  1. Again, the game's class system is messed up in classifying characters. Maul could use force lightening, but so could three quarters of the Knights/Warriors in the EU. He practiced stealth when it suited him, but push came to shove, he preferred to attack his targets head on. Hell, the very ability inquisitors use to channel their rage and regenerate is based so thoroughly on Maul that it even uses his face as an icon. I'm saying Maul wasn't an assassin, but more because no one was. And no one was a Knight, and no one was a Warrior as we know them. All Jedi were a little different in their paths, and so were all Sith. It's only because this has to be an MMO that we have people who can Force Choke but can't Force Push, or people who know how to use Force Lightening but not Force Jump.
  2. I'm somewhat amazed that no one has said this yet, but: Every single run of the mill Jedi Shadow gets shatterpoint. The thing you have to remember about 'rare force abilities' is we are three thousand years before the movies. Three thousand years before systematic purges obliterated almost every scrap of knowledge of the force, and killed off most of the Jedi. Fully three thousand years before the 'Most powerful force user of our time' was a whiny teenager who's greatest stunt was lifting an X-Wing out of a swamp. The way force abilities become rare is the people who knew them die out, and fail to pass their knowledge on.
  3. Yeah, especially in terms of the Jedi/Sith in this game, the class system is a joke. Darth Maul was if anything a marauder, nor an assassin. He wasn't stealthy, he wasn't a master of the mystical force, he was an angry, angry warrior. He used Ataru form and a double sided lightsaber because both were powerful, unsubtle ways to push his attack and allow him to kill quickly. As for Yoda, he defies categorization. Super powerful with the force, but an amazing swordsman.
  4. It really feels like your lightsaber should stay unactivated on your belt as a sage/sorc, and maybe only pop out when you thrash or whatever. Going so far as making the channels/casts you get as part of the spec 'sheath' the lightsaber would also work.
  5. The heat mechanic (BH mirrior) is explained in a codex entry very early on. I'd wager money ammo is too, it's just not very clearly marked out as a "Important: Read this!" thing.
  6. Right, which is why I said in this game. And melee not being able to hit you is meh. It's the reason so many people run around like ninnies and bunny hop all over the place in PvP, and as often as not end up going into the acid/fire/pit because they're not paying attention to where they are in order to try and get some kind of advantage.
  7. I'm really not even sure what benefit 'melee' get from being behind a target, and this is from a level 50 Marauder. Sins/Ops can backstab, and... we don't get cleaved in PvE. That's about it. If you can't win a fight against a turreting ranged it wasn't because you couldn't get behind them.
  8. Powertech and vanguard get it when an ability resets the cooldown of another ability (Rail shot for Powertech.) I've also seen Operatives and Scoundrels laugh when they get their Tactical advantage and Upper Hand, respectively. I'm not sure any other ACs have an ability that resets a cooldown or stacks a buff like that though. Makes me really glad my marauder doesn't chuckle when he procs Ataru form strikes. That would get old FAST
  9. They're bugged. Have been for a while. Makes you wonder though, is the weapon dropping in Kaon a Rakata weapon, bug included, or does it just have an anomalous crystal?
  10. Jedi, as a rule, are people. Shocking, I know. The whole idea of the Jedi code being the be all end all of anything is silly, and is presented as such in the game. You meet plenty of NPCs who offer their own opinions on things like warfare, romance, politics, etc. And how it relates to the force. There are as many different opinions on what is what as there are masters. Bioware just happened to screw it up by assigning Dark/Light points to choices in dialogue, instead of letting you rationalize your actions yourself and decide which side of the moral spectrum you fall on.
  11. If previous trends follow, REing the magenta crystals will get you nothing at all. For example, I can craft Enhancement 22. I can RE Enhancement 22 to a blue, and then to a purple. I can't RE that purple into an enhancement 23, though. The +41 crystals in the Rakata weapons are basically crystal 25s, while the ones we can make are 22.
  12. I have personally made a modable lightsaber with an augment slot, however I've been told by friends that the modable armors cannot have augment slots. I don't know that for a fact, but I can confirm that modable WEAPONS can have augment slots.
  13. If only that giant beam of light didn't appear because the person capping or planting is invisible except for the very last second of the channel
  14. I've run Black Talon, False Emperor, Boarding Party and The Foundry on hard mode more times than I really want to count. For all my time I've gotten Columi Bracers and Chest, energized boots and gloves, and enough tionese crystals and commendations to buy a pair of pants. Add to that the fact that my only loot out of our guild's first Op was an ENERGIZED helm. Why does a set who's only distinguishing factor is that it's exactly the same as the tier 1 set but doesn't give set bonuses even exist? Your suggestion isn't terrible, but we could honestly do better by just changing crystals to commendations, and cutting the price for the Tionese gear by like 20%. WoW had badges of heroism and those worked fine, and then switched over to justice/valor points and those worked alright too. It's just dependent on the numbers. Also, our tank has done literally ages of PvP, and has almost two full sets of champion gear for his trouble. Maybe PvP is just the way to go to gear up for PvE?
