  1. Seriously? Cathar is what we're getting? Anything else? How can you mess up playable species in a STAR WARS game? There's so many to choose from and they consistently choose wrong.
  2. Just one? I've got a whole list. One of the most well known ones is that Pokemon games in Japan have casinos. Go to places like the US and suddenly they have Voltorb flip (more of a mathematics puzzle).
  3. Gambling in games is a touchy issue that changes from country to country. Since they won't likely give multiple methods due to having countries with different standards and laws and requirements I doubt they'd bother.
  4. Everyone is always talking about community. The community or lack of is a symptom of a bigger problem.
  5. Character development, specifically your companions, really is worse than ever in SWTOR. I felt more attachment and development in the first TOR. These companions are lifeless and rarely speak. When they show life it happens so rarely in between lots of nothing that it makes them lose whatever gains they had. KOTOR started it and it was good. Mass Effect really perfected it (almost). SWTOR seems like a largely backwards step when it comes to companions.
  6. I wouldn't say KOTOR was "the best". It was great certainly. Among the top. But I agree with the general idea. KOTOR was awesome. KOTOR 2 wwas.... not as good but still decent. SWTOR... too stretched. Too little quality story content filled with fillers. Plus it's basically not taking any risks and going the "WoW route" which while that MMO style used to be awesome it's by now overused and overdone.
  7. I unsubbed. In the end I just realized it wasn't worth it to me to play through 90% filler to reach the 10% goodness. I realized these past few weeks where I barely did anything in game that I didn't really miss it. I do want to experience the rest of the story and think it's a shame I'll miss out but the cost is too high. The carrot on a stick mentality and the filler just doesn't work on me the way it used to. I think years of WoW really killed MMOs for me and if this game came out back then it would blow it out of the water and I'd be having a blast. But times change. Tastes change. I can't do it anymore. I hope MMOs evolve soon. And I know it's unrealistic to expect there to be nothing but goodness but I do think it's pretty possible. I mean, I've put hundreds of hours or more into a few non-MMOs that just had gameplay that was so fantastic I kept playing and playing. These games would be stuff like Pokemon (seriously, MMO this thing stupid Nintendo...) which I put in like 1000 hours in the first generation alone and there's 5 generations now and it's a single player game (mostly). Some FPS games I've put a lot of time into. Battlefield 1942, Team Fortress 2, both Left 4 Deads. If MMOs want to get rid of grind they have to stop it with this cookie cutter MMO style (basically WoW-ish) and put in some killer gameplay. If the "fillers" of swtor were actually FUN like any number of great games out there that many people can spend ridiculous amounts of time playing then they'd be set. Writing 1000 hours of story is likely impossible but making ridiculously fun gameplay is NOT. Sadly, swtor's gameplay does not make up for it's filler. It's PvP is decent but honestly there's a LOT of better PvP in other games. It's single player filler missions are... bleh and a heck of a lot of games do better there. I think the next great MMO will have a mix. A great story that doesn't overfill or stretch. Yes, that might mean it doesn't last as long however fill that will "filler" which doesn't suck. Mix it with amazing gameplay in singleplayer/multiplayer and PvP.
  8. Anyone who thinks the motivations and explanations for him going to the darkside were enough without him being batpoo insane is just wrong and doesn't know writing. In the end of the only viable reason that he went to the dark side is that he has some kind of mental disorder. Anakin is seriously just insane. He's mentally unstable. That's why he fell so easily.
  9. I don't think calling story interested people "casual" is accurate. More like anti-pointless grind.
  10. The truth is most of these filler missions feel like those "bandits stole my wagon! kill 15 of them!"... Voices don't help make boring stories better. There are countless missions which send me to go fix something, kill someone or whatever that's just as pointless as other MMOs. Then they hide the kill X/X in the bonuses for missions. It's really basically the same for the filler quests as any other MMO.
