  1. OK, so I don't have any problems at all running the game on my pc at 1900x1200, with all the settings as high as they will go. I also have a little gutless laptop that I use mainly for work, and the other day I was curious just to see what SWTOR would look like on it, and if it would even run at all. I was actually pleasantly surprised. Of course I dropped all the settings to the lowest they would go, no detail, no shadows, etc. I am running it at 1366x768 res. Interestingly, I'm still getting frame rates approaching 20, and although the graphics suck in comparison, it is actually playable in many cases. In my opinion, not good enough for playing, but perfectly acceptable for sitting around doing crafting stuff. Oh yeah, load times are longer, visuals are poor, but I couldn't believe that it actually allowed me to install and run it with the specs my laptop has. Here are those specs: Acer Aspire 5734Z-4725 Intel Pentium T4500 (this is a dual core, but nowhere near as good as a core 2 duo. It runs at 2.3 Ghz) 3 gigs ram (DDR 3) Intel GMA 4500M graphics (No, really! Probably one of the worst graphic boards I have ever seen. No onboard ram - all shared with system ram, and I haven't found a game from the last few years that works well at all. Even Facebook games are a little slower than they should be, although playable with no problems.) Windows 7 Home (memory eater) Crappy little single speaker, but Realtek audio works ok with headphones. Windows Experience Index Scores: Base score 3.3 (based on graphics card) Processor calcs per sec: 5.8 Memory ops per sec: 5.5 Graphics performance for Aero: 3.4 Gaming Graphics: 3.3 Disk transfer rate: 5.9 So anyway, I'm pleased to know that my little old gutless laptop can actually run SWTOR well enough for me to work on crafting whenever I want. Heh, I even successfully completed a space mission on it! I was just surprised by this and wonder how many other folks out there have weaker secondary computers that they aren't using for the game just because they didn't think it would run. I remember when I purchased EQ2 when it first came out, and it wouldn't even install on the computer I had then because my graphics card wasn't powerful enough! I had to go out and buy a new one before it would let me past the splash screen. If I can run SWTOR on this laptop, it should run on practically anything!
  2. I totally wasn't expecting 30 days of free play. Classy move, Bioware, you really didn't have to but I really appreciate the fact that you did! I was just excited to see all the new updates!
  3. I haven't really noticed a change lately. I did notice something that made a HUGE difference from me during one of the beta weekends I played. I am running an I7 3.2ghz, 9gb DDR3 1600mhz ram, GTX 260 with 1.8gb ram and a standard SATA hd. I think for the most part, our specs are pretty comparable. I think our video cards benchmark right around the same thing. Anyway, I played two beta weekends with 3gb of ram and had lots of problems in higher texture areas (inside caves, building, etc), where my frame rates would drop to unplayable levels. I was experiencing the same thing on my third beta weekend, and added ram right in the middle of it. Once I put 6 more gb in my system, ALL of that lag was gone. During my 4th weekend, prerelease, and ever since then, NO problems. I always stay at least in the 40s now (and sometimes go way higher), even on highly populated worlds and in high texture zones. I also jacked out my settings all the way and run at 1900X1200. At least in my experience, ram is critical to this game. 3gb just wasn't enough with Windows 7, which makes perfect sense anyway.
  4. Again Jx, that doesn't really make much sense to me. First off, I have multiple characters, one is level 50, and I have not even purchased the 20,000 credit slot. I have never really had any trouble with an overly full inventory thanks to the abundance of medical droids throughout the game and I have utilized the companion to sell off trash maybe 3 times. So it isn't that I want more slots. Second, the idea of "RP"ing that the inventory slots are my companions' slots doesn't really hold water either. It seems that Bioware has gone to extensive efforts to replace some of the role playing with realism, for example the unprecedented use of voiceovers instead of neverending text to read through like all the old mmos. My point (and it isn't something I see as a "problem" like you said) is that it seems more natural and more realistic for the companions to have inventory slots of their own. The inventory screen is already set up perfectly for it since there are different tabs for inventory, mission items and currency. It would be set up similarly to the character screen which has tabs for the player and their current companion, or all companions while shipboard. I guess it would be nice if they could carry as much or more than me since they seem to be more powerful than me at various points during the game, but even just one or two rows of slots seems feasible. Again, I have no problem with the current set up because it hasn't caused me any problems. I am simply pointing out something that may have been overlooked in the development process as a way to add a tad bit more realism to the game.
  5. I appreciate the effort, but that logic doesn't work for me. Mainly because before I had a companion or when I dismiss them, the pack is the same. According to your idea, if I dismissed my companion (or before the first one is obtained), I would actually be able to carry nothing at all. It would make more sense if each companion had their own exclusive inventory, and if you dismiss the companion or switch to another one, anything they are carrying goes with them. In essence, their inventory would only be accessible while they are active, or all could be accessed from the ship. It's not like they all share the same gear, they tend to keep that when they go and return with it when called upon.
