  1. Well title says it all really! RIP Carrie Fisher
  2. I was going to say something just like this, and personally for me I am in total agreement. I'm not posting this in opposition to those who hold an opposing viewpoint merely expressing my personal feelings on the subject. In context when the cartel market opened I did eye up the possibility of buying the unlocks to try and create a preferred account that was as close to a subscription as possible (quickbars, hold access, guild bank access, character slots & basically everything else - account wide and not just per character), and it came to something like 20k - 25k cartel coins, and I'd still miss ops access and limited war zones and flash points. I do not for a second want to denigrate anyone's choice to go f2p, for some that is the best choice. I am just for one happy for thriving servers, and plenty of people to play with. I do get how some people feel lied to, and as such may have a point, but outside that issue I feel my subscription is very much worth it to me, and I will continue to do so as long as that is the case.
  3. If they are gone permanently that is a poor show. I will not be paying for any more of them. The very small chance to gain the item(s) you want is fine, but putting a time limit in addition to achieving this prices the Super Rare stuff in the cartel packs well and trully trully out of the market for me.
  4. Whilst I feel for anybody who has lost a name (yes it can be damnsome frustrating - it happend to me in AoC). I really don't think it is a quit-worthy issue. Sure if you are simply not enjoying the game fair enough, but to quit over a lost name is simply absurd. If you are actually enjoying the game, why deprive yourself of the pleasure of continuing to do so? If that pleasure hinges upon the name that sits above your toon then I'd argue the rest of the game isn't really engaging you enough to warrant playing anyway.
  5. Honestly I have this problem with both the current post-rotj eu literature, and the proposed episodes VII-IX. It boils down to dilution. I love the classic trilogy with a firey burning passion, and I can accept the prequels as flawed as they are. However continuation into further dramatic galactic engulfing conflicts diminishes the emotional resolution I felt at the conclusion of VI. The prophecy had come full circle, Anakin Skywalker redeemed himself and finally destroyed the Sith, freedom was restored to the galaxy, Luke, Leia, Han et al lived happily ever after..... Only they didn't in the EU: Emperor Palpatine flanged himself a ressurection, turned Luke to the darkside only to be redeemed by Leia at the eleventh hour in what was merely an inferior recycling of the whole story of his father. Someone goes on to invent the anti Jedi species with the yuuzhan vong, more wars, more death and more suffering. Han & Leia's kids aren't even spared it going on to fight suffer, fall and the whole Skywalker legacy go on to suffer yet more tragedy as they set about killing each other. Peace and resolution is never reached, It all just goes on and on ad nauseum. All the while just chipping away at that nice, cheerful and hopeful resolution we all got way back in 1983. Now as damning as that all is I'm not against the EU. Star Wars is massively popular I get that, and when something is as massively popular someone is always going to want to sell you more of it. In addition there are some real gems in the EU body of books, shows and videogames. Heavens I wouldn't be here posting on an online game forum set in that universe if I didn't get a kick out of some elements. Doubtless some people disagree with me, and loved the Dark Empire comics or the yuuzhan vong invastion story arcs, and if you did more power to you. My above thoughts are nothing more than an opinion piece. What gets me most is how divisive all this gets. People debate for hours and hours on points of continuity figuratively bashing themselves over the head over who knows more than who, as if it somehow proves who is the better star wars fan. Do you know what gets lost in all of this? The spirit of Star Wars, if they take the new episodes in a different direction so be it, and if that flies in the face of EU canon, that doesn't matter. If any of these stories have fired your imagination, then they have done thier job, and nobody can take that away from you. I'll watch these new films, hoping that they will fan that spark that they did when I was a kid, and perhaps more importantly ignite that spark in a whole new generation with tales of love, adventure and good vs evil. If they manage to do that I will be satisfied. Star Wars may have "belonged" to George Lucas, and now to Disney. However the stories are ours, they belong to humanity. They are now a part of our collective unconscious and alway will be, and no one can own that. People talk a lot of continuity, but interestingly the emotional component is often alluded to, but never addressed. That lovely resolution of a story well told way back in RotJ, and the incredibly important emotional dimension it held for me has never been dampened, if something came along that "contradicted" that feeling it simply failed to resonate, and never joined the constellation of bright stars that burned in my mind of stories that I cherish. This has nothing to do with "facts" about the Star Wars universe or anything as pedestrian as "canon". I hope in time more people come to realize this, and allow Star Wars to inspire.
