  1. Most of you guys have failed to understand the post. I guess I could have worded it better. The issue was why play any of the other classes when these classes do everything so much better in pvp. Yeah I've played a lot of vanguard and powertech but that was just an example. I have also done pvp on other classes too. Even the op ones, I just didn't like them very much. Not because of play style, but just because I'd just rather be a bounty hunter and I always play tank. Obviously no one likes nerfs to their favorite class and yes you must adapt to the current meta. But you can't deny the insane burst and the insane heals in this game, and those three classes do it the best compared to the rest. No nerfs just buffs to compete.
  2. I've been playing this game since launch, and one of the only things I like to do is pvp. It gives me a nice adrenaline rush when I'm either saving people or topping damage in games. I did it so much people actually said "hi" to me in warzones. But after a year or so there are only three classes I see that are actually good at pvp: Snipers,Op healers, and Marauders. I'm not interested in any of them, besides the op healer. But mine isn't even max lvl yet. Hes like lvl 38. I'm sure all the other classes and specs are viable but nothing touches these three in pvp. I love my powertech and Vanguard but I can't compete with their numbers anymore. But at the same time I wouldn't want to have these strong pvp classes nerfed, just everything else buffed to compete. Doesn't even have to be damage. I would have accepted the drop in damage on my powertech in 2.0 if only I got maybe another defensive cooldown to handle overwhelming dps. Maybe I should just take a break until things get better. That should stop me from sounding like a whiner and getting hammered by people on the forums who don't even know me in real life. I'm actually a really nice guy
  3. Hello everyone, Ive been playing swtor since day 1 and by far the powertech and vanguard are my favorite classes. I was a very big fan of parakeet spec back when it was viable. It mixed the tank tree with the dps tree (pyro). Good defense with some decent sustsined damage. But after 1.2 it was no longer viable. Burst damage in general got a huge buff. Defense is less viable unless your protecting others. Since then i have been using only the shared damage trees for pvp. But recently i have been thinking about the viability of wearing tank gear on a powertech/ vanguard while in full dps spec or the other way around. Sorta like the tanksin setup. I just wanted some thoughts on this. From the greatest pvp community ever !

  5. I have a fully war hero geared Powertech. They are very mobile, almost all of their abilities are instant cast, they do some of the highest burst in the game going up the pyrotech tree, they are the best aoe tanks, but dont have very good defensive cooldowns. They sorta make up for this with nice passive stats and high on the move damage. In pve you can kite melee bosses, and in pvp you will top damage charts if played well. With that said they are very simple to play. Tanking is easier on a powertech because they can attack from range and have a few nice aoe attacks, and their damage rotation is also very simple. You spam flame burst, throw grenades, use your basic attack, rocket punch, and use railshot. Which is your main big hitter. Going as high as 6k plus on mobs, and 5k plus on other players if geared. Railshot gets reset alot and flame burst which does like 2k plus is spamable. Combine that with thermal grenade and dart, and you've done **** loads of damage on your target, followed by another reset on railshot, equals huge damage in just a few seconds. This is countered though with your ability to manage heat, and other player defensive cooldowns. But that only gives them a few extra seconds before they are dead.
  6. Vanguards and powertechs can kite mobs, guards or anything using melee can not. I've kited many encounters and took far less damage then if I was just standing there. Razer naga ftw.
  7. Have you ever tried kiting? You could pretty much kite any melee class, if speced right.
  8. Vanguards are the best tanks in the game. They have the best aoe control, can tank at range to avoid any heavy melee based damage (not all the time since many skills have you getting up close, but still possible to tank at range) and they can kite melee mobs, which helps you avoid huge amounts of potential damage while keeping aggro. Keybind yo stuff!
  9. This is actually true. There are way too many imps then reps. From my pvp experience from 10-49, most reps who are pvping are low lvled. Around 30 and under. Reps who use chat to communicate, usually are decent at pvp, but a lot of the time spend way to much time raging at the rest of the team then actually making a difference. Pre-made teams seem to develop way more on the imp side, where as the rep side see's mostly pugs. There's nothing you could really do to solve this, besides getting a few buddies online and faceroll imps with tactics over vent. I play on the rep side because I know im always going to be challenged, there's always going to be people who wanna kill me, so I gotta prove them wrong, and you get a great feeling after you win even though you are always hopelessly outnumbered.
  10. Vanguards are very much pvp material. My vanguard is my main pvp character, and I can pretty much go up against every class in the game. Some classes are a bit harder then others, but its all possible. lvl 50 pvp is very gear based though. As most lvl 50's will have really good gear with their health jacked up around 16k +. Your spec is also going to matter. I mostly spec into assault specialist, but that requires a lot of kiting, and you'll need to keybind most of your skills. Vanguards shine in huttball, since they can harpoon the ball carrier, guard their own ball carrier, or be the ball carrier because of their armor and defense, plus their charge skill storm is extremely useful. Try out these 2 hybrid specs. http://www.torhead.com/skill-calc#801ZMsrrobckzZrIMbzh.1 http://www.torhead.com/skill-calc#801GRGozRMoZ0MZbIbrzh.1
  11. Even with the flaws, I still love my trooper. I don't think I'm going to really play any other class as of right now. I have both a Vanguard and a commando. Although I prefer my Vanguard more, commando is still a beast. Vanguards are also really good at pvp. They've got enough tools to counter any class, high mitigation, high health, and close to high damage.
  12. Kryptorchid, the spec you posted helped out a lot. If armor is getting ignored a lot in pvp then I guess the armor buffs really arn't going to help out to much. I'm still trying to decide if puting points into defensive measure and degauss would be more usefull then static shield and nightvision scope. 13. I'm still pretty new to this game, but I love trying to come up with new interesting builds. With this spec I tired to focus on survivability and damage while still being mobile. http://db.darthhater.com/skill_calc/trooper/vanguard/#::f19de2fe2de2fef3efe4f2efefefdfe2f2cfe2: What do you guys think?
