  1. i bought it off steam for like 3 quid the other week and its dated horribly i mean its still starwars and such but the graphics are woeful. I would much rather lucasarts did a complete overhall of the entire starwars franchise starting with the early doom style games with dark forces and jedi knight. I think a reboot is in order i mean we havnt seen a new xwing game since alliance and i think that only just started to use the voodoo chipset ?
  2. I have been to see the Phantom Menance in 3d and i will say this. If you have seen avatar or despicable me or other recent 3d films you will find the phantom menance rather disapointing. I think this is going to be the problem with all old style movies converted to 3d medium is that they were never filmed with 3d in mind and as such the effect is rather lost. I thought the light sabre fights or the starfighter battles would have been really impressive in 3d. However it seems they arnt. I am not even sure if they re did a lot of the 3d in the film its been so long since i had seen in the movie. That i am sure they have touched up a lot of the cgi. Either way if you really want to see it go watch the film but i wouldnt make a special trip to go watch and especially drag the other half along.
  3. I will say this now i have watched the phantom menance in 3D i wont be watching any of the others. Its not a bad attempt at converting a 2D film to 3D and i am sure i think they have redone all the CGI. i would have to compare them side by side but certain things in this film seemed far better. For instance Jar Jar had a lot more flexibility in his movement (yeah i know they didnt airbrush him out) The problem is i think they needed to go back to the main cgi Moments of the film and redo them from scratch with the 3D tech. so the starfighter fight at the end felt more in your face. and the large gugan vs droid fight would be a bit better. But over all you could watch this movie and not actually notice any of the 3d you really do have to look for it.
  4. the only people who use rotations are the obsessive compulsive must get 1 more dps. I just mash the keys to whatever comes up it takes far more skills than pressing 1 2 3 4 5 over and over its not skill Key mashers win
  5. this game out of ten i would say 6/10 Graphically not that impressive i think age of conan looks better, i think Starwars galaxies was far more iconic. and performance is still garbage. Sound i had to turn down the music because it interfeared with the voice acting story some classes great story some not so great overall a bit MEH leveling cut and paste from every other mmo slightly improved but still the same quests its a good game and i am having fun i just think they should have made it more epic than what it is which is rather small with way too many loading screens. i think the main hubs being "stations" is rather sucky.
  6. The problem is old school MMOS were group oriented they had classes that required grouping and god help you if you wernt the right class for the group. I played a primary support class and basically didnt have to worry i broadcast LFG and that was it 10 seconds later was in a group. BUt there were other classes that said LFG and the response was a cold wind. Then someone came up with the idea that everyone should be able to solo effectively, which basically killed off the whole group mechanic of MMO's they made it faster and more efficient to quest your way to end game THEN find a guild / group to do all the raidy stuff. This i feel was a really really bad move yeah you had to find a group to do some levelling or even efficient leveling. BUT it made you talk to the other players and down time allowed you to get to know the rest of the realm. I remember in DAOC i used to know at least 50% of the players on my server yeah it wasnt the highest population but i knew most people by name and knew of them from dungeon runs and from actually levelling up. Most MMOs i can go from start to end and never group, when i do group its normally for 30 mins then we all go back to solo grind to end game. Its such that its ruined the dynamic The whole Healer / DPS / tank trinity maybe old hat but at least it made you group.
  7. I really dont want Bioware or any mmo company spamming my inbox with notices of maintenance I asure you i would much rather the servers be brought down during european prime time than have a totally separate company dealing with the game. AKA goa and dark age of camelot where patches took in the region of 6 months from US release to EU lack of comunication isnt unprofessional its a cost saving, would i rather they fix somthing with the server or put together a email blitzkreig to 2 million players saying the servers are going to be broek. not being able to log on tells me the servers are broke i dont need an email telling me the same. Just get a second game to play or an offline single player game you can play between down time less stressful.
