  1. The concept alone makes the future of this game bleak for some people. It's not what they signed up for and certainly isn't something they would have supported if they knew this would be the outcome. The lack of content, the waiting for basic features... all the while they're developing F2P and a cash shop. It's just a greedy way for EA to bleed the subscribers out of more cash monthly... and for what exactly? Subscribers get an allowance, like a child who gets a buck for the candy store. Good luck if you wanted a soda or chips with your candy bar, (Big daddy EA isn't going to let you have your cake and eat it too just for your sub fee) it'll cost you. Also, have fun sitting on the fleet more... waiting to spend your precious cartel coins because their resources went towards this and not anything that will provide people with something meaningful to do when you hit that magical level 50. This game is great for those that have limited amount of time to play. If you want a captivating, immersive, entertaining game at max level it's not here and won't be for months if not years assuming EA still finds it profitable to keep it minimally staffed and running that long. I personally don't want to support the implementation of F2P or this game any longer than I have. I feel like a fool looking back, that I kept believing that they were doing the best they could and they would finally give the players something other than what was expected at launch with a little fluff.... The announcement of F2P and more fluff for players in a cash shop soon™ was a giant slap in the face for a lot of people who have diligently played and paid since December.
  2. At this point F2P and a cash shop represents a complete shift in the vision for this game. Not one that some can adopt due to their preferences and past experiences. Many have waited for quality content at end game. Many waited for merges off of dead servers. Many watched while they ruined their valor system and then decided to put all that World PvP junk on the back burner. Many waited a full patch for rated warzones after being told the day before 1.2 was slated to hit, it wouldn't be included. Many know that the sharp decline in the Austin staff won't be helping them bring any new content to us any sooner. Many read the views of Bioware around launch and you can tell this isn't what was suppose to happen to this game and it has not delievered in many ways. Many can clearly see how much this project means to EA and where it's heading now. They've put so much effort into retaining old subs and getting new subs that they really haven't given their hard core base anything... the lack of diverse, fun, and engaging content @ 50 specifically is why people haven't stuck around. The people that have supported this game from the get go were never appreciated and somehow Bioware/EA believes that offering them content in the form of a cash shop with a weekly allowance is what subscribers want... it's just insulting. I've teetered with the thought of cancelling my sub over the past few months but this was the tipping point. The bang for your buck isn't there... especially not when you don't trust the judgement or new vision of the people behind the scenes and have already waited long enough to only see basic changes made recently with no real improvements made with-in this game that actually have an effect on how you play it day to day.
  3. And when it's F2P your box sale alone is what will get you access to enjoy the best part of the game with slight restrictions... as long as EA feels like SWTOR is profitable. I don't trust where this game is going. For months I've wondered what direction things would take... after painfully waiting for merges and 1.3 giving us no actual playable content... I feel like it's a slap in face to any loyal customer who has been here from the beginning. They can choose to develop what they want but when I look at the history of what has happened so far in this game it's depressing... They consistantly do things the easy way, break more than they fix, and are really out of touch with what the paying customers wanted. They chose to ignore their subscribers by wasting development time on something that is only giving them more fluff content for cartel coins! I wish they wouldn't have pretended they could provide us with a quality subscription based MMO and turn around less than a year later when the game still feels like it's in beta churning out basic features.... all the while developing a F2P model and making a system to bleed more $ out of anyone who hasn't slipped off their rose colored shades yet. Playing the core of this game from 1-50 is good, end game and what they've done behind the scenes since launch is anything but.
  4. Why do you think they didn't stay above a million after how many box sales they had? Because over half of the people that did decided to buy a box and leveled to 50... realized that this game has minimal content at level 50. I recall not wanting to hit 50 several times because that's when the "fun" ended. I've got 4 50's with no real desire to continue doing the content which involves simplistic PvE, PvP that usually amounts to a frustrating stun fest and dailies that are already too crowded, too few and just boring with no real fun rewards except for credits. While they've been spending time and resources to implement legacy cash sinks, F2P and a cash shop, they've been depriving anyone who has supported this game from REAL content.
