  1. Check out the server consolidation FAQ: http://www.swtor.com/support/helpcenter/6446 In particular... http://www.swtor.com/support/helpcenter/6675 Sounds like we get 12. Which is a good start, and some welcome relief. The Big Question now is this whether this is A) the slot extension they talked about earlier, or B) solely done to help with server consolidation. I'm hoping B so that we'll get more slots when the store goes online.
  2. I have no doubt that a significant number of people are either letting their accounts expire or putting this game on the back burner until they can draw all their character ideas together on one server. Cryptic games, for all their (many, many) flaws and inferiorities, kept folks in game and paying money by offering additional slots. SWTOR, with BW's high-quality voice-acted content--differentiated by class and light/dark-side choices--and synergistic approach to multiple characters in its legacy system, is ideally suited to adding more character slots. If they delay too much longer, folks will just move on to the Next Big Thing, new players will arrive to see a largely vacant lower level population, and only a diminishing pool of die-hards will be left grinding on the end-game content.
  3. Just to reiterate what we've been saying here in open-letter-to-Bioware style... WHEREAS additional slots will increase retention of SWTOR's premium account, paying, and playing user base; WHEREAS additional slots will enhance ALL user experience by keeping more players in the game and PLAYING, resulting in a more visible character population across all levels; WHEREAS additional slots will permit greater utilization and enjoyment of the recognized Bioware strengths in content: lightside-darkside choices, class content, and faction content; WHEREAS additional slots will greatly enhance the (perhaps unique) Bioware innovation of its legacy system; BE IT RESOLVED that additional character slots are INHERENTLY and UNIQUELY beneficial to SWTOR, and should be phased in WITHOUT DELAY. Suggested implementations are not mutually exclusive, and all have a place in SWTOR's ecosystem: 1. Additional slots for reaching level 50, 2. Additional slots for completing class Act III arcs, 3. Additional slots as legacy rewards, 4. Additional slots for premium/[paid accounts, 5. Additional slots for additional fees. And of course, the more slots the better. Slots will result in increased revenue directly through any fees, indirectly through retention of paying accounts, and as a tertiary effect of enhancing other users' experience through character population. This should more than offset any costs associated with transient server migration and continued maintenance of database entries. In short: "Mo' slots, mo' playas, mo' money."
  4. As posted earlier, I think people would accept paying for the additional perk of more slots. It would make us happy, keep more of us in the game and playing so other players won't feel like the servers are de-populated, and bring in more money to bioware so they can keep developing/maintaining the game. I'm not seeing the downside here. And if there is one, mitigation is pretty simple. Too expensive? Price it accordingly. Too few players at 50 because they're alt'ing? Make free/cheaper slots a legacy reward or reward for hitting 50. And if this feature is being delayed, for pity sake give us some kind of timeframe or whatever limited decisions they've made. Will we ever get it? Will it be part of the F2P rollout? Will it come on the heels of server consolidation? Please, give us something so I can justify a continued subscription.
  5. In their defense, they are going through server transfers and balancing, which they may need to pin down before they add in more slots to those servers. But I'd like to see some sort of announcement like, "Once the server rebalance is complete, we will be adding slot options."
  6. Three things I'd like to see... 1. More Slots 2. More Slots 3, More Slots http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=320927
  7. There are so many ways to bring in more slots without blowing anything up: one-time fee, tiered accounts, monthly fee, level 50 award, legacy award, in-game unlocks, and combinations of the above. But with so many people clamoring for it, I hope Bioware works to bring this online FAST, before people have their "extra" characters so spread out across servers that they also need migration features. Or they just bail on the game until it happens, which could lead to a nasty spiral. There's also another wish list post out there: http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=384809&page=8
  8. Another thread, http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=320927, had an update that included some dev statements regarding additional slot. Commitment in principle, not for 1.2, and with no firm date. Probably figuring out how to price it.
  9. K., The thread http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=320927 had some linked dev chatter about possible slots in the future.
  10. If the concern is server/database resources, I agree that an overall limit would be the way to go. There's just so much (forgive the buzzword) synergy you can get out of alts in this game (mission/recipes/drops) that demand for additional slots on the same server seems a natural result.
  11. I guess release in 1.2 was a forlorn hope. With a big release like that they probably had to draw the line somewhere. Vut it's good to hear that will happen at some point. Once people really start to get into Legacy--and the devs seem committed to keep adding to it--those extra slots really need to come in with their next release, if not a point release. They've already made considerable investment of design time into all that branching content. More slots are necessary to deliver that content.
  12. Yeah, you could get another account, but then you miss out on that legacy fun. (And then there's the hassle factor of logging in/out.) And if slots gets added later, there probably won't be a way to move characters between accounts. BTW, here's another slots thread: http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=320927
  13. Assuming it's a load issue, they could add it in very gradually--one slot at time and see how things go. BTW, here's another slots thread: http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=320927
  14. Hadn't thought of the Republic v Empire potential. Maybe not for everyone, but the devs seem fine with it, so I don't think it would break anything. BTW, here's another slots thread: http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=320927
  15. Don't jump on the guy too fast--he never said "no", just "I won't use this". And perhaps trolling a bit perhaps? I know most folks won't care about additional slots one bit. But I think the minority who do are of significant number and will find it valuable--either in money directly paid for slots or indirectly as it will keep them as paying subscribers longer. And someone mentioned being happy with "just 10" slots. If the main concern is database impact, maybe slowly adding in a few optional slots over time might be the best option and would keep performance on the server side from getting slammed all at once. Now, if performance impact is not a concern--then, game on! The more slots the merrier.
