  1. They are already restricted, the designers must have felt there was a reason to do so, logical or otherwise. However, there is no 'logical' reason to remove the restriction. No harm at all. Thank you for reinforcing my point. H.
  2. Actually, the logic points in the other direction. The reasons why people want blaster rifles are purely emotional. H.
  3. It was stated a while back, on a website I have forgotten, that there will be no races that differ too dramatically from the human 'norm' (in terms of appearance, mainly). The reason given was that the emphasis upon story would be compromised by playing a race that looked (and behaved?) too differently from our perceptions of humanity. It was claimed that such a disposition would be difficult to identify with by the gamer. I have to admit, my BS detector went into overdrive at this point. I, personally, give more credit to the gamer, and indeed the roleplayer, than to assume that they would be unable to identify with a race such as a Wookiee or Trandoshan. Or that they would not find their immersion in such a character's story to be meaningful. What I believe Bioware were trying to say was that the development of a storyline for these races within the rigid structure already defined by the game, in addition to the itemisation and possible voicing issues, was a headache too big/expensive for them to countenance. I expect that this won't be the last time that the story albatross turns from a good omen into a rotten necktie on the good ship SWtoR. H.
  4. Unfortunately, as a Jedi Shadow, this just doesn't hold weight at all. Voice of reason? No. Covert operative. Not exactly a public speaker. This is probably the main problem with the JC storyline. It bases itself upon the assumption that you will be a diplomat. Which a Shadow really isn't. Nor should they be. And so the story really only aligns correctly with one AC. And as for helping others, sure. But really only because the alternative dialogue choices make you sound like either a petulant teenager, or an idiot. Commonly, in fact, both. This is really the crux of what annoys me about the JC gameplay; the dialogue. Either you're taking the 'the jedi way is to serve' position, or you sound like a nerf herder who came down on the last shuttle. I've found very few alternatives to the 'holier than thou' approach that aren't completely terrible. And almost every time you try an option that isn't so sickeningly self sacrificing, some NPC or another will chastise you for it. I'm trying to play a neutral jedi, who isn't just a complete tool for the Order and is attempting to look outside the box a little without going batsith crazy. But it's actually quite difficult to achieve. I find myself thinking, 'did I really just say that?' after a large proportion of dialogue choices. Mostly, because I want to be a reasonable, neutral jedi, I've had to plump for the standard, not-a-complete-imbecile option just so I can live with myself after each conversation. I've not had this feeling with the other storylines. I feel I can pay DS or LS warrior with no sense of being compromised. Inquisitor too works well with DS and LS choices. The same for BH, smuggler and IA. JK, I'm not so sure of, having not progressed far and actually playing mine as a compete tool for the Order, and trooper I haven't tried. So, overall, and certainly for my playstyle, the JC story has been rather irritating. The premise is fine, but the execution is poorly thought out and then just badly written. I get what jedi are and how they're generally portrayed, but there are options and alternatives in a game like this that are just begging to be discovered. It's just a shame they were not given due respect in their development. H.
  5. I tend to find that there is an ambient level of a-hole behaviour in all MMOs (indeed, in all online communication). This level varies from place to place depending, I suppose, upon how well it is policed. What you are noticing, I believe, is a rise in this level due to the new influx of players at this time. These are people that do not know/have yet to develop a respect for the community. Some are being deliberately rude, because they think it amusing, and have little or no intention of actually joining the community. Other's simply have no idea how to behave in such a social setting and just get carried away. Many more will be behaving in an acceptable fashion, but these are rarely noticed due to the high profile nature of the offenders. The same was observed shortly after launch. Again, a large influx of people who did not know one another or have a sense of community. This anonymity and lack of meaningful repercussion often proves a fertile environment for such behaviour to flourish. Though generally only for a short time, as they grow bored and leave, or wise up and integrate as consensus of the community turns against them. Basically, those that remain must begin to temper their behaviour as the sanctions imposed by the community (i.e. the ignore list) has a more meaningful impact upon them. Not being allowed to join groups/guilds because they are a known problem may cause some to review their behaviour as it effects their experience of the game. Either that or they leave. Over time, those that remain develop a certain affinity for the community and become somewhat subject to the codes of behaviour that it espouses. This more or less happens unconsciously. It is just something most humans tend to do. There may be exceptions, of course, but these become very much the minority. This isn't to say that everyone just gets along over time. There will still be cases of certain individuals behaving rudely towards one another, but this drops off to the ambient level I originally mentioned. Exactly what this level is seems dependent upon the community and what they are prepared to tolerate. TL;DR New entrants to any community tend to act up. As they develop a sense of the community they cease to test the boundaries as much and begin to integrate, or they leave. Most of those that remain join the consensus. Some may still challenge it, though generally to a lesser degree. H.