  5. Oh, I won't! If I felt this game was anywhere near where they should have been back in December... today, I wouldn't mind development of this kind. Fact is the content is lacking and they are in no place to bring out new content at a cost to the players who have a subscription and have been through all the bs this game has offered up until this point. The actual game is great up to 50! (Enjoyable content after that is lacking in many ways), the people running/ruining it... don't have a clue what the players want and I don't think ever will.
  6. http://www.joystiq.com/2011/12/28/bioware-docs-defend-subscription-model-tease-free-to-play-itera Considering this was their stance on F2P after launch, I think they've lied or are extremely off course. Either way I won't support anymore development of real or in-world cash sinks while waiting for actual quality content at end game.
  7. My $15 bucks over the past few months has gotten me server access to a video game that has: Borked it's valor system in an effort to "fix" what is now non existant world pvp Nerfed a class I loved Infuriated many with no ranked warzones in 1.2 Let a lot of players sit on dead servers for far too long while they got merges figured out Brought out a basic feature like group finder and legacy fluff as the exciting new stuff in its last relevant patch All the while working on this diligently no doubt. The rakhghoul plague event was the most immersive, cool, unique thing they've done imo and that wasn't around very long. No repeat either naw they're too busy with F2P prepping and new cartel coins stuff! Allowing F2P to 50 changes the dynamics of the game completely and including micro transactions... considering EA is behind it.. scares me. They aren't going F2P to 50 in their first year out of the goodness of their hearts. Congrats if you buy into it... I'm just not anymore and won't be. Hopefully they've got some hidden awesome content for people who have subscribed from day 1 or before.... that doesn't all involve a cartel coin cost. But I think we all know F2P soon™ will be eating away at more development time before it launches which only means more quality content amirite? People can play how they want to and obviously they've decided to not save the best for last. I've been under the assumption this was a subscription based MMO (silly me) and won't play it when these options are what they choose to waste development time on. Old article from 12/28/11 good read on their thoughts back then... I think there's some pretty ironic stuff in there considering what has happened with F2P and the austin staff. http://www.joystiq.com/2011/12/28/bioware-docs-defend-subscription-model-tease-free-to-play-itera
  8. Nice, I'm glad they can cater to the players that want to enjoy it at their leisure. Fact of the matter is the people who play like that aren't really looking to play an MMO, join a guild, be part of anything. They won't support the game financially except for the box sale and they'll lag it up and make questing/dailies even more impossible. That's assuming more people will be swayed to play a subscription based MMO that's not even a year old and is going F2P already. This move will alienate a large percentage of players who came into this game looking for a subscription based MMO. People who have paid every month since launch. People who feel burned that a game that's so lacking in content and has been so slow at bringing the basics to us has been using its resources for the purpose of implementing a free to play option to level 50... and along with that a convenient way to milk people out of more than their subscription with a little fluff.
  9. Always be who you are, not what Bioware wants you to be
  10. That's my main gripe, people waited for ranked warzones, they waited for merges, they've waited for a new world event to happen, I've waited enough for you to develop your in world and real world cash sinks and I don't want to support whatever is going on here anymore.
  11. If this game came out as F2P I wouldn't have bothered with it. If someone told me in 8 months down the road it'd be done... I wouldn't have bothered with it. I don't care if it's a smart business model. Content and development of it in this game is sub-par. They have ruined open world pvp. They pulled the plug on ranked warzones a day before 1.2 hit. They took way too long letting people sit on dead servers before they merged them. The most recent things they've put any effort into developing is Legacy and this F2P Model. Both of which are insulting to players who want meaningful endgame content.
