  1. I would like to see these studies or talk to the psychologist that did them. would like to know if the studies were about pve or pvp or just a lump collection. from all the years that i have played these games and all the PvPers i have met in them and the ones i know in real life, the best carrot on a stick for them is bragging rights. put in some kind of monthly / weekly leader board that tracks things like 1. most kills stuct/world 2. most wins struct. 3. win % stuct. (with say at least 25 matches for the week) 4. most keep takes / defended also not sure if it is true as, just something i have heard is that in GW2 they will have tournaments on each server and the winners of said tournaments will have a plaque or statue made in game for them. will probably be an area in the capital city or maybe the training area. if anyone could confirm or dismiss this i would appreciate it. in my experience these are the types of things that keep PvP players playing. well as long as the PvP is fun. if it isn't then it really doesn't matter what you do gear progression seems like more of a PvE thing that trickled its way over into PvP. everyone that was progressing in PvE (raids) brought their new toys into PvP to beat up on people. so now the people who got beat up had to go get better gear, and thus the cycle of gear progression for PvP started.
  2. ok you have some good points here, i agree that it would not be good to be able to pay $10 for stats from datacrons, even if they are available to everyone with time, or $10 for skill point via skill challenges in GW2. this however is not how the system works. the items have to be bought with in game currency, and said currency can not be bought from the shop its self (at least to my knowledge). so someone can not just go to the shop and start buying buffs or what not. someone is going to have to put in the time to farm the gold. so i guess the true question is if being able to sell your gold is right or wrong. imo i don't think it is wrong. if someone spent a lot of time farming gold then wants to sell it. what he is really selling is the time it took him to acquire the gold. for example lets say i am playing a game and notice some peeps names, start chatting with them and find out they or some friends from another game. while we are chatting they mention they don't have enough gold to get the guild buffs. well i check by bank and say well hell i have 20 mill. so i give them 15 mill of it so they can get the buffs. so now they have a guild with the buffs but did not earn them. so is this wrong? imo no it was my gold (or time collecting the gold), and by helping out a guild i made our server a little stronger in WvW. now lets say same scenario as above but the guys say "no we cant just take your gold for free, let us give you something in return". so they pitch in and mail me a bottle of my favorite rum (which cost them real money). so does this now make it unethical? once again i say no. they just gave me something for the time i spent collecting the gold, and i am sure as hell not going to turn down a bottle of rum.
  3. this was your reply to a guy saying SWTOR cash shop was going to have buffs/stims for sell. maybe i am reading it wrong but sounds like you would be ok if this was indeed true because the stims/buffs or what not are already accessible in game with game currency? as it has been said this is no different than the GW2 shop as those buffs are bought with in game currency also. sounds a bit like a double standard to me. and before you start on the part you wrote about money being exchanged for credits. there is absolutely no difference between buying items with money or buying in game currency with money. if all items are available with said currency, buying the item directly just cuts out the middle step of real money to in game currency to items.
  4. the point is that all this is made possible from being able to buy gold with real money. this is true in just about any mmo. sanctioned or not it is going to happen. so if someone buying gold to get items faster than others is considered pay to win, then really just about all mmos fall under this category. from a companies point of view allowing in game transactions is a smart move. 1. its going to happen one way or another. 2. if they take a small cut of said transactions its a little more cash in their pocket. (which hopefully goes back into development) 3. keeps people from going to gold sites and getting hacked, this in return means less resources that they would have to put into customer service to inspect and restore all the hacked accounts. again hopefully the money saved by this would go back into development. imo a true P2W would be a game that offers something like gear that can only be bought with real cash. for example lets say Bio decided to put out a new set of PvP gear, but can only be bought from the cash shop. Now that would be P2W.
  5. skolops I think you might be assuming to much about the cash shop. 1st off the buffs are probably going to be pretty cheap and available that there will not be any need to use real money to buy gold to buy influence to buy buffs. 2nd i belive the buffs are bought with influence, which is gained by doing things with/for the guild (such as PvP). influence can be bought with in game currency. from what i understand, in game currency can be traded for real money at the AH. in reality this is already in most mmo games. people go to gold sites buy their gold and then buy what they want in game. so it is really no different than some one buying SWTOR creds from a web site then buying stims off the AH. yes i agree that would be a waist of money considering how easy it is to get stims, however the buffs in GW2 will probably be along the same line of availability. we will just have to see. on a side note, if it is pay to win that worries you i would say SWTOR is already closer to heading that direction. depending on the limit amount it puts on the free players. they already stated that free guys will be limited to number of WZs they can play. so if this limit is to low the free players will never be able to acquire the same gear as the guys that pay. honestly i don't think we will see a play to win in this game or GW2. i think they just know that people will pay real money for vanity items. I mean look at how many pets and mounts Blizzard sold for real money.
  6. make sure your companions AoE abilities are turned off, then sleep dart the enemies companion before opening up on the player.
  7. well you can also run into the other faction on Hoth, Qesh, belsavis, Voss, and corellia. also a small part of nar shaddaa (in the bonus quest area). the main problem is that the quest in these areas rarely cause the factions to cross paths. so while LvLing you would have to go out of your way to find PvP. from what i have seen most are not willing to interrupt their lvling time in hopes to find an enemy. so imo the quest should have been laid out in a manner that caused each side to run into each other by just doing their thing.

