  1. i've been unsubscribed for something like 2 months now but i check in on the game from time to time to see how it's coming along. i was blown away initially by the voice acting and presentation but that slowly faded as time passed. last month or so i was given a free month due to legacy level meeting the requirements and i only logged in once during that free month, that is how bad it became in reference to my feelings of the game. (now the game is completely uninstalled) the reasons why? the absolute main reason, the number one issue i had: "the world" the main reason i play mmo games is because of the idea of exploring, when i first played final fantasy eleven (which got me into mmo's) it was the exploring that hooked me and what i continue to look for, even without the best graphics ever they still managed to create a world that had atmosphere and felt alive and was really fun to explore, a great example is the first time i travelled by ship.. i still remember it like it was yesterday: i got on the ship and was in the lower decks crowded around 20 people or so when you heard strange noises and there was all kinds of speculation of what was going on, a few people went up to investigate but never returned, there were rumors it was some giant beast or something, many of us including me were too scared to go up and just sat in that room the whole trip.... later on i found out there was this giant sea monster that attacked the ship. there was many things like this, i felt like i was on a journey.. i had so many moments in the game that made me feel like i was on a journey/exploring this alien world. it's hard to capture the moment in text, it's one of those "you had to be there" things but... it really satisfied something within me, it made me feel like i was actually exploring a world full of dangers and wonders and things to find. there was never anything like what i experienced in ffxi with this game, the world feels so lifeless as if it has no soul (so to speak).. there is literally no fun in exploring, it's just a paint by numbers experience of "grab quest ---> follow the marker to quest completion, rinse and repeat". i recently tried guild wars 2 beta and right away you could tell it brought that magic back, that magic of exploring a world.. i felt that spark again that i felt back at ffxi and right then swtor was basically a distant memory. this type of mmo is basically a soulless, pretty face with nothing within. that is the main reason i left and pretty likely not to return. -------------------------------------- 2<the graphics/engine. just horrible, in this day there's no excuse to have such graphics/engine.. it really feels/looks like something from 2006. and to just completely ignore all atmosphere and not putting in any kind of effort to have a world full of life, i mean it's star wars... how can tattooine and hoth not be crazy epic with so much life to it. bad, bad, bad. 3<the ship part of the game i'm a huge fan of space stuff, star trek, firefly, stargate, space travel, etc, etc... so having my own ship and my own crew in an mmo is like a dream come true... i found myself, however.. so disappointed with this part of the game... just like the world, it was so lifeless, so dull... such a disgrace... for someone like me who loves this type of thing so much to be so bored by it and to not even care to enter my ship or do anything with my ship speaks volumes to how much it lacks in creativity and imagination which basically sums up the rest of the game. 4<character creation it's really quite behind the times like the rest of the graphics, it's very limiting... it has no variety, it's something you would find in a game back in 2006, not to mention all humanoid species in a star wars game which is unacceptable... the cyborgs are a complete joke and a disgrace to sci-fi fans. it's just a craptastic effort all around. 5<not having a choice in pvp how! how! how! can a game not give you a choice for over a month in pvp!? i had to sit there and play the one warzone i hated (alderaan war zone) so many times, in a game i paid for and continued to pay every month it's completely unacceptable to me not to have choices/options. if i want to play 100 huttballs in a row and never play alderaan i should be able to but what happens instead? i barely get 3 huttballs in 6 hours of pvp gameplay and mostly get alderaan which i can't stand and have no fun playing in.. so, basically i'm paying to play a game where i'm forced into the warzone i can't stand... madness. i put up with it for a while and there was a chance at patch 1.2 for them to finally give a choice but it never came. unacceptable from my point of view. that's basically a strong 5 reasons why i left and most likely won't return. odds are i'll be enjoying guild wars 2 for a while untill something better than that comes around. i refuse to play another mmo like swtor that brings the complete opposite of exploration to the genre, exploration which is the main reason i like mmos and the main thing i look for. i was fooled by the pretty face of swtor's initial presentation but it won't happen again, i'll now make sure a mmo has a really great exploring/journey aspect to it.
  2. true, i agree with you there. the vanilla wow world pvp was awesome. i understand what you're saying.
  3. so, basically nothing can be cool or fun, cuz everything's been done? why do you even continue living then. srsly. it's nothing like wintergrasp or alterac valley. actually. kinda like southshore of old but a little more action packed. anyway, i don't get why everyone is obsessed with "new"... there isn't going to be much "new" ever. most things have been done. untill virtual reality when we can actually go into the games and live t hem. try and lighten up and have some fun. there definitely wasn't any yawning going on from my chair.
