  1. I disagree with the assessment that the LS Trooper sucks. I do agree, some of what consitudes Light Side and what constitude Dark Side irks me (and sometimes completely violates common sense; IE: that Imp on Taris who surrenders, the war criminal? Can't we just, ya'know, stun the twit and try him for war crimes? If anything, letting him go should of been Dark Side), but overall I find that the Light Side Trooper is great fun. The Trooper mirrors Shepard pretty closely (Indeed, the female Trooper is voiced by FemShep's VA, Jennifer Hale). The 'Light Side' Trooper is generally the Paragon, while the Dark Side Trooper is generally the Renegade. Let's use the case-in-point of Garza ordering the execution of Civvies. Even Jorgan, who is normally the 'do anything to help the Republic win' is against the idea. What does the sane LS Trooper do? Get their ID and gets the civvies to Coruscant Security so they can be checked out. Boom, you just did a Light Side action and avoided unneccesary death which could shoot the Republic in the foot when it comes time for PR. Bioware stated it as much: The Trooper's morality arcs around how far to go to win the war. Will they do everything; salt the fields, kill everyone who gets in the way, do whatever it takes even if it means destroying what the Republic is supposed to be and, in essence, become the enemy. Or, will the Trooper stand up against the descisions to kill/main/destroy everything in order to win, but in the process build up long term possibilities for the Republic to survive past the war. As the LS Trooper tells Garza after the cyborgs; "Are we the Republic, or the Empire?" Now, do I feel that some choices being LS are pretty stupid? Yeah. In hindsight, letting the soldiers go on Taris shouldn't of been the ONLY light side option. There should of been an option to tell them off for abandoning their comrades, who will now suffer more because they decided to abandon them. There also should of been an option to check the chain of command; remember how they said they only signed on for one year, and were on Taris for five or something? IIRC, unless there's an active war (and there wasn't at the time), that's illegal. Even if it took a little longer and was harder, they could still get off Taris without abandoning everyone. That's a Trooper acting Light Side (there's more than just yourself at stake), but he's not brutalizing them towards an option. All in all, you do NOT have to be a total Dark Side bastard to enjoy the Trooper story. Indeed, some things work better by being Light Side than Dark Side. Killing every Imperial you meet won't win the war, sometimes you need to capture them (see Moff Dracen in the Republic side Quesh world arc) rather than give in and let their insults make you do something stupid and play into their hands. War is not just won by killing everyone; it's also won by destroying their will to fight. The LS Trooper shows a strong character who can go toe-to-toe with Sith Lords and win, and the LS Trooper (from knowing Elara) knows that all Imperials aren't scum. Some are just patriotic people doing what they feel is best for their nation and for their families back home. The Light Side Trooper knows more often than not when they go to far. I'm no Jedi fanboy and I think they need to be hit a few times to wake them up to reality, but they aren't wholly screwed up, and neither is being a Light Side Trooper. The Dark Side path is "quicker, easier", but it is by no means the most permenant solution. Remember that the LS Trooper, while certainly happy to end things diplomatically if it can be done, has absolutely no qualms about gunning his/her way through legions of Imperial soldiers and Sith in order to win the war, and you can stanging well bet that it wasn't by talking them down.
  2. I did get a TOR Bounty Hunter vibe from Boba Fett when he was dual wielding against all those goons, just like a Mercenary AC bounty hunter. (Though Ventress is obviously a Sith Warrior Marauder ) Didn't expect to see Light Side +50 though Just a random drop here, but wouldn't it be somewhat amusing if M1-4X (a Trooper companion) showed up at some point in the Clone Wars? Say, he was found in the junk heap somewhere and reactivated to start beating up droids? Sounds like the set up of a whacky/comic episode. Hey, HK-47 apparently survived to the Galactic Civil War, so it's not that impossible.
  3. "Rage is a helluva anesthetic." - Zaeed, Mass Effect 2 I believe that summerizes how Maul apparently survived. Anyways, at least we can rest knowing that Sam Witner is going to comment about clashes with canon. Supposedly, when he playtested the Junkyard level in TFU, he voiced disapointment when he saw a wrecked X-Wing in the wreckage (this being long before the X-Wing was introduced). He was glad to know that later on, it was replaced with a Z-95, the X-Wing's direct predecessor.
