  1. The armorings I moved to new gear has no set bonuses (or rather, they show up as part of a set but with no bonus for the set) The empty shells I kept around has new armorings/mods/enhancements (seemingly with the set bonuses)
  2. Damn good job on the world. It's incredibly pretty. (also, I want that giant statue of *spoiler* for my stronghold!)
  3. Still seems decidedly thin on core-game content. No new FP's or ops? Not even a new daily area/reputation grind?
  4. One of the most interesting cases: There's apparently a series where the up-to-now released books are now "Legends" but the upcoming book in the same (set during the movie timeframe, IIRC) are now going to be canon... It's the DCNU all over again *sigh*
  5. These are some very good sugggestions, especially the shield/hull damage separation.
  6. No, a continuity change. What Lucas says doesen't matter, what Lucasarts and the books and the games *publish* matters. They published a set of books that were (admittedly loosely) in continuity with each other (and with various games, etc.) now they've declared they're no longer going to follow that continuity. They might keep bits of it, they might recreate some of it, but the things they had, and published, are now dead, fossilized: They're not going to continue. There's a new continuity in town. Now, whether or not they're right to do that, whether or not it'll be any good... Well, that's still undecided (the old continuity sure as hell wasn't particularly good a lot of the time) but it's a new game now. Don't pretend that it isn't, because the most important bit of slapping "Legends" on the books is the fact that *no more stuff in Legends will be produced*.
  7. You're not getitng it. You're correct in that the status of the old EU could have changed at any moment. It (by and large) didn't, however. Now it has. It's like saying that "The sky could fall at any moment." and comparing that with the fact that the sky just fell down and crushed everyone. (not that this is a disaster or anything like it, but you're getting my point on potential vs. actual, right?)
  8. Again, as I mentioned, that's not really true. For starters, any storyline started post-ROTJ is gone now. It's not going to be continued. (they might turn out to make something similar, but the actual story that was, (and no matter how bad it was, some people obviously liked it) is now ended.
  9. That is precisely what they are doing. EDIT: I can totally see their reasons for doing so, but it doesen't change the fact that they're rebooting several decades of continuity. (in fact, that's almost certainly why they're doing it) The entire "We're going to keep what we like" is PRECISELY what the DC peoople said, btw.
  10. No, if they'd shown a desire to avoid that kind of handling of the issue, they wouldn't be doing what they're doing right now, because what they're doing is precisely what you're claiming they wouldn't do. (or rather, it's what DC did with their own universal reboot)
  11. While this is good and all, these two things would only be equivalent if both of these things continue to be produced. If (as it seems from info we've been getting) the "Legends" banner only applies to already published products and will not include any new ones set in "The Old Continuity" that means that these two things aren't equivalent: The people who want to know what happened to Jaina Solo or whatever (I haven't read much post-ROTJ stuff so I have no idea what important stuff has been going on) aren't going to get that: Sure, they can write their own fanfic, but that story is dead. In that sense the canonicity mattes less. While these kinds of universal reboots can work, they can also uh... Not work very well. Just look at the response to the New DCU.
  12. No, legends is the same level as N-canon. (IE: While tangentially "Star Wars" it is no longer related to the "Star Wars Universe Ongoing Saga " so to speak. And it does matter significantly, because while it did not bind Lucas (who honestly, is only responsible for a small part of the ongoing Star Wars stuff being produced) it *did* bind the other producers.
  13. Actually, C-canon was official, sort of: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Canon They had an official guy at Lucasarts whose job it was to categorize on what level of canon stuff was in.
  14. Except that this isn't true. The Abrams movies are still a part of Old!Trek Canon, it's just an alternate timeline (and explicitly so) just like say... The Mirror Universe is. This is *not* the case (at least not as far as we've heard) with the "Legends" imprint.
  15. This is econd.hand but...: http://www.gamespot.com/articles/lucasfilm-confirms-all-future-star-wars-content-to-be-canon-including-the-games/1100-6419225/ Depending on what that means, and what they mean when they say "Expanded Universe" this can be interpreted in different ways, but it seems to me that means SWTOR is now non-canon.
  16. No it didn't. It was considered lesser canon, but it was still canon (certainly for the purpose of other products of a similar canon tier) As mentioned, the change is basically that previously it was "X is canon unless it contradicts Y." Now it is "X is non-canon unless specifically reproduced in Y". That's a fairly big difference.