    2 CC breaks?

there may have been a dot still on him. i belive this would have broke the mezz
  9. i will agree that the gap from BM to WH is small but from recruit to BM i have to disagree with. looking at the stats on the ops healing set Endurance 1053 - 796 = diff of 257 cunning 985 - 778 = diff of 207 expert 1164 - 896 = diff of 268 over 200 pts each of the top 3 stats for pvp. i wouldnt exactly call that a small gap. then add in that the recruit can not be augmented the gap becomes a little larger.
  10. first off i do think sents/mara or just a little bit over the top. 2nd did you stop to think that this guy might be getting 800k a lot because his dps is low enough that most his damage is being healed through, and probably doing 50k damage to kill a target? i have seen SS of people getting these kind of numbers or better and yet only had like 10 kills. there are 2 pyros that Q together that just destroy **** on my server. don't think i have seen them ever get these kind of numbers cause they focus fire, and what they focus doesnt live long enough for a heal. P.S. i hate these guys they definitely have the kill healer first mentality, and of course i am a healer
  11. great idea. could even place bets on outcome!
  12. lol so what did he expect to go up to a defended node and for you guys to fight him one at a time? as Ron White would say "don't know how many it would take to whoop my *** but I knew how many they were going to use"
  13. interesting build might have to try it out. however think i will take the 2 points out of the the improved blaster whip to get the fight or flight talent.
  14. what are your stats at? just did a little tweeking got surge up some. so my stats are cunning = 1658 exp = 1130 crit = 38.47 surge = 72.68 power = 304 Tech pwr = 1224 used a + power adrenal and +power relic did this a few time and the biggest crit i got was 6888. so not sure how you are getting 6k plus in combat with out adrenals and relic? do i need to tweek the surge more? ok just did the test again, this time adrenal+relic+def screen(15% healing to self) and got a heal for 8k. however in pvp that is still only going to be around 5k with a mara or sniper on you. 100%-30%(trauma)-20%(debuff) + 12%(exp) = 62% total heal
  15. I have found that on my sawbones is that a 1v1 is where they are the weakest. if you get jumped alone while heading to help another objective or on the way back from spawn you are screwed. the strength of a sawbones/ops healer is to have hots rolling on as many people as you can, for the upper hand procs. even if someone isn't hurt get a single hot on them if you have the energy for it. so if you get caught alone stun him and haul *** to your team. also right now the raw power of damage is higher and scales better than healing. I have seen damage hits as high as 8.5k. the best heal i have ever put out is just over 6.4k on my 1.7sec cast. this was in full BM and 2 WH(augmented) and using a + power trinket and adrenal. also this was on the fleet so in PvP it would have been 18% less (trauma+exp) so 5200. about 3970 if you have a sniper or mara on you.
  16. i just logged in and still have my matrix cube. maybe because i didnt have it on atm. it is still setting in my mission item tab of my bags.

    Ravage

while i might think sent/mara are a little over the top i don't think this ability is all that bad. a channel ability should do a lot of damage as these are easier to counter. on my sawbones i almost never get hit with all 3 hits. with all the stuns, KB and mezz in this game i would think it would be kinda hard to get a full channel. if i am in a situation where my mezz or stun are on CD, then i can use my CC breaker and run away from it. if all 3 or on CD then i will use my shield (which as sawbones also increases healing to me). i then cast a heal followed by my fast heal. not sure if they can use interrupt while channeling this as it would probably interrupt his channel. if they can maybe the ones on my server just don't know yet. BTW can this ability miss? was thinking of trying my dodge ability when every thing is on CD but not sure if it would work? so while imo they are a little over the top i don't think it is this ability as much as other things such as the their Def CDs and being hard as hell to kite.

    Buff Operatives

well i didn't read all the post in hear. all i wanted to say is that as a healer i hated operatives pre nerf. after the nerf i can't remember one time that one has been able to open up on me and kill me. unless of course there are 2 of them. the burst just doesn't seem to be there anymore and i can get away and get healed back up pretty easy. of course there aren't as many as there use to be, so maybe the real goods quit, rerolled or whatever. just don't know much about dps ops/scoundrel. stealth classes seem to be one of those that even a small adjustment here or there could throw **** out of whack. so not sure what could be done.
  19. to be fair though in WoW healers are a lot harder to kill. at least they were when i played it not sure how it is now. they had better abilities to def themselves. i had a shammy and a druid healer and yes shammy was very strong and the druid was like playing a demigod. ok back to this game. i don't think OP was talking only about interrupts but more about all the abilities that can be used as such. i have 5 on my shadow. 1. interrupt 2.stun 3.knockdown(stun) 4.knockback 5.pull
  20. funny part is that someone in BW PvP department has probably written all these down to take to his boss.
  21. probably be easier to put in dual spec and allow peeps to change as long as match hasn't started.
  22. i belive roots/snares are the only forms of CC that dont fill resolve
  23. also i noticed alot of snipers and gunslingers in this thread. only bring this up cause this bug has never happen to me but it happens to a gunslinger friend of mine all the time. I wounder if cover mechanic or something makes them more susceptible. another one he gets every now and then is when he dies then respawns he is stuck in crouch position, but will not let him use any of his cover abilities. do any of you guys get that one as well?
  24. i belive this is the one that can befixed by hitting ctrl+u 2 times.

    Warzone Balance

i think the only way they could fix this is make it so that when the Q pops, it doesn't load anyone into the WZ till all 8 players on each side have accepted the Q. if 2 peeps don't accept then it picks the next to guys and waits for them to accept.