  6. As to the HK-51 thing, we've all been waiting on him since before launch. He was cut from release, but we all knew he was coming. Also I wrote: I also think in this instance that people clamouring for it are not being entitled, they were promised something that has yet to appear. I'm sure the announcement of SGRA inclusion influenced some people to purchase the game. As such it does need to be looked at and included at some point. So I'm not entirely sure how you think I am not on your side in asking about this.
  7. Speaking as someone with no personal interest in SGRAs, I would of course prefer that they focused on other issues that affect the majority (as I suspect they have done). That being said SGRAs have been promised to be implemented since before launch, so it does not surprise me one iota that people looking foward to this being added want to know what the situation is after nearly a year of waiting. The fact that Bioware have said it will be included post launch pretty much nullify any arguments of wether it should be included, the position is that it will be. If it bothers you that much go play something else. I also think in this instance that people clamouring for it are not being entitled, they were promised something that has yet to appear. I'm sure the announcement of SGRA inclusion influenced some people to purchase the game. As such it does need to be looked at and included at some point. The only thing to be said against these claims is afaik no specific date was actually set, and there are other things that have also been promised (like the super secret space stuff, guild capital ships etc). Whilst I'm sure all of us that want to see these things included would love to know when they will hit live if they haven't set a date there is not much to be done but wait patiently and ask a perfectly valid question every now and again. I mean Heaven's they are only just getting to implement HK-51 next month, and we've all been waiting how long for that?
  8. I've had a bit of a think, and I have a couple of alts that I rarely play who got transfered over with the recent merges. As I was lucky and pretty much got to keep what I wanted, I'd like to offer up these names: Talita Narkissos I know for a fact I've been given Narkissos over someone else, as when I voluntarily transfered to The Progenitor from Trask Ulgo I couldn't create a placeholder for him. So the basic idea is if anyone wants either of those names let me know and we can arrange a time for me to release them. I don't want any credits or favors for this, as this whole name change thing has understandably dissappointed a lot of people, and I don't believe in profiting from the situation. I urge everyone else who has been lucky to have a good think and post any names they are willing to let go as a goodwill gesture.
  9. What boggles me is that I transfered over my main characters when the option came up, most of guild did. However as a guild leader I remade my old characters back on the old server, so I could keep in contact with stragglers who didn't know where we had gone. In that first server move I lost my legacy name (now corrected thank you Bioware!), I nearly lost my main's name, as I was forced to name change him, and then in a hopless act I tried putting in my original name, and on the third time (presumably as someone had *just* released the name) I got it and was back in as my main - incredibly lucky I know!! The only other name I lost was my Trooper, and I didn't bother moving any other of my low level alts that I couldn't create placeholder names for, which was basically a smuggler, a sith warrior and a bounty hunter. Now with the actual recent merge, all my old characters have been consolidated on the same server, and I now have the Smuggler, my original Trooper name, Sith Warrior, and Bounty Hunter all back under my banner. I've not been required to change any characters who already made the move. All I really have to do is level my young trooper back up to where my old one is, and everything is as it was before. Which as it stands I count myself very lucky indeed! What I think I will do is to have a think about all the character names I have, that I'm happy to lose and start a post on my server forum offering up those names, as I suspect many of us may have bank characters or placeholders left over we would be happy to lose to a person that badly wants that name. I know it's not an ideal solution, but perhaps as a community we can work together to try and make things a little less painful.
  10. To be honest a few people not getting to feel like special snowflakes trumps everyone having the chance to have the legacy name they desire imo. I suspect the op was lucky enough to be on a destination server back when the mergers hit, and was now wants to have his cake and it it too. The needs of the many and all that bro...