  11. My concerns aren't with server population or anything like that... it's... Basically, when I play this game I can have fun. However, the game seems so thin on quality content. I like good story. However the story is thin. Literally. It's like the main class story and a bit of the other stories are good and all. But then the majority are stories that are "filler" or stories that aren't that good and are put in simply to give you something to do. They usually don't add anything to the experience or story. And they get quite old. I spacebar through them. There's no point to these stories except to give you more and more to do.... and it REALLY feels like it. I feel like I'm on a world that's a series of islands in a vast desert. Most of the time I'm wandering the desert, being surrounded by filler and bored but occasionally I get to an oasis (a class story, a good "filler") and all is good. But then I'm off to do a lot of boring filler missions in between these islands. So basically, I'm not having the most fun much of the time and it feels a bit like a grind. Story is supposed to mask grind. These supporting unimportant stories usually don't. I mean how many times can I go fix someone's gear or kill X/X things or whatever? These parts of the game are designed specifically to lengthen the experience and inhibit the quality. They're stories that are mundane and nobody in their right mind would write outside of an MMO (for the most part, some are fine). So that's really my beef. The story is good but it's spread so thin. The good experiences are stretched to the limit. If you just piled the class stories on top of each other and the occasional good filler the game's experience would be 20x better. Though admittedly probably 20x shorter which is a problem for an MMO. Still... This coupled with the fact that I really want to enjoy doing alts however doing that same group of filler is boooorrrring. The class episodes and occasional non-class mission again, great. But there's so much obvious "we made it to lengthen the gameplay" in between it makes it sooo painful. Then leveling on Warzones or.... space (lol) isn't quite up there in diversity of gameplay (need more maps and mods like Capture the Flag... why do MMOs usually have the SMALLEST selection of this stuff?) or fun (I'd more likely play an FPS or something that's designed to be constantly fun in multiplayer). That aaand my job is making me play more rarely.... I'm on the fence still. Dunno if I'll do it. I've been on the fence for all of SWTOR. $15 a month....
  12. I guess. The Star Wars original trilogy are my favorite movies. I haven't really liked any Star Wars nearly as much since then. The Prequels range from bad (Episode I) to just a decent flick (Episode III). None are legendary. The Clone Wars TV show is clearly made for children and really lacks an level of depth or quality. EU mostly doesn't interest me because half of it is just bad and much of the rest is ridiculous. As for people saying franchises this big are basically immortal, you're wrong. Though obviously Star Wars won't die any time soon I wouldn't call any franchise immortal. There have been previous hugely popular franchises throughout history that were ridiculously successful and if you mentioned them today most people wouldn't know anything about them.
  13. I don't mind that they're rare. What I mind is that some of the other more ridiculous colors are so common. Then black/color combinations are kind of stupid looking and should be rarer...
  14. GM corruption. Bioware needs to get on top of this and respond.
  15. You didn't read the thread as your replies make no sense.
  16. My 42 has exactly 0 social points. I can't group.
  17. Does the voice work really add that much to the game and how does it impact the story? Is the story, either way, even that good? Does the voice work really add that much to the game? I'm personally not sure. Voicework is always good however I get the feeling it's potentially negatively affecting the potential of the game with so many resources going towards the voicework. It sounds like the voicework was a huge portion of the budget and might continue to be. Does it more than make up for what this game could have had if those resources were put elsewhere? Voices DO add to the game. I'll give them that. However, how much do they add? Well the voicework doesn't matter if the story sucks. Does the story suck? Honestly, some of it does. The class stories are fine. Some of the side stories are good too. However like any MMO there's almost countless "filler" stories embedded into the almost countless missions in the game. "Filler" in my opinion is usually bad. These are stories that just aren't relevant. They don't advance anything, they don't give relevant information. They're there to take up your time and hopefully entertain you enough for it to not matter. Sometimes fillers can be good. Most of the time they're bad. I just don't care or get investedin random stories about something so irrelevant to the larger picture. I'd compare it to anime (sorry non-anime fans). Naruto and Naruto Shippuden have stories which in my opinion are decent. This anime is based on a Manga and the anime is made faster than the Manga so when the Anime starts catching up to the Manga they stall for time in the form of fillers. These fillers the vast majority of the time are stories which don't advance any plots outside of the filler, often don't advance the characters or really offer anything relevant. Sometimes they're good. Most of the time they're bad. They're put in there for the sake of stalling and weren't written with the overall story in mind and feel forced much of the time. The fillers in SWTOR act in the same way but for a different reason. They need to stretch out the gameplay as long as possible. YOu have the class stories, which are often the BEST stories in the game. They're even, dare I say, good. However they don't last long enough for an MMO so in between they throw in fillers galor. These fillers act as stuff to do to lenghen your leveling. Most of these stories are irrelevant. The bigger picture is gone. They might offer occassional insights but really mean nothing. You can skip most of them and be perfectly content. The stories in here are also just plain not that good most of the time. At least compared to the main stories in this game. They feel like fillers. After countless children saved, random objects fixed, random NPCs killed in the name to keep