  1. then by all means keep playing. I'll never have a problem paying for games, I played DAOC for 9 years maintaining 5 accounts between me and my wife for that entire time. played WoW for 7 years. but both of those games had something to keep me playing.. this game does not.
  2. the thing that should be alarming to those of you SWTOR lovers that are gonna remain subbed is this: all of this blaming the market trend for the dropping of subs means that they are in denial that there's anything wrong with the game. if they can't at least admit that there are some glaring issues with the game and that is the reason for sub loss, they wont fix anything and the game will become stagnant at an alarming rate. food for thought.
  3. wait...so if 100% of the people that bought the box kept their subs up instead of a nearly 75% cancellation rate the game still would have gone f2p??? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA wait gotta breathe HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA yeah it looks just as stupid when I type it too.... oh and as a point of contention: isn't it ironic that 1 month ago some players were hating on any article in Forbes predicting the game going F2P by saying they have no insight into gaming and now those same players are giving gospel credence to CNN? LMAO you silly defenders.
  4. that's a huge thing that Rift nailed... dynamic events(rifts) as well as monthly world events that involved the community and actively promoted community cooperation. monthly... swtor had 1 similar event in 8 months and it degenerated into massive clumps of people on the fleet spreading the plague to farm the currency(I forget what it was called)...
  5. pretty sure this was a thinly veiled troll thread.........
  6. Trion really is superb at reacting to issues in a timely manner.
  7. point 1: losing a game effects your rating less than winning point 2: ventrilo, mumble, teamspeak doesn't care what faction you're on.
  8. agreed by any standard the communication with the player base is anemic at best.
  9. right.. 40% said it was the sub model HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHJAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
  10. so what your really trying to say is that it's not that the game didn't deliver what was expected that was the problem but instead it was the players that didn't expect the right thing. more than a million people will say you're wrong.
  11. just wait until f2p when server reputation has no meaning
  12. expect alot more of this once the f2p kicks in
  13. why deprive anyone of the best part of the game(voiceover and story)
  14. like the story that 40% of all the people leaving left due to sub cost? head, meet sand
  15. by comparison to SWTOR(which was trying to be the WoW killer), it was.
  16. there has to be a balance between "giving players something different" and "alienating the playerbase"
  17. I don't know what game introduced us to the global cooldown but that is one change that could have been left out of the market. DAOC had no GCD, the ability speed was determined by stats, you didn't have to wait until the icon lit up again on every ability.... the the combat was super responsive because of the lack of the GCD
  18. every indication so far is that ALL servers will be f2p servers
  19. I've completely accepted that f2p is happening, could care less either way. I honestly have no opinion on if it will be a good or bad thing... it's not my issue with the game. but people have been clinging onto that "40%" fed them by EA/BW as if it were gift wrapped by God... I just thought I'd shed some light on those people
  20. let's take a look at what 40% actually means when taking surveys. let's say 1000 people left the game(arbitrary number) of which 800 actually took the survey(probably being generous) .. that's 80% of those 800, 40% clicked on the box that said "because of the sub" that's 320 people of those 320 people one can speculate that 50% of those people were unhappy with the sub because the game didn't deliver enough for them to continue paying.. because, let's face it, when you buy an MMO, you know there will be a sub attached. the other 50% just couldn't afford $15 a month. so that magical 40% of 1000 players looks alot like 160 people.... so from now on instead of spouting numbers that they fed you, take a harder look before just believing the numbers are fact. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=62rkSS6Y_7Y PART 1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hBL2QfgQES4&feature=relmfu PART 2 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PY0U_x8PHDg&feature=relmfu PART 3
  21. re-read it... familiar elements are in both categories.... the key differences with the options that I was pointing out are budget and intention. the budget required to take on WoW will be HUGE.. SWTOR had a huge budget and placed the lions share of that on the story and voice over aspect on their game... they gambled on that to be the wow killer and lost. rift on the other hand never intended to be the wow killer but instead made a very solid game that every gamer could play with little/no learning curve and then offered something very few people had ever seen in the way of specs and dynamic world events(which was lifted from warhammer) now you see how rift is an option 2 game.....
  22. this is pretty spot on...there really are 2 options facing developers in the MMO genre: option 1: to go up against wow.... go all in with an enormous budget and make a huge game with all the expected bells and whistles while trying to offer something unique. option 2: make a game with a much smaller budget that has familiar elements while offering some unique additions. SWTOR went with option 1, their unique element being story and voice over, but never really delivered with the "expected bells and whistles" they put all their eggs in the story and voice over, but the game play suffered.. to be fair tho, any game company choosing to take option 1 is in for an uphill battle to say the least. Rift is an example of a game that went with option 2.. Trion made a solid game with modest budget(by comparison) a groundbreaking spec system and constantly dynamic interactive world.
