  1. Having a 51 powertech and a 55 trooper I have to say I like the overall aesthetic look of a vanguard trooper with the big gun but the animations are so much better as a powertech. Heck I think flamethrower hands down is so cool, coupled with rail shot and death from above.
  2. Cool. My main issue (purely from a PvP perspective) is losing out on the AOE talent Prototype Flame Thrower which honestly is one of the most powerful talents to spec into when going up the AP tree, other than the defensive Energy Rebounder and Stabilized Armor.
  3. Why not just go up the tactics tree and wear a shield? You get more DPS and the liberty to have more armor. You only waste 1 point but you get reflexive shield. For me, the question is whether to pick up Charged Loaders and Fire Pulse versus Shield Cycler, Riot Gas, and Ceramic Plating. More DPS versus more defense.
  4. Frankly, if you're being focused fired your job is to live longer than the other team's focus. If you die you die, especially in solo play. But die last. It's key. How to do that? Read above. If you were focused first and they did well and won then they likely will repeat that strat. Start in the rear, hide behind objects so they can't pull you or range you. Pop your cooldowns early and don't hesistate. STILL focus fire the target the rest of your team is focusing. I actually find if I try and get cute and run from everyone I am more of a liability than if I focused the target from the get go. Likely you will go down either way. Without a dedicated healer and mumble speak it's tough for any solo arena DPS guy to stay alive too long. They realize you are the biggest threat for a reason - your DPS is great as pyro.
  5. You know, in theory this sounds pretty nice. I might give it a shot as well. I agree with you that Reflective Shield sounds better than Energy Blast. Let's do some math here. Power Screen can get 3 charges up in 4.5 seconds if you shield successfully (I am assuming the most optimal scenario). Energy Blast is off the GCD so you fire that instantly if you're quick to react. Now you have an additional 25% of shield absorption for 6 seconds. Reflective Shield gives 25% damage reduction for 12 seconds and is on cool down for 120 seconds normally. It doesn't clarify how much Energy Redoubt helps in absorbing damage. Anyone know this answer? If we theorize the same 4.5 seconds above then the cool down goes down to 115.5 seconds. However, we can safely add that you likely will be taking more damage if you're doing your job right then a span of 4.5 seconds. So you can reduce the CD timer to maybe half. So every 60 seconds you get 25% damage reduction for 12 seconds (versus 6) and some additional damage absorbed. This seems more optional but also requires more active fighting. Warzones lend themselves well to this I believe due to the non-stop battling, especially near nodes. I like it!
  6. Wow now I understand. So I just dinged 50 on my sniper. In order for me to prepare for end game PvP it looks like I need to start buying the max MKs.
  7. I actually really like that idea to pick up Storm from the tanking tree and put the rest in assaults. I also think getting a 3 second root after a harpoon is nice. I am leveling one up now - the trade off is losing out on Assault Plastique, Adrenaline Fuled, and Critical Recharge, which are certainly no slouches, but you do end up getting Storm, Riot Gas, Defensive Measures, and some additional damage boosts and defense boosts. Not too shabby. I will try it out. http://www.torhead.com/skill-calc#801GMGMzRZZfhMrzRrcc.3
  8. It's really annoying and when it's a game of inches in some fights it actually makes me feel it caused my death, not my ability decisions. It happened like 8-10 times last night for me.
  9. I don't think he is saying it'd be god mode as it relates to a realistic statement you made. He is saying that because it would make the class too powerful. I tend to agree. If I could stealth and set up my ambush followed by all the instant shots I get from Marksman I could drop people left and right. With the current game mechanics it'd be too much. Maybe you can suggest sniper stealth if you want to drop DPS by X percent.
  10. These days at least on the RPPvP server I am leveling up a sniper from 1 and I have yet to run into any gank fest. Maybe because the game has been out for awhile and people are sticking with their 55's. I ran into one and we ignored each other. I'm currently level 38.
  11. Same here, rather annoying; especially when in PvP when it's a game of inches.
  12. It's pretty much the same for me - valor 57 BH Pyrotech here. It's really hard for me to sway from it - then again I'm in full champ and pushing battlemaster and knocking 400k+ in WZs so the damage is pretty stellar. Every so often I'll try out advanced prototype or the hybrid tank/pyro but i keep coming back. I have a 30 sniper which is cool but I hear at 50 as a marksman you are in for some serious whiffs and damage mitigation. I have a 21 mercenary. This class I should try and level up more. I don't think though that I could settle on a pyrotech merc build because I have a flavor of this shared tree as a powertech currently. And, well, I am a bit of a solo pugger so the mercenary arsenal is not a solo type really. Powertech = carbonize - aoe interrupt / stun, grapple - interrupt casting too, electodart - stuns, quell - interrupt. It makes for great spell casting bashing if you get the jump. You also get a timed thermal detonator that lands with a big boom, mine hit for over 3k on crits. When I pop surge adrenal and a relic I am pushing 4k on my rail shot that has a chance to reset the CD everytime I use my .... any time. It's a powerful class.
  13. The trooper vanguard has a lighter laugh. Sort of funny. It's like a girl laugh compared to ours.
  14. What sucks is the ap build "feels" better to me but the damage is so laughable compared to pyro. I pug mostly and I will occasionally break 400k as pyro but will maybe hit 300k as ap. I am not saying ap is all about damage due to their mobility but I miss the snare and td. It's nice not having to worry about heat and the interrupt shortened but at the end of the day if I'm speced for damage I want to be speced for DAMAGE.
  15. With the recent change in acquiring gear I might have to pick up the supercommando set and try this spec out. I've been switching between 31 AP and 31 Pyro, bored of pyro so switch to AP for some different graphical hits but generally its so sub par its hard to stay there. I can pick up the shield and other gear pretty swiftly with the new increase of commendations in the bags.