  6. Well, they did give our companions to take a minute and go sell all our trash while we are in the field. I guess that is nice, but I would like to see a "companion" slot in my inventory where I could put all the crap I wanna hang onto but not carry myself. As far as it being a money sink, it definitely is, and I have a lvl 50 Jedi who hasn't even paid the 20k yet for the second upgrade. I guess I haven't really needed it that bad.
  7. I just now noticed something. I seem to be able to carry quite a bit of stuff (more if I pony up the funds). How come my companions can't share the load and carry at least as much as me? They are typically strapping people that could at least hold on to a FEW things for me. Afterall, I'm outfitting the crap out of them at no cost to them! Plus THEY WORK FOR ME. Thoughts?
  8. This thread is a joke. It is just as ridiculous to suggest that we get free time because of patches as it would be for Blizzard to want to charge us for the content and fixes they are adding within the patches. I guess one suggestion would be that they do credit you for the "downtime", but in turn you would have to pay $2 every time a new patch is available so you could update to the current version. Sounds ludicrous? Yep. Sure does. Patches are designed to improve the game. They can't freeze time to apply patches so the servers have to go down at some point. I can't believe this thread is up to 11 pages. I can't believe I just wasted time and bandwidth posting on it!
  9. Nothing here is major, but would aid in game play or add a little more realism. 1. During space combat, I tend to lose the reticle on the screen sometimes with all the action going on. Could this be customizeable? It would be nice if we could make it larger, change color, etc. 2. Speeders are great. However, they are basically nothing more than walking at higher speeds. Could we have a little less gravity on the speeders? If you drive a speeder off a building, you take the same damage you would if you were on foot. It seems like the repulsors on these vehicles would at least lessen that damage, and that they would provide a more fluid, soft ride over terrain. They don't seem to match the gravity of the taxi speeders. 3. Our ships have tons of useful/not so useful things. How about adding the ability to send/receive email from our ships? It seems like with all the other technology in the universe, ship email would exist... 4. On missions where we have to release prisoners, or something similar (especially in story zones), there are typically more prisoners around than we need to release. Once we have released the quota of prisoners we still tend to run into a few more that are now unreleaseable. It would be nice if we could still release them, even though it isn't necessary and adds nothing else to the mission. This would just add a little more realism to the quest. No man left behind! That's it... Nothing to big here I suppose.
  10. I like these kinds of posts because I get sick of the constant whining. I post one every once in a while myself, but they roll off pretty quickly in favor of complainers. I have a full-on good guy, level 38 Jedi Knight Sentinel and I have been loving it. Things seem to be a little different once you hit 30, and I have been enjoying the story advancements. I even ended up on one world with lots of stuff to do, but it only lasted a level or two. I like having a break like that every so often so I don't feel overly attached to a planet for any period of time. I also started (now level 10) a polar opposite bad guy Bounty Hunter and have been enjoying that too. I feel a little guilty when making horribly evil decisions (I killed a father in front of his son last night), but it certainly brings about a different play style. I think Bioware did a great job on this and that it was worth the wait, contrary to what the "entitled" complainers may say. My advice the them is if they don't like it, go back to WoW and wait for a couple of years after some updates!
  11. Thanks for the hours of fun you have given me so far. Thanks for making the server status so easy to find on your site. Thanks for the 120 hours you gave me for FREE during beta where I had a fantastically fun time. Thanks for making a game with real content and excellent voice acting. Thanks for giving us a game that actually felt more "finished" than several other games that have emerged lately, even though I know that an mmo is always a work in progress. Thanks for stuff that works. Thanks for keeping Star Wars alive. You crazy bastards at Bioware deserve a break for the holidays, so I hope you have a nice time with your families. Don't listen to what the hater douchetards have to say, you guys rock. Happy holidays to you all.
  12. I'm a 32 Sentinel, and I just finished Alderaan and a few things that come after it. I'm having a ball. This game seems to be more for those who want to quest and follow the story line. Maybe that part just isn't for you. I just got my legacy (last) name and there were some pretty big advancements in the story. I'm taking a break to eat something right now, and honestly I can't wait to get back in there to see what is going to happen next.
  13. Agreed. This mmo is better than all the others I've played, hands down. It is very discouraging to hear all the haters because I'm having a great time. I even put in about 120 FREE play time during the beta weekends and have never seen a better beta. OK, there may still be a few things to work out, but we are talking about an mmo. They are ALWAYS works in progress for YEARS. For this one to work as well as it does, with as many people as are playing, with as much content and cool stuff to do, Bioware definitely deserves an A+.
  14. Well, I'm sure that the heavy-wearing classes are balanced to where they should be wearing heavy armor to reach their balanced potential. Yes, they have more options on what to wear, but by wearing light armor, they are essentially equivalent to a light-wearing class that is using armor way below their current level.