  4. Absolutely no way she could be 17. She's 15 going on 16 at most, as when introduced she was ~14 years old. The Clone Wars lasted, in-universe, what, three and a half years tops? And I think that her early character was supposed to be a bit snotty, IE, too young/inexperianced to know when she's getting into stuff she shouldn't, but by the third/fourth seasons she's matured out a lot and really is a likeable character. This development was slowly shown in the second season and blossomed in the third. Even the movie showed some of it with Rex knocking some sense into her when she raises the point about rank (though the full juice of it was only seen in the novel, sadly) As for her considerable talents; it's briefly mentioned when Anakin comments on her "advanced talents", and being trained by both Anakin (directly) and Obi-wan (indirectly) probably helps, along with having to learn-on-the-go and actual combat experiance. Plus, she could of been a pretty promising trainee anyways. In a sense, her development is pretty close to the main series. Started out rocky/iffy, but as time went on she found her niche just like the crew found their little niche/pace and got into their own.
  5. He was hung by the politicians because he was the most convinent scapegoat to pin the blame of Havoc Squad's defection on. They can't blame Tavus even though he was responsible, it'd hurt their careers. They can't blame the Trooper, (s)he's the only loyal member left and they don't want to give you reason to join Tavus for blaming you, who had absolutely no way to be in on it, on the defection. Jorgan was the closest guy they could draw a half-reasonable bead on for the failure since he was mission control, so they could string him up to cover their own sorry rear ends... or whatever they have. All in all, it's just political bull. It isn't supposed to make sense... After all, when did politics make sense? Also, anyone get annoyed when you say "I did not know them very well" because you were only with them for a few days tops and then only on brief meetings you get yelled at for lying? I suppose the guy is just being an arse, but its true...
  6. The 2D series really went over the top. I mean, Ventress torching 36 odd V-19 Torrents with just lasers while Anakin has to spend a while to do that or use missiles? Wut? SPHA's being blown up with lances? I'll give the 2D series credit for setting the stage and being an enjoyable over-the-top action flick (IIRC, they were meant in-universe to be propaganda films by that kid Mace met on Dantooine, though that may just be net rumor). The new series, after a rocky start, has really come into its own. I agree, some changes to the EU were painful (though some were just honest mistakes, IE, fighting over a gas giant in the Bothuwai system was a mistake of using a different planet in the same system than actual Bothuwai), some weren't too big a deal or can work fairly easily (adding Ahsoka in, the Mandos changing, etc.) All in all: -The 2D series excelled at over-the-top action film and had some genuinely funny moments (Grevious with a chainsaw (implied)? Heck yeah) - The 3D series is much more realistic (for Star Wars, at least), and has a much bigger emphasis on plot. Still has holes/bad ones? Sure, but so does every show, and it should be noted that a lot of the bad stuff is earlier in the series, when the writers were still adjusting and getting used to the series. Both have good sides and bad sides, but I'll take the 3D series anyday.
  7. By the high levels, any Republic player is going to be punching out Sith for a hobby. My Vanguard started making a hobby out of it on Alderaan Always satisfying when a Sith Lord or Darth dismisses you as a grunt before you pound their face into the ground with a mix of stock strike, pulse cannon, and Gut
  8. I'd advise the movie only to get an introduction to the primary cast of the series. The series lacks a real chronological order that's been revealed, but if you're going to watch it all just watch it by episode order (with a couple exceptions, IE, watching "Clone Cadets" (Season 3), then "Rookies" (Season 1), and finally "ARC Troopers" (Season 3) will get you that story in chronological order), then that may work so you can see how the series evolves over time. The series is pretty hit & miss early on, to an almost sadistic degree, but once you get to Season 3 and Season 4, the episodes start becoming much more consistantly awesome.
  9. If it's strictly cosmetic or for social purposes, I wouldn't mind. IE, different colors for Force Powers based on alignment, a few social 'Rally'/'Heroic Cry' tricks that're basically fancy emotes with VFX/SFX etc. But actual combat skills? No, I don't think so. Modify a skill to fit a character's alignment a bit more? (IE, the Light Side smug's "Dirty Kick" aims above the family jewels if they so chose to be more of a stomach hit while a dark sider just shoots them or knifes them)
  10. I know it'd never happen because it'd directly clash with a Imperial flashpoint lore wise and it isn't shared, but from the get-go I thought that it'd be something interesting to discuss the possibilities of.