  4. well, it depends how many people you have with you as well. we had probably 20 people or so there.. so it was absolute carnage. if you don't enjoy melee you probably wouldn't have fun i suppose, if you had a bow or gun you could switch out and roll back and fire off some ranged and then move in for melee, etc. the game requires a ton of movement, so you can't just rush in and stand and button smash.. you need to move around alot, running back and in... switching weapons depending on the scenario, etc, etc. my only melee is a thief and i've had some fun with it in events, but it has an awesome move like the warlock teleportation where you set up a circle and you can teleport back to that circle... so i'll jump in and jump out, switch to bow, etc. could possibly try a different class or maybe try different tactics or different weapons. elementalist fire attunement is pretty brutal with a dagger. 2 fire walls, you can cross them and make a big X of fire and burn everything, it's awesome!!
  5. if i was just recording the epic battle we had a few moments ago some of you might of changed your minds. on a hill a ton of bandits invaded, as elementalist i switched to fire attunement and created fire barriers while ranged used the hill as the superior positioning... bow users were using my flame walls as combos to take the fire with it to the enemy. alot of people don't mention the combo's which are somewhat similar to ffxi's finishers but not as good. that was so fun. lasted like 8-10 minutes. just being able to switch to fire attunement and create these fire walls or this speed burst fire trail like the flash, then switch over to water and unleash ice meteors. awesomeness. that was some serious fun carnage!
  6. don't forget about this: "join us in the Wayfarer Foothills in the norn lands for a special Beta Weekend Event finale, tonight at 11:00 p.m. PDT." should be interesting to see what happens.
  7. yeah, i don't think anyone can claim that gw2 voice acting is anywhere near the quality of swtor. then again, does voice acting really matter? i guess if it means that much to you... i could easily play a game without any voice acting and put music on, actually.. i'd prefer that alot of the time.
  8. it's an area quest to help this farmer out, you can water corn, or feed a cow, or you can destroy these worms in the garden.. the thing is that it gives you a choice of how you want to play it out, and in this area while you're doing the stuff an event pops with bandits running in from all over. so, it's not as boring as they're trying to make it out to be. it didn't feel grindy to me or "go do this", if i wanted to water the corn i did, etc. you can complete the quest without watering the corn or feeding the cow and you can just fight the worms if you want.
  9. i played around 5+ hours each day of the beta and i prefer gw2 over swtor which is saying something since i'm a huge sci-fi fan and would rather play a game dealing with aliens, spaceships, wormholes, advanced medicine over the whole old fantasy style of game with myth elements. the main reason being is gw2 encourages you to explore, they put effort into the worlds and you can go off into parts you want to and you're likely to find something interesting. just going off underwater and exploring or exploring caves really takes me back to why i got into mmo's in the first place. it was a very welcomed and needed thing for me. the graphics are wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy better, swtor's graphics are a disgrace in the year 2012. some people had issues with lag and login, i experienced no such problem.. it worked pretty flawlessly throughout even with 30+ people on the screen in events. obviously the swtor voice acting completely destroys gw2 voice acting in every way, shape and form. and the writing in swtor is better in my opinion.. but at the end of the day, story.. in a game isn't the end all, if i want good story i will usually read a book, watch a movie or television series... it's not a dealbreaker of a game doesn't have some great story. i'm more about exploring the worlds and atmospheres in games. the only thing i found myself missing from swtor was the legacy. i like the little legacy i have built up in swtor. all that being said, i've had a free month with swtor and i've only logged in a few times and i'm considering uninstalling. the game just is not that good in so many areas. the graphics/worlds/soullessness/no exploration/the paint by numbers linear style of it... it's just so blarg. i'm going to be keeping my eye on swtor in the future to see what direction it goes in but i have my feet out the door. gw2 beta was extremely fun. i knew it was overhyped and wouldn't be the best game ever so i didn't have those expectations, i had fun which is the point of games.. and i don't have fun in swtor. i wish swtor was better cuz i prefer sci-fi elements but such is life.
  10. well, i gave you many links to research. was trying to be helpful. i mean in that one link there's like 100 other topics on the subject that one could research. if one can't find answers therein, what more can one do. i guess because i do tons of research i expect others to do so as well. if you look through all those other budget builds for swtor posts you should find common ground on your question and hence answers. as i said it was the best i could do.