  11. Speaking to the frustrated many who have lost their names in the transfers and server merges, if you've already lost the name, what good is it to have it now? Will everybody be willing to re-roll a mirror character just to get the name back? I think the other thing that bothers me is that for many people who "reserved" names, did so by watching the SWTOR site like a hawk pre-release, made sure they pre-ordered the minute it came up (I know I did!), and made sure they were pre-loaded and ready to login in the minute the servers went live (which again I did) for early access. The primary reason I bothered with all of that (and bearing in mind I live in England so I was up half the night after the pre-order was leaked the day before, just in case I needed to get my pre-order in although as it turned it out it was more our morning the darn thing came up!!) was to secure the names of my characters. This I dutifully did, and I do not think it's fair to now set new goalposts after the fact. I get that people are frustrated, and I have at this stage only have my smuggler sat at level 1 waiting to go, and I don't want to be forced to play through the first 10 levels before I'm ready to level the character as I want to embark upon that character's journey over a few months when I next feel like playing the character. The only solution I see as viable at this point is to allow everyone who has the names they have now to keep them, and institute something like they have in Guild Wars 2, where you have 18 characters, and you can put a space in essentially giving yourself a middle name or a surname (if your willing to switch how the legacy displays to under your name, or even using your planned legacy name). This opens up the possibility of the maximum number of people having names, or combinations of names that they want. Anything else just shifts the upset disenfranchised people around. You instigate removing all level 1s and you'll just see a different set of people starting threads, trying to get their names back.
  12. Sorry perhaps I wasn't clear in my original post. I wouldn't be overly bothered if they released stuff for it yearly or whatever. I'd even be fine if they never updated it again, but I would just like to know one way or another. The only two pieces of marketing blurb I can find after a cusory search are: "Unique in-game store with a dynamic array of items to assist you from your humble beginnings through your journey to become a galactic legend." - http://www.swtor.com/info/news/news-article/20110721 And: "Unique in-game vendor with a dynamic assortment of items available only to purchasers of the Collector's Edition." - http://buy.swtor.com/en Now I seem to remember in the pre-release buzz, there may have been an interview or panel at E3 or some other event where it was mentioned stuff would be added to it over time, but to be perfectly honest I don't remember exactly. It could be the word dynamic that is the sticking point here. It is most often taken to mean a thing in motion, or ever changing. It can also mean forceful or powerful. Net result is that as a marketing word it can be taken to mean not very much at all. EA could argue (badly imo!) that dynamic could mean "visually powerful" and that the companion customizations, social gear and extra stuff on it already fits that description, and also that as the social gear is wearable from quite a low level it can "assist you from your humble beginnings through your journey to become a galactic legend." Playing devils advocate here one can either chose to look like a powerful and menacing Imperial Trooper, or a High Ranking Republic Officer (depending on faction), thus fulfilling the dynamic portion of the statement. Whatever your individual perception of the gear there isn't a lot more to say (remember the old camp cheesy Batman and Robin TV show from the 60's, they looked daft beyond belief, yet still refered to as the Dynamic Duo). All of that aside, Bioware do pay attention. I should imagine if enough CE owners raise the issue every couple of months, and it is shown there is a clear and genuine interest. I wouldn't be surprised if some extra stuff makes it on the store eventually, or just a clear response that nothing more is planned, and we can drop the issue once and for all.
  13. Hi there I'm just wondering when Bioware will put some more items in the CE Vendors. The game has been out for over half a year now and I'm excited to see what new content they have in mind or in store for it. I am particularly interested to see when they will make it "dynamic" rather than the static vendor it has been so far: "Unique in-game vendor with a dynamic assortment of items available only to purchasers of the Collector's Edition." Anyway I hope everyone enjoys patch 1.3, back to levelling my Assassin. Peace.
  14. I have to confess I was unbelievably lucky, my main's name (same as my forum name, which I registered day 1 of the forums going up to say nothing of the game itself). I went to reserve my name on the destination server, but it was taken. In that impotent state of denial I tried again, no dice. However third time proved the charm and I snagged it!! Talk about luck I *must* have taken it in the few seconds someone had deleted the placeholder. I lost my legacy name (no great loss), and my female trooper Shepard (unoriginal, but it was a homage alright? :-p ). I can live with all of that in the light I get my main's name!!!