  12. I'm glad you can play casually and not pay. I'm resentful that I've supported this mess and the development of ruining Ilum, legacy, server merges, and now the new cartel market.... which will end up being nothing more than a REAL LIFE cash sink to attain the items.. I was pissed off enough at the in game cash sinks. The content is great for a casual player who simply doesn't have the time to play the game. When you have depleted it multiple times over it's the same old ****. Leveling is like space combat and end game is extremely simplistic. This is why people left, this is why they said they would come back for a F2P model because the current content is not worth $15 a month. To me it's just a ploy for more box sales, and an attempt to bleed the actual subscribers out of more than their subscription fee for content in a game where there's just not enough content to keep people truly entertained in the first place.
  13. Honestly they haven't, after what they've done to Ilum, what they've done with ranked warzones, how they repeatedly shoot themselves in the foot with EA saying they don't give a daym about this game anymore... most likely because there just isn't enough $ for them to care. Being/Getting to 50 is repetitive and boring with no real fun rewards for you efforts... Legacy isn't anything I've ever wanted and it seems back when there were people in the Austin office a lot of efforts went into it and it's just not all that great. Where's a new world event? Where's the aspects of this game that make it immersive? Where and when do I feel my character is truly unique in their story line... or with their light/dark decisions? I don't feel they have delivered in a lot of ways and the rounds of layoffs aren't a good sign of things to come. I believed when I began looking forward to launch that EA and Bioware were amazing companies and this game would be quality. I feel burned and so very wrong and now I don't feel that my money will be going towards any of their products in the future... not even a sims 4 pet edition could sway me to support them. Good day to you, apologies for the d-bag comment as well.
  14. Thanks and good luck to you as well.... if you happen to play on DPB you Sir can haz my stuff.
  15. Yeah if only someone could have warned me that this train wreck would be happening back in December... I wouldn't have even bothered to buy a new computer to play this game and then have a d-bag say good riddance to me when I finally give up all hopes and accept this game is going so much farther down than I could have ever imagined. I'm not happy by an means that I've cancelled, but thanks for your kind words... keep them rose colored glasses on and enjoy buying your cartel coins.
  16. Jeff Hickman, Executive Producer of Star Wars: The Old Republic added, “Since launch, we’ve been listening to feedback from our fans and adding new content and refining The Old Republic at a breakneck pace. We believe we are in a position to help improve the service even more, not only by continuing to add new content, but also by expanding the game to many more Star Wars fans, increasing the populations on worlds and the vibrancy of the community.” If you listened to your fans you wouldn't be so delusional as to believe a F2P model is going to fix anything. I find the content rate no where near "breakneck pace" and I don't think it's going to get any better thanks to EA and the poor Austin staff that has been let go/decided to leave left and right. I was going to log in to do a few rounds of PvP but seeing as no one left working on this game has any clue whats going on or what the fans actually want and enjoy... I'll be cancelling now. Good bye. No you can't haz my stuff, it's mine and I'll let it rot where it is.
  17. Maybe free to play is a good thing for some people. Not me. I paid $15 a month for seven years to play WoW and what I expected back in December was to do the same with SWTOR. That's over a thousand dollars of my money that was well spent on WoW when I look back on it, and I can't say the same for what I've spent so far to play SWTOR. I can't see myself playing a F2P MMO with the current content we've been given and having the desire to pay real money for more content when it's so extremely lacking in the first place. F2P screams all sorts of fail to me and for the topic to be so prevalent, so soon is an awful sign of things to come for this game. EA will end up putting the final nail in the coffin if they go F2P, I hope there's enough people with rose colored glasses who have deep pockets for them to milk more moolah out of at this point because... I just don't think my $ will be supporting this game long term, not for what it is now or what it will become.
  18. When a message sucks... it sucks. We shouldn't have been privy to this information but we are. It's too bad this is the kind of information we DO get and probably shouldn't... yet any information about improving this game is kept so hush hush... oh wait yeah a new droid... not feeling it. 1.3 consisted of group finder, worthless legacy additions that are just cash sinks and ranked warzones for 8vs8 only. Not impressed. While DarthOvertones initial reaction was to bork Julia. Mine was to slap John. I feel like an idiot playing this game sometimes. I question its future and the direction it has taken in past few months. The only good thing that has been done since 1.2 are server merges (yeah that's right merges) and that was even done months too late. They can pretend they're giving us a quality product but the bang for our buck just isn't there and it's not going to get any better with the way things have been going in Austin.
