  1. Ah yes I can see how this would be convenient for roleplaying purposes for instance where you would not want a soundtrack playing in the background as it's not "natural", yet since the band is a physical and visible part of the environment and thus should realistically also be able to be heard. Very good point!
  2. Ah true! How did I misread first time. I originally thought you meant "shoot" as in "switch" or "shut" it off. Hehe brilliant suggestion. Yes - I'm all for it!
  3. Although this is not what you meant, it still brought something funny to mind. You know how we can shoot those explosives from a distance and they blow up? Now -that's- what they should implement. Tired of hearing the same old wacky tunes? Shoot the jukebox and annihilate it. Forever silenced!
  4. To those of you who enjoy the Cantina music and are here to defend it, please understand that I've not come here to ask them to change, update, modify or remove it. In fact I don't want this post to interfere with your enjoyment of the Cantina music whatsoever. As far as I'm concerned, you're absolutely free to sit in a Cantina all day long and fill your ears to your hearts content. I'm not here to take that away from you. In all simplicity, I am merely here to request an option to disable it for those of us who cannot STAND it and for whom it makes visiting any place that has cantina music a strongly unpleasant and demotivating experience. If there is an option in the settings, or if one can "turn off" the cantina music for one's self from the jukebox, or even having the ability to make a mute music shortcut. Well surely none of these options hinder your experience in any way? And since they don't, I'm hoping it's not a problem. Live and let live and all that jazz. :-)
  5. I've returned to SWTOR after being away a couple of years and although I'm enjoying the game with full vigor again, something hit me like a ton of bricks in the most negative way. The maddening cantina music. It absolutely drives me insane and aggravates me so much that I almost want to quit! I did a search on trying to find if there is any way to turn it off and it seems there isn't without turning the music off completely which I do not want to do since I love the games soundtrack otherwise. However I would like to mention that there are a lot of threads out there complaining about the very same thing. Please add some way to turn off cantina music separately: Have an option in the sound preferences Have a "turn off" selection in the jukeboxes that actually STAYS switched off permanently unless you restart it Have at least the possibility to make a keybinding for muting music so one could just quickly turn it off when entering cantina areas (ctrl + m does not work btw)
  6. Thank you so much for responding. So that's why. No wonder I couldn't find anything then!
  7. Sorry if this has been asked a gazillion times but I've just spent half an hour googling and searching the forums for any information on this, but without luck. Bear with me please. 1) Can F2P players create and guilds and be guildmasters? 2) If not, can however F2P players join existing guilds as normal members? 3) If F2P players can indeed be guildmasters, will the options available to them be restricted?
  8. I agree completely. My main motivation to buy CE was also the in game perks, however the only useful thing so far has been the free mount. The VIP lounge was a huge disappointment, I'd been envisioning something much cooler where people would actually want to hang out. I do like the book though!
  9. Yes I also found this pretty surprising. Our guild is already set up on both factions (of one server) and obviously communication between the sides is a pain. We've resorted to using a Facebook group to communicate, but being a RP guild we'd obviously prefer to be able to do it IC as well. I'm so glad that one guy stood up and expressed his discontent with this aspect. The devs seemed genuinely surprised hehe. I hope it's like the one dev said, that they'll put it up a notch in priority.
  10. I watched the summit tonight online and during the guild section, someone asked whether guildmasters will ever be able to customize the guildmaster title to something else (since all other titles are customizable). The developer responding to this seemed perplexed and said that was the first time he'd heard of someone ask for such a thing. First of all, it's quite surprising that they never thought of it themselves since roleplaying seemed to be a quite high priority topic (big thumbs up to that yay!). The title "guildmaster" is not exactly realistic or immersive to the Star Wars universe is it. So it's a given that RP gms would want to change it. But actually what surprised me the most, was that they'd never heard of someone wanting this. I've been seeing this requested over and over again. Even googling cropped up several threads where people ask about this: http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=273559 http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=53013 http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=3372 http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=260339 http://www.swtor.com/de/community/showthread.php?t=118190 http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=65369 And the list goes on and on and on. So I'm assuming that someone filters all the comments and questions to the devs here on the forums (community managers?) and that's of course the smart thing to do since devs should be busy devving :-). But I'm wondering just how that that happens and what determines what issues ever reach the developer's ears/eyes?