  8. why would 16 gig make any bit of difference to this game it only utilises about 2gig according to task manager. all that 16 would do is provide extra space for windows to consume. (infact i dont think any modern game utilises as much as swtor) and yes i run 8gig and yes i run win7 64bit. This is what is effecting the majority of the fps in this game. 1. Population , you will find in heavily populated zones no matter the spec of your machine the game slows to a crawl. I suspect this is down to bandwidth on your broadband more than limitations of your computer. the game has to send so much packet information to your machine and if your zone has say 120+ people in it no matter how beefy your machine if your network is bottlenecking on that data it will crawl. I suspect the people that arnt noticing this bottlenecking are on higher speed broadband 10meg ? 2. There is a memory leak. This game has a noticeable memory leak i noticed this when i left myself logged in by accident just at the server select screen not in game as such and when i logged back in on a reasonably empty server the game crawled. I logged out completely then back in and bingo the game runs fine again. dont just post your specs of your computer you should post your ISP provider as well and minimum connection. ALso i suspect wireless players are at a massive disadvantage due to the even lower connection speed of wifi.
  9. The problem with Sandbox mmos is that the average MMO player is basically clueless they want direction they want quantifiable rewards. most sandbox require you to give yourself the reward and wow basically ruined that for everyone, people want spoon feeding they want gratification even if its purple gear. I personally prefered the older style mmos Daoc / EQ they were a bit more grinding but gave you more options to do at end game instead of "MUST FARM PURPLES!" anywho thats my view most mmos are on rails and they will remain so while the developers chase the wow crowd for their money.
  10. The thing is i was in PVP the other night and i had no problems, tonight im mashing abilitys and standing there while folks run past with the hutt ball then i stun them AFTer they cross the line ?
  11. nothing on that thread goes to a broken link ?
  12. I am not stunned my connection is 40ms and my cpu isnt maxxed and yet in pvp i will stand around mashing my abilities then suddenly somthing will happen it will say i hit maximum heat but nothing actually has happens ? Is this a enemy ability i am not aware of ?
  13. sounds like your hard disk drives arnt very quick at loading, i know mine arnt which is why my loading screens take 10 seconds or so. also how much base memory have you got because i got 8 gig and it makes no difference to the speed as the game will cap out at around 2gig usage. (yeah i do run win 7 64 bit before you ask)
  14. unfortunatly i doubt you will get far , anyone know how far they got with the SPOre class action lawsuit for the hidden spyware that EA stuck in that apparently caused instability and caused (so i heard) some computers to format themselves. I dont think i have heard of a single class action lawsuit against ANY mmo company suceeding. i thought there was a big notice somewhere which states "online content may vary to that which is advertised" ?
  15. The problem is people have been power gaming their way through tor. although i would say this game is very casual friendly. I suspect that Bioware dont really wnat people to have a "MAIN" and instead play through the other story missions with other character classes and builds after they hit 50. I already got about 8 toons i want to level after i finished my merc
  16. there you go your playing on an alienware machine you are aware that they install some of the lowest grade components in those machines and sell them at over the odds ? You may say that skyrim and crysis runs maxxed and are fine but they are single player game sMMOS have to process information coming from the server as well as everything else. they are normally more cpu intensive than single player games.
  17. most "bought" engines include contracts for development and improvments, as such BIO ware can get rid of a lot of expensive developers and programmers and instead expect and get updates to the engine direct from the company they bought it from. Meanwhile they can put together expansions and extra missions far more quickly than if they were having to hand code all the development software. Look at c ryptic they are stuck with an engine that is rather limited in what it can do they are having to constantly improve the engine to make their own games better.
  18. Just reset all the characters on that account and put in a 14 day ban (or up to the point when the free play stops) People know they are exploiting and tbh ignorance isnt an excuse "o sorry i didnt realise i was earning millions of credits". You will hear them scream or Waaaa i got my toon reset . Also they can trace where all that money went just delete it from the game totally. And if your money were unfairly deleted then let them put your case forward for you to get the money back. Those that exploited will keep quiet and the true victims will show that they sold something legitimatly without knowledge.