  17. There's a fundamental misunderstaniding here of what "canon" means. It does not mean "cannot be contradicted" (if that was the criteria, we wouldn't have the Bible we do have) but rather "authoritative", (the origin of the word seems to be "measuring stick") It should be pointed out that the biblical canon (from where we get the word) actually has a term for "Kinda canon but not really", that word is deuterocanonical. (deuterocanon meaning "secondary canon") Now, people are I in some respects missing the point of the New Star Wars Canon (NSWC?) what it does is largely change the status of these low-level canon works from "Canonical unless expressly contradicted by a higher level of canon." to "Not canonical unless expressly reproduced in a canon source." This *is* a significant departure, a significant cahnge. It reduces the EU from deuterocanonical status to expressly non-canonical (IE: The status of the Star Trek novels)
  18. 1. Murderball, as mentioned. Possibly give the carrier a HP buff, while making him/her immune to healing. 2. Tug-of-War (like Battle for Praag in Warhammer Online) a chain of objectives: Capturing one objective unlocks the next one in the chain and closes the previous one. To make it more interesting you can have the defending side recieve buffs the farther towards their side the contested point is. 3. I like the idea of "Boss mode" (they kind of had that in the final city sieges in WAR) of some kind. 4. Objective Assault. Attacking side has several objectives that needs destroying (using conventional DPS-ing) defenders have to stop them. (would also be fun to have a "capital ship defence" mode in GSF, where one side has to damage as much as possible/destroy a capital ship and the others have to defend it) 5. Capture the Flag classic: Similar to huttball (carry the flag to your goal) but each side has a flag that they must defend at the same time. 6. Capture and Hold: A single objective needs to be captured and held to score points. However, there are minor objectives that can be secured that makes this easier or harder. (such as artillery emplacements that rain down AOE damage on the objective, shield generators that provide damage buffs, etc.)
  19. Incidentally, the reason I'm hoping that the "Saresh is secretly the Emperor" crackpot theory is true is that it would enable us to have a few Republic-themed Operations just for variety
  20. Okay, I've been playing through most of the stories by now (almost done with Consular, then only Smuggler left) and I've noticed a few minor story connections at various points, that tie together the various class stories/companions, for example: -Zenith (Jedi Consular) used to work for Gray Star, who you take down as an Imperial Agent -Lt. Iresso (Consular) used to serve under Aric Jorgen (Trooper) -Doc (Knight) has to operate on Nem'ro the Hutt, which involves having Kaliyo (Agent) over as a hostage. -Qyzen Fess (Consular) calls up Mako (Bounty Hunter) when looking for a trandoshan renegade I know there are probably more, anyone got a good list?
  21. I played the entire X-wing series, but I think my first flight sim was ye olde Sopwith Camel Also Aces of the Pacific/Over Europe, Freelancer, Rebel Assault, Elite, and many, many more.
  22. I do believe it is also technically possible to one-shot a scout with the Plasma Railgun+Bypass. (although since it's a DOT it ironically can take quite a long time to actually die from it...)
  23. Ions can be very nice if you're teamed up with someone, as you can drain shields/mess up systems while your buddy delivers the killing blow. It's probably sub-optimal otherwise though.
  24. My impression: The Blackbolt/Novadrive is fine. It's very effective at what it does, but has some pretty glaring weaknesses (no real "knockout" missiles practical for dogfights, lack of heavy blasters, lack of shields and armour) excellent objective fighters, and good for dogfights but you have trouble actually scratching stuff, and one or two shots will kill you. Now, the Sting/Flashfire is more problematic, largely because it seems so much better than the Rycer/Star Guard in most respects. Yes, it's not as durable, but it has anti-figther missiles as well as anti-turrent rockets, better durability than the Blackbolt, and so forth. The rycer has more versatility (three types of damaging missiles, two types of blasters, including ions) I agree that the ion cannon is probably a bit impractical (how about giving it a slight range increase? Make "open up with ions, then switch to blasters when you close" a bit more viable) Scouts are obviously designed to be able to take out turrets: Both Rocket Pods and Thermite Torps are pretty clearly set up as "turret killers".