  11. Well this issue is not only about datacrons, it's about everything you would be able to track mousing over those progress bars. Just as hard to keep track of what beasties you've found etc. I think I'd better modify the title of the post.
  12. johnhughthom: Yes I see the list of stories for each of these. However there is no "Found" indicator nor any other way for me to check in-game which ones I have completed. The game should not force people to seek this information outside of the game. I've been using SWTOR spy's walkthroughs on the particularly hard datacrons, however what if such a site as SWTOR spy did not exist in the first place? Or any other site for that matter. We just wouldn't know. And this is not just a problem with Datacrons but all of the "discoverables".
  13. It's been a week since I last logged on due to work hurries. And I find my character sitting next to a datacron. "Oh yeah" I think to myself. "That's right, I was hunting datacrons... but I can't for the life of me remember which ones I completeled. Crap." The fact that I had simultaneously been hunting datacrons with my alt on the other faction, certainly did not help! So I whipped out ye olde Codex and expanded the view, then started mouseovering the progress bars hoping to find some information on which ones had been completed. Alas, the sections gave no tooltip what so ever. And upon closer inspection I realize that the "sections" actually have nothing to do with how many ticks are left at all. So no wonder. This bothered me to the point of actually spending 5 hours of my Saturday to take screenshots and create improvent suggestions on how these progress bars should work in my opinion. Please have a look and respond to this thread if you think it would be an important improvement to be able to keep track of the various discovered things in the game! http://andrea.net/pics/codex.jpg PS: As visually polished and beautiful as the user interface is in SWTOR, (props to the UI graphic designers btw!), whoever was the UI designer (usually a different person than who makes it look pretty) leaves much to be desired. It could be though, that the UI designer(s) had their hands tied due to technical issues that the programmers couldn't work around. I do hope though that the usability and functionality of the user interfaces sees some improvements in the future.
  14. I fully support the OP's point. It makes me wince every time my character is referred to as "Lord" and find that it alienates me as a female player. It's bad enough NPCs are saying "Sir" all the time. :-( I really don't care if it's an old tradition from the military or not. It feels very irritating to hear them say that. Let alone have the title. My female characters are not men and if there were the dialogue option to [slap in the face] after an NPC called her "Lord" or "Sir", I'd certainly choose it. I would much prefer "Lady" thank you very much. Also please change the dialogue text of one quest givers who says "You look like the kind of MAN who could go for some extra credits" or something along those lines. Was in one of the early Sith areas.
  15. First of all thank you so much everyone, for all the wonderful words of support or even just coming to discuss your views. More discussion = the more attention Bioware will pay. Although there are a couple in the mix who would keep the male chars the way they are, it seems like the overwhelming majority do in fact feel bothered by this issue. So I'm very happy that I went to the trouble! With the high volume of posts in this particular forum, I highly doubt it. But tonight I sent them a mega mail (and the link to this thread) when they asked as to send them feedback. Most likely, those thousands upon thousands of emails people will be sending in, will most likely be read through some community managers and not the devs themselves, but can't hurt to try . *waves to her fellow developer* Yes PUPPET is the word! That's exactly what comes to mind from the male type II. Large head and dangly long legs. And I agree, it's just unsettling to see various styles, you're right on the dot when you say they need to settle on one. My vote goes for the more realistic style myself. When making my male character I kept bouncing between type II and III as well. I deleted and remade the character a few times before I finally settled on II since my handsome bald dude is a bit gothy so better he more on the skinny than the chunky side. But yeah, I wish there was an option between those two. *cries* Since this crotch rant business has generated so much positive reaction, I think I might as well make a mega rant on the lack of exploration in this game as well. It's always much easier and more efficient to get one's point across through visuals so will have to cook something up soon.
  16. I'm all for light cycles as long as it's not tied down to real life cycles. Since I usually only get to play at night, this was a real party pooper in WoW where I was always playing in the dark and missed the beauty of the daytime. No wonder I loved spending time in Outland when it was released. Something I'd love to also see is shift in weather. I remember when it started raining in Dark age of camelot, it brought such a wonderful shift of atmosphere. No other MMO has really gotten that same magic that DaoC did with rain.