  19. you will find these type of people in every single MMO most of the time they play for the first week or two then stop playing proclaim the game is garbage then spend the next 5 years constantly dissing the game over and over. and if you say anything they declare you a blind fan boi (or whatever the terminology is) Surprisingly you will find the majority of players never actually visit the forums of most games and are quite happily actually playing the game they are paying money. Just put them into the "troll" box and either do what you with caged animals feel pitty for them or poke them with a stick to see if they bite (disclaimer : dont put animals in boxes and poke with sticks because i know i will eventually see it on youtube)
  20. Most MMOS are fun when you first start playing them its only when they get the hooks in that you realise they are all rather shallow when it comes to game play. Most people play MMOs for the people they meet as a way of virtual socialisng (sad i know) WOW is /was successful because when it was implemented a lot of the old school mmos had really bad time sinks things which got in the way of actually playing the game. Although they had excellent communities. The thing with wow (and i suppose all mmos) is that its end game is very well laid out, the bad thing is that the end game gets rehashed every 3 to 6 months with a "new expansion" or whatever blizard call it and then thye move the goal posts on for this new content. This has the problem that the 4 months previous you spent grinding the best gear in the game and you get yourself totally pimped out has just been totally made pointless and so you have to repeat it ALL over again. The end game is one long conveyer of rince and repeat monsters to get the fat gear to compete at surprisingly end game. The bad thing is that you will find that unless you follow THE cookie cutter builds that you must have set equipment and you must have researched every single instance and commited it to memory you will never see end game unless you are a really desired class and even then its risky because the people on the raids might be complete tools. The issue i have with starwars at the moment is that it is primarily a single player experience yeah you can group up to do flash points and heroic missions but ultimatly you can solo through the entire game without grouping once. The voice overs are nice but even i am finding myself mashing space bar because they talk so slowly and i have subtitles and can speed read. It was a nice idea for Bioware to try out voice overs but in the end its an expense that after the first month people will be skipping through incredibly quickly.
  21. i agree with the OP if they are not having fun then quit go do something else, too many people stay in a MMO they hate proclaim on the forums how much they hate it and totally forget that they are paying a company money each money who doesnt care if they hate it as long as they receive moneys. I am really enjoying the game im on a populated EU server but i purposefully set up alts on a low population server just in case my main server cant be got on for whatever reason. But really if you dont like something dont continue to pay and dont continue to haunt forums. I remember people on Dark age of camelot Haunting the forums for years after they quit constantly bemoaning a nerf that happened years ago and they just wouldn't move on. So dont be a ghost move on
  22. Sorry the day i start seeing "you must have xxx dps OR this build " is the day i stop playing, i hated dps monitors with a vengeance especially when you got 5 year old tank players with a dps build proclaiming how great they are because they pulled agro off the palladin and that i was rubbish for not holding it why they finish a fight on 5% health and no mana or endurance. This UI isnt the worst i have ever used, the whole "muscle memory and skill" thing which i admit i didn't read dint make any seance what so ever. So i have to press buttons in a certain order to maintain maximum dps, where is the fun in that if i wanted to press 1 2 3 4 i would just code it into my g15 and go afk. This game is about having fun and some mods and ui improvements remove that fun, i don't really want automatic quest running mods that say "to get to 50 you must go to x y z as fast as possible" or how to craft. It just takes away the fun, i went and bought skyrim and the sales person went "hey you want the official guide" and i looked at him as if he was insane, why would i want a guide for a brand new game. (also i have the internet so go figure) any ways i think there are elements they could improve on for instance the GTN (aka the auction house) is a real clunker to navigate why they couldn't just cut and paste from all the other mmos on the market i have no idea. Why reinvent the wheel.
  23. well i thought the server queues would be sorted at release, just get home from work and guess what queues now on the main server i started on and the secondary that i started on so i wouldnt have to queue on the main. So what am i supposed to do roll on a third server ? and keep moving servers because i work and having to restart from square one every time i log in until i find a server so grossly underpopulated there is noone to play on ? I stated in the post beta questionaire i WOULD NOT pay for a game where i have to queue and i guess a lot of other people would be the same. Not impressed with release but then should i be surprised by this any more.
  24. i thought they got my email from the beta when they asked "how long you would wait in a queue to play" and i said "i wouldnt pay a subscription for any game that forced me to wait". damn shame its a good game and i find myself here playing minecraft waiting to get in Damn you Bioware (ps cant you go get the Startrek lisence next and fix that abomination before cryptic really do destroy it)
