  1. wasn't really a choice. =( I just know that the previous MMO I spent a good chunk of time in, it felt like the game was designed around grouping, guilds and pvp. I can't quite put my finger on it, but the story is great, but i dont feel like im apart of a huge world, let alone a galaxy to explore which is one thing SWG did right.
  2. companions or I end up doing them at a much higher lvl. heres part of my point. if the game automates core gameplay mechanics, you are taking that away from the community to provide. For example, in SWG you had to go to other players for training and it benefited both the player and trainer.
  3. I just hit level 25 and am still playing solo and haven't had a single reason to group. Compared to SWG I see little reason to group, join a guild etc. I thought the community aspects would improve once I got higher lvl but now about half way through my classes and I still haven't had a need to group with anyone for anything let alone converse with. It just seems like as a MMO the game is lacking, as a solo player game the game is watered down and as a loot game, I'm just not that compelled to hunt for better items. I wish you could take the loot progression from Borderlands and the sandbox from SWG and marry it with the story of SWTOR
  4. I am a completist whore with a tad bit of OCD sprinkled around. While I like wondering around looking for missions, I wish I had some way of knowing how many missions I was missing. Is there a screen or something I may be missing that would show me all the missions for a given area / planet?
  5. I LOVED SWG Pre-NGE, was miffed for 2 years then came back and actually loved NGE for BH and Jedi. I think swtor needs some sandbox, as opposed to theme park, content. i think most of my issues would be resolved by that.
  6. Good call Bioware. I had just about had it, since that would have been 3 times out of the 4 times I've attempted to play the past week where the servers where down.
  7. I think that is where a better player sand box comes in. When you have player driven events, cities, dungeons etc, there is really no limit.
  8. I know EA / Bioware is down playing the loss for 400,000 subscribers saying that they where mostly "casual players". But from what I am hearing on the boards, in game and my own experience playing SWTOR I think the trend is going to continue unless Bioware focuses on sorely missing MMO features. While I enjoy the story, the graphics, presentation etc, its lacking in community features and feels wooden. I have little incentive to interact with anyone, I don't see people looking to do raids for uber loot and I'm missing the sandbox / build your own experience I felt in SWG, second life, etc. I've seen a few of these going around / posted and know if we make enough noise, they will listen: build game around chat Why is chatting so painful? The chat feature is practically hidden, is not predominately displayed or apart of the experience and is hard to use (it loses focus after hitting enter) chat bubbles Without chat bubbles it is very hard to discern who is talking to you and adds to the wooden feel of the game. In other games I know who is talking to me and when. I can see who is speaking and make a connection. Increase player thresholds when in cities / zones Even on HIGH / FULL severs, I'm lucky if i see more then a handful of other players in a given area. I get the wooden design of the environments where NPC is analogous to STATUE. But in other MMOs this is compensated for by other players populating the area. Lack of Player Driven content Games like SWF had entire classes dedicated to creating player content from clothing and armor, guns and swords and furniture and housing. There is just very little in game features to build / care about the community Player Events Are there ever any? For example, I remember random raid parties of 20 plus players for high end loot / leveling on a hidden enemy bases. faction raids against faction towns, planets, player cities, etc. SWTOR just feels like everyone is playing a single player game
  9. Thanks for the responses. The search went down and my post got buried quick. I ended up running bootcamp/win 7 on my 2011 MB Pro 17". runs ok without shadows but i do see frame drops and def not running at a uber high frame rate: 20-30.
  10. how can anyone fairly review a game only after a few days especially a mmo.
  11. I agree with camping quest areas being the suck. I remember my highend system (at the time) grinding to a halt trying to get into a holocron cave. still, haven't seen many people in towns or rest areas which makes me feel like SWG post NGE when I lost multiple guilds. I'm hoping it opens up more, but right now am missing the random raids and great pvp group play.
  12. I meant at any given time I've only ever seen like 10 people max and usually its less: around 1-5 other people. I'm not talking about windows or anything. I mean actually in front of me playing in game. =) again, I've only ever played SWG but i would run into people constantly and would need their help or they would need mine. My first few hours playing SWG I was already invited to guilds lol. Today I spent 30 mins asking if anyone could help me and never got a response. Maybe the lack of talk bubbles or that chat is TL as opposed to center? don't know but doesn't feel like its a core mechanic of the game. seems like everyone (at least so far) is playing their single player game / story and not much reason to interact. but I'm hoping this isn't the case as you progress.
  13. Granted I'm barely a level 9 Bounty hunter, but I've seen maybe only 10 people on my starting planet. does it open up more at some point or is overall traffic in other areas low on purpose? I can recall during the SWG glory days running into thousands of players on any given planet which is the only other MMO I have experience (both launch and NGE)
  14. i had some issues with my preorder code but Bioware resolved it pretty quickly. server has been issue if you want a particular server to play on with your friends. I had 2 different ones full i had to wait for but comes with the territory. Like being the first to ride a new ride at disneyland. . . . theres gonna be a wait.
  15. im in the same boat as you but to be honest, our bad. we should have pre-ordered sooner. its kind of like getting mad at people in the front of the line ya know. relax and we will all get in soon.
  16. I saw some screens a couple months back and they looked just like the SWG UI. Is this pretty much the same engine. Reading about the game and features I'm having trouble understanding the differences?
  17. Hey everyone, I haven't played a PC game since Half Life 2 first hit lol so a bit of a fish out of water. Im mostly a console gamer these days but am wondering what type of rig I could build to run this baby silky smooth maxed out but on the cheap (I will probably only play this game and the first crysis since I missed it. How much budget would it take. I see systems with i5s for around 1k and seeing crazy overclocked i7s with dual video cards but honestly have no idea what I need to play it butter maxed.