  11. Let's say, theoretically, the Republic had a version of The Foundary to run. How would you set it up, what would be notable highlights in it, etc? Note: this was written presuming companions accompanied the PC's to prior Flashpoints I'd set it up as Revan taking up the offer of assistance you can offer him at the end of his release. He asks for your help in his plan with the Foundary. When you arrive, some Sith Commandos engage you because they managed to infiltrate the place. AFterwards, Revan explains that the foundary before you learn that due to partially defective programming some droids go haywire. This eventually culminates into a LS/DS choice. You meet HK-47, and he explains the whole thing, and the massive extermination. At this point, various companions could chip in. Particularly for the Trooper, Elara would really react to it, pointing out how many innocents are going to be killed, etc. Light side being to try to stop it, dark side being going along. Light Side would then have to plow through the Foundary to reach Revan, while Dark Side might fight Republic forces who decide that they aren't going to accept this and try to stop it. The DS boss would probably be some Jedi Master of sorts, while the LS boss would be Revan. Maybe the DS players try to go for ends justify the means, but he won't stand down. Meanwhile, LS players get to call Revan out for it. For example, the LS Trooper with Elara with him: "Look at her, Revan! Look at the face of a lady who helped save your *** from the Emporer's Prison! This is a lady who's rejected the Sith's brutal policies, who sacrificed everything to do what's right, to stand by her morals which are better than half the karking Senate's combined! Are you going to throw people like her away just because she just might have some trace of Sith Pureblood somewhere up her bloodline a few dozen generations back?" or something to that effect. Basically, LS gives you a couple epic 'What the hell, hero' moments for exterminating (based on HK-47's statement) 97.something percent of the Imperial population *shrug* I dunno, I think that such a confrontation would be an interesting thing to do considering that Troopers, at least, could very well be extremely close to what Revan's trying to do. So, thoughts, opinions?
  12. Mostly minor stuff in the grand scheme of things. IE, Ryloth doesn't have that signature standstill rotation (or if it does, it's not mentioned) and is more like a desert planet. IT was originally gonna be more Mustafar-like, though, when designed but was scrapped for well, looking too much like Mustafar. Really, the inconsistancies are low enough that while definitely bugging, you can overlook it in the end of the day and just shrug it off. The early series is definitely hit-or-miss. Hit? **** the Force awesome. Miss? "Oooh, splat goes a frog-dog; get a cleaner droid!" But by season 4, it's really managed to mature into a great series that's thrown a lot of the annoying (but in some places fine and understandable) kiddie stuff. Actually, one of the episodes I really liked (aside from the idiot-plot set up), 'Lightsaber Lost', had a serious kid vibe to it but also served as a great chance to work on one of the TCW characters, in this case Ahsoka
  13. Its your choice. There's no mechanical difference other than maybe some affection with Jorgan that I know of.
  14. That's exactly what GL had to convince them of, actually. That Anakin and Obi-wan can't visit Mustafar because of their eventual duel there. Anyways; here's something I picked up on. In the Codex for TOR, it explains the Republic uses "sir" for a military honorific regardless of gender/species/etc because of the vast diversity of the military. In TCW, the Clones always use 'Sir', even when talking to female Jedi. Intentional minor collaboration, possibly?
  15. IIRC, Lucas was involved personally in a number of episodes, like the Mortis arc. And in season 2, one of the extras had Dave Filoni explaining that they were really hesitent about using Mustafar when Lucas suggested it and he had to convince them that it was a mining operation before Sidious planted the CIS Council there and so Anakin stumbling in there briefly wouldn't be a big deal.
  16. Which suddenly makes The Clone Wars having all the clones refer to the female Jedi as "sir" make a huge amount of sense... do you think BioWare was working with the TCW crew for that piece of trivia, or at least asked them if they had that in mind (or vice versa)? It seems like one of those small details BioWare would put attention to.
  17. You refering to Kiros at the end of the 'Slaves of the Republic' arc? Ahsoka's from Shili, not Kiros. I don't even think the planet was touched by the battles of the Clone Wars.