  17. Wow nice to see this thread was awakened! I've actually heard several men complain of not being able to play male characters at all. What most of them say is that they wished there were a middle ground between body type II and type III and even though I'm a female with just 1 male toon, I agree. I'd definitely have chosen something in between 2 and 3 as well. 2 looks just too wimpy and like he has a shrunken body compared to his head, while 3 is way too bulky. Something that's started to really get on my nerves as well lately has been how badly characters are animated in respect to gravity. I mean I love the movements that they make when they fight for instance, but the animations for standing around and walking just look somehow rigid and like they're dolls and not living breathing creatures. Their limbs seem to lack gravity and a flow to them - they just sort of jut out like sticks. Even though WoW's characters are cartoony, I think they did a better job in this respect and always had a natural motion to them. I'm not quite sure whether the culprit here is how the limbs are positioned or the limb shape or the animation itself, probably a mixture of the three. But yeah, I constantly get this twitching irritance about how rigid characters are.
  18. Our 3d modellers at work claim that it shouldn't be a problem making such fixes.
  19. Hey if they would have given her a teen girl's voice, I'd have no problem. But the way she's sitting on the floor like a little kid would, and her voice being such a small girl's voice is totally mismatched. It's not the voice of a teen girl's. But it's like she's 7, 8, 9 or 10. Aside all that, I thought it was very refreshing to see a child NPC for a change. It gave more reality to the game. Kids were part of the Star Wars movies, they should be a part of the game as well.
  20. Speaking of bodies being plain WRONG... this morning I encountered the first NPC child I've seen in the game so far. She had the voice of a 9 year old, however they never bothered to make a child's body, instead she has a mini version of the female body, with cleavage, hips, waist and everything! What the hell? This was just creepy! http://andrea.net/pics/girl.jpg
  21. Thanks for expressing your opinions everyone. Who knows, maybe they might make even a smidgen of a fix, small enough so the "But I liked the old version better" people (who say that for the sake of saying it) won't notice and the people who do, will swear that the character looks a bit better. Enough for it not to be so blatant anymore. EwokLuvr: That is an awesome image and perfectly brings out the other issues the male body has. I'd have loved to be a fly on their meeting room wall when they discussed the original plan for the male character anatomy...
  22. Oh you like the current male butts? Personally I find them a bit too rounded and shapeless. I decided to define the butt a bit more, try the longer arms and tone down that package. http://andrea.net/pics/human_male_body.jpg Seriously, as much as I can appreciate a man who is "blessed" by his maker, it's sometimes distracting in this game and I find myself looking at other things than their faces when quest givers explain stuff to me in dialogues.
  23. I'm a game developer myself (I do 2d art) (not for Bioware though). To be fair I have to say I am really impressed with the look and polish of the game. The environments look awesome, the animations are a joy to watch, the color and contrast is well balanced, the user interface is beautiful and polished (although clearly inspired from Anarchy Online's UI style), the armor looks so good that no matter what my character is wearing and how the pieces are mixed, I always feel like she/he looks good (unlike the ghastly armor in WoW where it was a constant headache), the head meshes and face skins are very nice. And I could go on and on. On a purely visual basis, the only thing I can really complain about is the anatomy of some of the characters. They were always a bit lacking, even back when we started seeing the first screenshots and teasers. I'm really surprised that considering it's the character we stare at most, making it the most important visual aspect, that they would not have nailed it like they nailed everything else. *scratches head* So point being, let's not get too upset over this because there is much more good in this game than there is bad. Apparently you have had other disappointments as well. I have too, but these are still early days and I am confident that this game has nowhere to go but up to bigger and better things. Imagine all the money they're making with this! With that money they'll have the resources to fix and improve what is already an awesome game and the first MMO which has excited me this much since when WoW was released. thoddiver: Yeah my eyes kept going to the hands and arms as well, but I didn't do anything about them. I'd say the arms need to be a twinge longer and the hands themselves a bit wider and manlier. Thanks for your words of support, but knowing how much our devs are also restricted in making posts on forums and how controlled it is what one can and cannot say, I'd guess that even if they did read this post amongst the thousands of other posts out there, that they'd not be allowed to comment such things even if they wanted to. Liquidacid: Breast slider? Sure, as they long as they give us gals package sliders too. Girls have you noticed that some of the make characters are actually quite well... "put together"? *cough cough cough*