  11. lol dang, dunno if he would still be my friend. that's a pretty craptastic build. haha. i can't even say if it would run it well. "dual core" mah gawd, that's like going back to telephone internet connections. i'm not really good with budget stuff, i'm more a mid range type... sorry i can't be of more help. i don't want to give you wrong advice and say that crap would play it and it doesn't lol. best i can do is another link https://www.google.com/#q=low+budget+build+for+swtor&hl=en&tbo=1&output=search&source=lnt&tbs=qdr:y&sa=X&ei=9daaT8fEL8XYgQe60_zzDg&ved=0CAgQpwUoBQ&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_qf.,cf.osb&fp=8c7646f229469991&biw=1339&bih=856 dunno what else to say except i'm glad i'm not having to use such a build.
  12. you don't mention your cpu. if you can afford it, i'd greatly recommend going the intel/core i5 route. i don't think i've ever seen anyone regret it. if you're on an absolutely strict low budget it's probably best to look around on something like tomshardware https://www.google.com/#q=tom%27s+hardware+low+budget&hl=en&tbo=1&output=search&source=lnt&tbs=qdr:y&sa=X&ei=T8-aT_7lDojPgAfEqJSjDw&ved=0CAgQpwUoBQ&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_qf.,cf.osb&fp=8c7646f229469991&biw=1339&bih=856 http://www.anandtech.com/show/5005/holiday-budget-system-buyers-guide http://www.anandtech.com/show/5184/holiday-midrange-system-buyers-guide my personal opinion is only going for a corei5/intel/nvidia (gtx 460 are somewhat affordable in the budget range now) as i think it's affordable and such a great investment. (possibly a core i3 i don't know as much about it as i chose the i5) understandably some people just don't have the funds for that set up... so, i guess i would refer to the links above.
  13. cpu is overkill, dropping down to a core i5 is more than enough. if you have even a basic knowledge of bios, etc you can easily overclock it using a multiplier to around 4ghz if you have an ok cooler. if you're going with 1 video card. the 750w is fine. i'd recommend this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151087 ram, you should only need 8gb. i'd recommend corsair or g-skill. asus is always a good choice for motherboard. i'm not familiar with the z77 as i bought/researched my boards when the z68 was coming out and got an asus z68 pro. if it's similar to a z68 it's a solid choice. i'd always go with nvidia over radeon, but that's just my preference. i had problems with radeon and ever since i moved to nvidia i never have problems and it looks great, works great, drivers are great. anything in the $200 + range of nvidia cards should be fine, something from msi/evga/asus. if you go with an ssd i'd recommend the crucial m4 128gb but it's always something you can wait for at a later time... personally, i'd probably go with a 640gb wd black for my operating system drive and then go with a 3tb wd green drive for my storage drive. or possibly a 1tb black/3tb green for my os drive with plans of switching to an ssd later and moving the 1tb to a music drive or something. i'd look to getting a decent cpu cooler, air cooler would be fine. and any type of good brand dvd burner. asus is always a good choice as usual. but yeah. that's basically it. just try and stick to good brand names for the most part. usually can't go wrong with them.
  14. this thread is kind of pathetic lol. at least i now know that some girls out there are as almost pathetic as i am. (the difference being they probably actually have partners as to where i'm alone) i feel for you girls though, you don't get alot of good options. most of the male companions seem kinda blah.
  15. before the game was released there were many threads that popped up, they mostly discussed atmosphere in the game... things like day/night cycles, weather, swimming, etc. (something about sitting in chairs). many of us expressed how important these things were to an mmo and alot of people would respond with things like "there are way more important things", "who cares about atmosphere", "lol i don't need weather" and on and on. i remember that polls, and threads would constantly show up and many passionate people would give their opinions on this. obviously bioware/ea didn't take note as the game lacks all of these things that we expressed. so... now that the game has been released and out for a few months.. i put forth the question, where we right, afterall? this should be an example for the future of all rpg games, never ignore these important things in an rpg game. as many of us said before, probably the most important things to focus on. ps: i kinda understand they couldn't focus on alot of this because the graphics are so bad, it wouldn't make much of a difference with poor quality,. i guess it's because of the engine? it doesn't support good graphics, i suppose? lol i can't imagine having trees gently sway in the breeze with these graphics but something could've been adapted.