some unknown NPCs nobody cares for I really start to stop caring. Basically since most missions are almost fillerish I don't care. Since I don't care I've started space buttoning through their conversations. Voice work just can't save these stories. They're just not that interesting. I don't space button through class missions or the rare filler which perks my interests. However I'll explain what the story so far feels like... It feels like a decent story, maybe much more than decent. However it feels stretched beyond reason. In between doing any single good class story missions I do a poo-ton of useless "gotta go get this d00d's deed" or "gotta rescue these strangely ugly children" missions. I mean imagine watching the Star Wars original trilogy and every 20 minutes they take a break to go off on some unrelated adventure to fix 3 Moister farms, kill 20 sandpeople, help this kid escape from a bully or whatever. It would not feel that good. Some story mediums do well with filler. I mean the new it thing is story arcs that go on forever. However episodic content can be done really well too (which I would say SWTOR is more episodic with an enlarged overly stretch couple of arcs). BUT the reason this doesn't work for STO is that most of the fillers aren't particularly interesting. "Oh noes my I left my book in my computer go get it!" "you got it thanks bye!". Also compaions add almost nothing to all these fillers. They're soulless and almost never talk in most missions. There's no character advancement of you or your companions because you've got the same canned answers you give over and over and again, your companions don't talk in like 95% of missions which means they can't develop during these stories and can't grow and act as living mannequins 99% of the time they're around me. Occassionally I hear a random sentence or two but not much. Again, compaions feel streeetched way beyond the limits. They grow slow. They talk rarely. They feel like they're not even there much of the time. I would compare the story telling to the awesome Knights of the Old Republic and Mass Effect games (up until the weird ME3 ending ;p). The presentation and stories were just amazing. My companions weren't silent too much (I could always use more words but they had enough). Characters grew. The "fillers" weren't too exhaustive and heck, even mostly optional. These felt real. They weren't stretched. I would say SWTOR feels like they took basically enough story for a single player game and stretched it into an MMO. You can compress the good stories, the compainon's talking, etc and get probably a quality thing right there. However as it is the thing is just stretched to oblivion. Fillers and lackluster stories are everywhere. I mean I basically am somewhat bored with the story until I reach the next main one. A single Mass Effect companions has more soul than all the SWTOR companions combined (perhaps minus a few of the good ones like Vette and not counting DLC ME characters). I'm not sure if this is because these companions are just worse or because of the stretching effect making me rarely hear from them. SWTOR's story does not feel on par with any of Bioware's previous stories. I know it might be unrealistic to expect a Mass Effect quality story from an MMO since MMOs are so much larger. However, I don't feel like it's gotten So how does this relate to voice work? The voie work is good. There's no doubt about it. However I question if it's taken up too many resources that could have gone to make the rest of the game better. Could they have hired more writers to write even better stories to lessen "filler pains"? If we didn't have voice work could the playable species have been less "human with random skin color or horns"? Could the gameplay have been better? Could the story have been better? I can't help but wonder. As good as the voice work is and as fun as it can be (in the right missions) is it truly worth it if it potentially costs sooo much? I don't see how it couldn't take away from the rest of the game if it truly costed as much as it sounds like it did. Now there are a few things I have to mention. First off having a truly good story that doesn't give way to stretching I would think would be neigh-impossible in the current day. Who can write the amount of content needed for an MMO and keep it consistently good with little to no filler? AND then add voices (which may limit the story... no playable wookies? ). This thread is really just me questioning if the voices are really worth it. I mean Bioware basically said it's one of the things they were going to use to help make this game amazing. But honestly I've played a LOT of amazing games with amazing stories that didn't have voices, I question how much it potentially took away from the game in other areas and I question how much it actually HELPS the game. Again, a lot of the voicework is kind of useless because no amount of good voicework will make some of these boring filler missions fun. I mean no disrepsect to Bioware. They've certainly got a tough job. And Idunno how to end this post. Thoughts? lol Also, I haven't reached 50 yet so this is the opinion of someone who's not experienced the whole thing. But even if the next few levels I experience are amazing I don't see it changing my views on the story being spread way too thin. That all said, I'm still playing. This game isn't terrible. I'm still here obviously. Short version: Voices? Worth it? Idunno Story good? Some of it. Spread way too thin. Too much "filler". Companions too silent and spread thin too.
  18. Not going to happen. Lucas has banned it. And I can't imagine them as Troopers either since they don't usually have all that heavy armor.
  19. All I want are Wookies. Smuggler class (possibly ONLY).
  20. Cryptic's specialty is customization and they do it the best in the industry (and it's still not perfect... not close). Too bad Bioware sucks at it.
  21. The "fat" models are just large deformed people. Besides those I think they're decent enough (I love some of them, usually the droids).
  22. D3 is not an MMO and doesn't have near the amount of gameplay. I'm sure D3 has affected SWTOR in some way (heck, I haven't played SWTOR since I bought D3) however whatever effects are likely not going to last very long. D3 isn't a long game. If you think SWTOR doesn't have enough content then this non-MMO has a lot less. It just won't last as long.
  23. Naw it's over explained. My question already had an answer .
