  1. Well, if 45m is OP? Does 40m work? I think that we can already get 40m range with that one set of PvP gear right? (I haven't researched it much yet, but I thought it was a set bonus on one of the orange sets.) So the question is... What could they increase our range to in order to offset all our drawbacks? (If increasing our range would help at all that is.)
  2. Before you say no, give it some serious thought. Go play for a day in PvP battles, and as you're playing imagine how the battles would have panned out if you had another 10 or 15m of distance to toy with in range? Imagine where you 'would' setup on the battlefield and if that would help mitigate our drawbacks. So I've been thinking about it recently. And yes we have a lot of drawbacks. And it doesn't seem like the 'perks' quite add up well enough to offset all the drawbacks. The devs had to have realized this while they were creating us, so they had to have added something to us to make us really stand out. Some big perk that we're supposed to get that would offset all these negatives... I think that they intended for the extra 5m of range to really give us an advantage on the playing field. What I don't think they realized is that you can cover 5m of distance in about .5 seconds. Less if you have sprint, even less if you have force speed abilities. So the question is, if they increased our range to say... 45m... would that make us viable in PvP? At least that way you could sit way off in the back of a fight, avoid notice, and do what you're supposed to do... snipe people. And then if someone notices you, at least they have to push through the front lines, and come get you.
  3. I guess that is the tricky situation that BW has to deal with then. Figuring out who really is UP. And who is OP. Do you buff the UP people? Or do you nerf the OP ones. I wish it was my job to sit around and figure this problem out. But alas, it is not. Tricksy hobbitss
  4. Heh. "Self rooting" I'd like to see someone make a comic or something with the following: Frame 1: All 8 sith classes standing side by side, ready for battle. Frame 2: A starting bell goes off, *ding*ding*ding! The other 7 sith classes all start shooting, cloaking, and running towards the enemy. The sniper stands there. Frame 3: The sniper shoots himself in the leg tumbling to the floor. Frame 4: Then he proceeds to get his rifile out.
  5. This makes me sad to hear. My main is a sniper. Queue laughter. Yes yes. I know. I always manage to pick the worst PvP classes in MMO's. It's my super power. So I'm about to hit 50 with my sniper and I'm looking for an alt to roll. I loved the idea of an assassin PvP tank. So I got him to about level 15 when I realized that my super power (picking terrible PvP classes) was probably kicking in again. And surprise. I look on the forums and the first thread I read is telling me that rolling an assassin tank in PvP is a no go. ;P Thank you for saving me another 50 levels of disappointment. After the sniper I don't think I could have handled another flop like that. Now I guess I have to choose between the juggernaut and the powertech. Off to the forums!
  6. Just another in the long list of 'CONS' to add to the 'Why Snipers Suck' list.
  7. No. Wrong. Off topic. I appreciate your love, being that I'm sure you've killed my kind hundreds of times on the battle field. And I appreciate that you acknowledge our need for some tweaking. <3 But the question here is... do all class forums look the same as the sniper class forums? Every thread here devolves into the same argument. One guy says snipers suck, and then another guy says they don't, and the thread derails from there. Does every class forum look like this?
  8. Is every class forum like this? Every thread devolving into a 'our class sucks' vs 'well I can play it so you just suck' argument?
  9. There are just too many 'cons' and not enough 'pros' to make the sniper a viable choice. I could list all the 'cons', but I think you can probably find those on your own, just read the forums for an hour or so. Sure people can point to some little 'pros' that we have. But in the end, the 'cons' are so numerous and large that it would take lots of large 'pros' to balance things out. And in the current state, we have lots of little 'pros' that just don't cut it. And in the end, it doesn't matter how many 'pros' and 'cons' people do or don't find. If you want proof of the sniper's lack of competitiveness, just look at the number of sniper's you see in PvP. If the class was viable, you'd see more of them, bottom line. The community IS voting, and the sniper sucks. Not to mention, the sniper has one of the best story lines that I've heard about so far. Chapter 1 is good, and chapter 2 is really good. You'd think that this would be enough of a draw to bring people in to play this class, but it isn't. In the end they realize that they can just play as an operative and get the same class quest, not suck at PvP, and if they get tired of being DPS, they can just respec and be a healer! I eagerly await the upgrade of the sniper. But I have been around the block enough to know that I shouldn't sit around and wait for them to make me happy. I will be rolling an alt as soon as I hit 50. Hopefully when the sniper population hits an all time low they will make us a priority.
  10. I always MVP the person's name that I see in green letters above my head. The healers and tanks are what make or break a team. I want to make them better. Also, for those of you who aren't MVP voting at all... We are all on a team, you'll win more games if your allies are stronger.
  11. I appreciate your effort OP. You attempt to find a concrete way of measuring a player's skill level in PvP. The problem is that the solution you have offered doesn't fit the bill. I can think of many scenario's where I can focus on getting 'the best numbers for your test' while at the same time allowing my team to fail miserably. The only way to measure an individual's effectiveness for a team is to watch them play. Unless they start adding stats and measurements of actual gameplay skill and strategy... "Got lured away from the point he was defending so he could get three easy kills, he got the kills, but then got cc'd and lost the point he was defending."
  12. So I've been running around for the last couple of days trying to figure out what piece or part or driver or whatever needs to be updated on my computer to give me better performance in game. As I research, I realize that SWTOR doesn't necessarily want 'better hardware' or 'newer drivers'... there are simply certain pieces of hardware and certain drivers that make SWTOR slow or glitchy. This brings me to my question. I'm assuming that Bioware has machines built for their test beds that they test the game out on. And I assume that the game runs perfectly on these machines, even with the (now unavailable to the public) high res textures on. Can someone tell me what the exact specs of these machines are. At least this would get us the exact correct hardware build we need to play smoothly. Adding to that it would be nice if there was a way to get our software perfectly aligned as well, but I don't think that would be possible unless they released an 'image' for us to download and use. ;P I would not be surprised if there are people out there that are willing to buy a whole new machine, and reformat it with an image that Bioware provides. Having a machine with all the right hardware and all the right software exactly... would be enticing...
  13. Talk about a let down. I was finally getting really into the story, and getting really immersed... and then this happens. Cannot see target... sigh.