  15. Having everyone wait to release till Gharj reset worked for our raid, but we still had to clear trash three times while learning him because we didn't know we needed to wait the first time, and then a little later someone tried to take a Brez and the button moved. The killing the whole raid after a wipe just for good measure, and some people not getting credit for the kill are also very, very annoying. Sure is fun to pay double repair bills and then not get any quest credit for the week.
  16. Artifice can craft Rakata relics and Lightsabers that if you are really lucky, can have an augment slot. Of course, the weapons arn't BoP, so that's Augment slotted lightsabers for anyone willing to pay for them.
  17. You weren't sent to capture him, you were sent to keep him out of republic hands. Though, there are quite a few Light side or Stupid choices in the game. The Jawa mystic on Tatooine comes to mind.
  18. This always happens, sure, but it seems to be especially egregious in TOR. The mentioned ability in the battle for Illum stands out; why only have the shield burst hit melee? What possible problem is that ability solving that doesn't include the ability of ranged DPS to keep hitting him? Think about that, if the design is "Stop hitting this guy, give the fight a little extra time, push the enrage a little closer because of these gaps" why doesn't it hit ranged too?
  19. Enrage timers are stupid, they're just slightly less stupid than all the current alternatives. They solve a few problems and create a couple others, but "Discouraging people from playing their class however they please" isn't really one of them. Having a tank in DPS gear isn't really an option with a tight enrage timer, and having a healer DPS also isn't. It sucks if that's all your guild has available, but that's the way it is, otherwise what do the guys who rolled/chose DPS do? Now, the converse to that is, the enrage timers we have in TOR kinda REALLY suck. They make us think that maybe Bio's idea of our progression and our own idea don't mesh. Are we supposed to be going from normals -> Ops -> Hards -> Nightmares? That's what it looks like from doing some of the hards in quality normal FP/crafted gear. It's hard to tell though, everything is still a bit buggy and it is still very early yet. TLDR: Enrage timers are necessary and can be pretty fun. Soft enrage timers that are presented well more so, but either way. The problem is the enrage timers we have currently in TOR are a little too tight and a little too inelegant to be fun. They're doable if you're dedicated and pretty good in gear that logically seems like it should be sufficient, and they become more doable as you get better and better gear, but that first step is a doozy.
  20. The chest bug persists on any fight that ends with a chest. If you wipe on the encounter, there seems to be a very high chance of the chest simply becoming unlootable. CS tickets return a form answer and no resolution, so any loot/crystals are lost. Curiously, the HK fight wasn't nearly so bad in my experience, though our group was also stymied by Revan's Lightening applying 20kish damage upfront without any chance to interrupt the channel. Although, I have been experiencing very high ability and character lag when doing Hardmodes late in the day, so I'd guess it's some kind of server stress thing.
  21. There's two problems here 1: The adds that Krel spawn melee VERY hard. To the tune of 2k on a medium armor character. They spawn ON the group if you don't move the boss at all, so melee end up taking the brunt of the damage 2: The boss uses a buff called something like Shield Probe. When any character hits him in melee range while the buff is up, they take 5-7k damage and get knocked back. because of the laggy nature of any fight with many actors, people can often get 2 or 3 shots off on the boss, and die instantly when all the damage applies. Note this also applies to melee classes AoEing the adds on top of the boss, they'll still be taking that reactive damage. To make matters worse, these problems persist on hard mode, and are coupled with a VERY short enrage timer, meaning if you have melee, you are probably not going to be able to kill him before he goes 200% damage mode and starts killing people with his previously only 9k grenade damage. Have fun!
  22. The way I understand it is companions stop accepting the lower ranks of gifts at some point. Or rather, they stop gaining any affection from them. I was doing some science to see how accurate the posted companion stuff was, and Vett, who was already near 5k or so, gave +0 for every single level 1 gift off the vendor, despite saying 'wow thanks' for some and 'this is a joke, right?' for others.
  23. The boxes from treasure hunting are insultingly bad for credits, but they also give items most of the time, so I guess that's how it balances out? It's always annoying to get a credit box and nothing else for a mission, as even from a rich it'll only return 50-75% of the cost of the mission itself.