  18. I agree, they should put into the romances some polite rejection-but-I-am-interested-in-a-relationship type dialogue, IE Male Trooper: "Elara, I have feelings for you too, but I'm not sure if this is the best time to be following up on them while I'm your superior officer. I hope that we can one day, but now is just not the time..." (and for a more joking add-on:) "Besides, we don't need to feed the tabloids any more fodder; Vik is already trying to feed them some." Male Consular: "You are much more than a padawan to me, Naida, but as your master I must excercise a certain distance. Not for your failings, but for my responsibilities as your teacher. Perhaps some day in the future, when the role of master and apprentice have long since faded to fellow Jedi." With variations, IE, you need to think on it some more/make sure your willing to commit/think through it. This is realistic, and allows a polite turn down that keeps the romance open, particularly for opening it up later on. So say, after level 50 and you've won the war (just being proverbial), you can then ask Elara. Depending on your turn down, it can either be you're now sure or you can say that you're sure on the feelings, and ask if they're still mutual. Really, the romances could be a lot more complex, but we gotta understand that they have to keep them somewhat simple for gameplay's sake.
  19. I had this issue when I PUG'd with a commando for storming Castle Panteer to get Ulgo. He chose to kill him, my Trooper wanted to spare him so he could be brought up for war crimes and all that jazz. Since its a team quest, they really should add snark/didn't like the idea lines. IE, "He would of been brought in alive, but trigger finger here shot him" But yeah, I don't blame you. The dice system works well for multiplayer, but in major incidents like these dice has its limits, but its better than it being who ever clicks/types the fastest or first
  20. Heck, is the Sith Warrior's 'noble' family even touched on at all at any point besides backstory? Anyways, Jorgan makes mention of being happy to show your kids, if your character winds up having any, around a blaster rifle (when they're old enough ), and Elara mentions offering medical training to them. I assume that, if your not in a romance/same gender (ATM), they do it more in the 'babysitter/family friend' type of way. (IE, "Uncle" Jorgan's going to be babysitting you.)
  21. Yeah. I personally dabbled with the idea of Rex going rogue with Ahsoka at Order 66 and some other Clone Troopers and do a bit of Kota's Militia style hit-and-run against the Empire (maybe drag the Twilight out of impoundment or something for a ship) before being hunted down. Or Rex just leaving after Order 66 from guilt and taking a few 501st members with him and go the way of Cut Laquane (sp), trying to live their own lives instead of just being stuck there. And yeah, the show has gotten a lot more darker and more mature, which I like a lot. I don't mind the light-hearted episodes, it's good to get away from the doom and gloom, but overall I think the mature direction is the best way to take it. They tried for it being more kiddie, but I think after the first two seasons they realized that the kid angle really doesn't work considering it's in the Clone Wars. TBH, I wouldn't mind a good extension of the series if they have good plots to do/run if they keep up this mature angle that they've built up in late Season 3/Season 4. It really works for the show.
  22. You can buy Rank I/II ones at the Republic Fleet, but higher ones? You need a mission skill, IE, Underworld Trading or Diplomacy, which earn you some gifts, though the type can vary wildly (albiet some have a certain theme, so read through the descriptions and observe what comes from different ones). Though... being Dark Side does NOT help your chances of getting affection from her at all... she's easily the most light sided member of Havoc Squad (Not counting the PC).
  23. "Liberating is what I do best... next to blowing things up." (as the 'good' response) "We'll call it;" (Turian Airquotes) "'Operation Machine Rescue'" (/Turian Airquotes) "Good thing I'm no Jedi." (in context of taking out The Mountain) The Trooper does NOT lack comedic moments, trust me. Albiet a good amount of the snark comes from your companions, but still...
  24. Maybe the (light side) Smuggler is bringing some Force Sensitives to the planet or doing something for the Jedi? IIRC, by the end of their arc the Light Side smuggler in particular is pretty much Han Solo to the Republic. Troopers... you can always justify that as someone knowing that when the Jedi take command a la the Clone Wars in a renewed Galactic War with the Empire, the Jedi will need military training. Force Powers =/= maturity/ability to lead. The Trooper could be going there to train some Jedi in command techniques and possibly knock some of them down a peg to kick the arrogence out of them (IE, a Vanguard pwning an arrogant student who thinks the Force automatically makes them superior by fighting them in close quarters, the Jedi's own game). But yeah, it's probably just mechanical for the most part.
  25. Elara won't take courting gifts unless you're romancing her. No idea when that happens mechanically, though. However, you'd be surprised to realize the gifts which get the most from her is actually Luxury items. Seems odd that such a by-the-book soldier would like it, but think about it. She's a by-the-book officer, but when she's off duty she probably enjoys the finer things in life (even if only in a regulation approved way ) She also takes Republic and Imperial memorabilia, IE, the history holos for each side. Other than that, I don't think she really takes anything.
