till the end. At the end, the inquisitor went right for the last mob in my bonus quest. The imperial did this for several reasons. 1. Because sith are annoying, no good, dirty, heartless, ridiculers of and at everything republic. 2. because they prefer the easy way to "moah powah." 3. just to make me wait for a needed mob repawn= a pve win for the sith. And you know.. being a high tier lightside jedi..in other words a consular.. doesnt help in that situation because you want to help them back to the lightside, and youre a goody two shoe do gooder wonderbread mary poppins Jedi so you obviously do not badmouth the sith, you just look at them with pity and wait for the respawn because your pack is filled with phat lewts and youre in no real hurry.. see how that works? Order of light and values or not.. :/ sith just suck and I like for it to be a very memorable/uncommon experience when I meet up with one. Dont you? It adds to immersion.
  12. Im working on it but im not getting the number of resources coming in where I can do this for the whole of lists. I have several RE gained schematics and actively purchase looted schematics from the GTN when credits allow. Crafting items themselves is not the problem, its the requirement of the third gathering skill resources that kill me and make this a total pain in the a**. One of the biggest issues im also seeing, is not having the arms, boots, belts ect to match orange items which is odd because our lists are packed with them. Matching Colors are always off or just not there on existing craftables. This is not true however with full crafted sets. in other words, those that are not "drop schemes" are complete, oranges on theo ther hand, not so much.
  13. Wait, theres what 13 planets plus four starting planets in this game heck I dont know. I dont keep count anymore... SWG had what.. 12 total? And Bioware is just getting started... in swg we not only had harvesters, but homes and player run cities which also consisted of cantinas, guild houses and player run shops and even factories all supported by crafting, not to mention ship crafting (cough) that came later.. People mean to say that we cant have one or two additional planets with fairly level maps to support this type of gameplay because this isnt that game? Thats just laughable. So Let me get this strait. Its fine to add and have: *flashpoint after flashpoint after flashpoint with loot for ages *tons of heroics and bonus quests that people hardly run on some servers *servers made to hold players galore, 1.7 million and growing apparently *Tons of armor asthetics that people want reworked and made customizable BUT ...we cant put any work into resource collection and economy when we have a combat team and crafting team working together..? Wow I just dont know what to say to that. Im shocked. Shocked! Especially in a game with an alledged 200 million dollar budget,(or is it 5 now) a proven developer in the game industry backed by veterans, and a following to support every title they launch, not to mention a second successful launch in the same year by the same game on the other side of the world soon to be followed by a third in ME 3 all published by one of the largest publishers in the world.. Go figure. I dunno, I just dont know. Whatever are people thinking. A Themepark/Sandbox hybrid?! Can that be done? DUn DUn DUN..And all I ask for is color customization and a silly little drill . I find it all hard to believe but you know.. whatevers clever man. Ill buy into the yes and nos here when I see actual proof of either manifest from this huge popular game company who apparently doesnt care whether you sub or not.
  14. Too late. Everyones nos and hell nos are all too late. This economy is player driven and its only going to get better. Its borderline laissez-faire as it is and we're only two months into launch. so you know.. tough nougies.