  6. I have no problem at all adding my support to this motion. Another of these models, either as a schematic or as a quest reward for around the same level as the original is awarded, would be fine. Might I also add that that I would like to see the 'off hand only' restriction removed from Two Fingers Revenge. In fact, for any pistol/lightsaber really. I cannot see any logical reason for this to be in place. H.
  7. Be aware that you enjoying your game, at your pace, may be impacting on somebody else's enjoyment of their game, at their pace. Not an argument for, or against. Just a statement. H.
  8. I wouldn't be so quick to assume that one's level of education, and thus one's ability to articulate, is in accordance with one's age. He may well be 42, but with the articulation of a poorly educated mid teen. It happens. All largely academic, however. Since, on here, he is as he appears. H.
  9. Since there has been talk of allowing colour unification for companions, and with the last update being titled 'Allies', I wonder if this feature was earmarked to be included, and then wasn't. If the brief to the art asset team was to produce something matching in style, but not worry about the colours, then this would explain the mismatch. Or they just gave the above brief anyway and simply didn't consider the mismatch issue with respect to companions at all. Which would be very lax indeed. Just speculation, of course, and not a defence for the poor implementation. H.
  10. A couple of fun shots of my gunslinger. http://img194.imageshack.us/img194/1417/moneynf.jpg http://img842.imageshack.us/img842/4764/warml.jpg H.
  11. I would shift it a step back and say that we don't know what we want until we find that we do not have it. I doubt any of us had a list of expected features in our hands as we logged into the game for the first time. However, in the process of playing we discover things that are 'missing'. Or, to be a little more accurate, things that we would like to see. We also notice things that we would rather not have. In this we have the trial and error. Clearly, the result of this discovery is to request the missing features. And thus the game grows through player feedback. Sadly, many players take it as a given that, upon discovering the lack of something, they are somehow being cheated and thus react in a wholly inappropriate way. But that's just how some people are. Should more of these features have been in at launch? Possibly. But the features that are not there are those that were considered to be of too low a priority to be included at release. Or those that were not considered at all. Of these, we have the ability to make request for inclusion as the game develops. This is something that an MMO facilitates more than any other type of game. Quitting because a feature is missing is somewhat premature. Though through this action the feature may see implementation in a later build, to the obvious benefit of those who remain. So, OP, don't be sad at these notices to quit. If each of these prompts BW to improve their game, then those that leave are, in fact, doing remaining and future players valuable service. Think of it then as a noble sacrifice. H.
  12. Server wide. But tied to your account, obviously. You can have different legacy names on different servers. H.
  13. It's astonishing what some folks will put up with for the sake of a few virtual shinies. My advice: grow a spine. Refuse to tolerate the morons and jerks that think they can tell you how to play. I'm happy to rein my horse in right alongside the OP here. The view is dandy, it's just a pity more folks aren't willing to appreciate it. Drop the group if you're taking abuse and /ignore the offender. And those of you left feeling ticked off that the healer just bailed, understand why and do the same. H.
  14. If you flag first then you're being rather sporting about it. The dickish move is to just attack and have that flag you. So they're fighting an NPC at the time? Meh. They ought to pay more attention if they're flagged. I've no idea why it simply wasn't implemented from the get go that you can only attack/damage a PvP flagged player if you are likewise flagged. H.
  15. Pretty much what the others have said. If you want a bit more of a comfort zone the scoundrel offers stealth, good cc and healing. They are generally more close quarters orientated. If you want range, great damage and enjoy the challenge of working without a safety net then try the gunslinger. Taking biochem for the reusable stim and med-packs as a gunslinger helps too, though the same can be said for biochem with any class. H.