  19. It's actually "old story" but it sounds very similar and not much better either. That's obvious because as a player this leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Why does **** like this keep popping up? Are they trying to sabotage themselves? I understand this isn't an important thing to EA, that this "project" doesn't look so great at the moment, but they are making it worse by letting people see just how little it does mean with things like this interview, mentions of free to play and the dwindling Austin staff....
  20. Development of this game has been behind since launch. Basic features that should have already been in the game and fluff cash sinks (Legacy is really not all that) are about all we've been getting, not a whole lot more. I don't know exactly what the vision is or will be in the future, but with the sheer amount of people dropping off of this project by choice or not doesn't bode well. You can say good riddance to X,Y, and Z because you think they weren't doing a good job and you believe a change will represent a good thing, but there's no guarantee that something better will actually happen at this point. I've gotten the impression that a lot of people didn't really care about the game behind the scenes... that they were disconnected in a way from the players and they lacked the real vision (or desire) to make this game fun, to make a player feel as though they are achieving something useful for their time and it shows in the product we play today. I don't know if they have the ability to step it up or if they'll even have the man power and foresight to get this game going in a better direction again. I'd like to see this game succeed but with all the bad press and word of mouth from gamers, EAware isn't doing themselves any favors lately. I bought into the hype and I'm still here playing and enjoying the game for the most part, but I just don't think what has happened to this game was intended or could have even been anticipated in December. Good luck Rich, and good luck to everyone else left picking up the pieces.
  21. Agreed, I also don't enjoy the idea of farming dailes in a lag infested are to obtain these "perks" either. Nothing is ever free. I assumed that Legacy levels might mean something... but all it represents atm is unlocks that I'll never utilize because I can't afford them. The sheer amount of cash sinks in this game are becomming atrocious. The amount of effort to obtain these through credits simply doesn't equal the actual advantage given in most cases. The thought of giving Legacy perks to individual characters is a hard one for me to swallow as well. Legacy advantages should be for everyone across it, individual perks shouldn't be part of the equation and just represent another bad cash sink. If farming credits for Legacy perks at nausem is what's going to be required, they really should think again. It's not fun or practical for endgame in anyway and isn't worth the time invested for most players to achieve the rewards provided from them.
  22. This ^ I'd be part of the crowd that that will cancel and uninstall if SWTOR goes F2P and I personally will never purchase another EA/Bioware product again if it does. This game could have been amazing... but keep doing as little as possible in this games infancy when it was released unfinished and there's so much to be corrected/done/added still. Then let it leak we're looking at F2P and there might be micro transactions and blah-di-dah, the press and word of mouth from the unsatisfied customers you have/had are going to eat you alive to the point of a F2P game because you've completely failed at communicating with us and you can not provide an enjoyable MMO. I thought I'd enjoy this game for years to come but it's turned out to be a source of frustration that I'm paying for.
  23. It's definately exhausting, I feel like everything I've accomplished with my characters is on hold because I can't participate in an MMO experience on my current server. With transfers looming my characters are displaced and just waiting for their "real home". I've gotten a pink slip before (last one to technically be hired on before they decided to downsize) and the company I was with dished them out with ample warning to everyone the same day. Oddly, they begged me to stay after I told them I found another job but my point is... that's the proper way to do it. Inform everyone whats happening long term and let them plan accordingly. Don't string them along and wait for the axe like in your example above. Although waiting for a transfer (considered a poisitive thing mostly) is a teeny bit different than waiting to get canned (bad juju all around). If they keep going down the same path they've been following for the past six months... there will be more merges in the future regardless of the metrics they come up with this weekend.
