  1. You can get better gear for PvP from PvP. You can get better gear for PvE from PvE or GTN.
  2. I think that the problem a few seem to be having is that they jumped into the game right away when they would have been better served having waited a year or so before joining. The few MMOs that I've played from beta I generally end up quitting a month or two after release. Why play those when I have other MMOs that I enjoy that have benefitted from several post-release years of additional development? By comparison the new MMOs are underdeveloped. And yet that is neither a fair nor logical comparison. The new ones simply haven't had the same time to evolve as the older ones. So far SWTOR has been an exception for me. I started with beta and several months later I'm still enjoying myself. I could stop briefly and return to a game that has had years to evolve after its release but I simply do not feel compeled to do so this time.
  3. This bothers me as well. I was thinking the same thing. They could also place a "lift off" button somewhere in the cockpit in case you chose "enter" but change your mind some time after you board.
  4. I'm sure that's true to an extent. I even saw a lot of this behaviour in FFXI. If I couldn't find a group in 30 minutes to an hour then I'd stop fishing with my flag up and start forming a group myself. A lot of people refused to do that and I always found it funny when I'd check to see who was LFP and there was the makings of a full party or two just waiting around with their flags up. This isn't the problem I'm experiencing in SWTOR though. I simply see no need at all to group for the leveling process. It isn't so much that I don't want to group. It's just that there's no need other than to run optional content that I don't really care about. I view putting a group together in this game (pre-endgame) as more of a hassle than what it's worth when I can easily go out and solo the class quests, side quests, and bonus quests on a given planet in a couple of days. For me there's just no incentive currently in place that would make me want to group up rather than solo. And it's not that I'm anti-social. I do interact with other players. I offer help and suggestions in General Chat from time to time. If there's someone waiting in line for a boss to clear a mission I do group up with those people so that one of us won't have to wait for the respawn. Aside from that? Leveling is already too fast playing solo. I don't need the extra xp from grouping. Gear drops I get playing solo are already good enough. I don't really need anything extra that I could get by grouping. Heroics and FPs really only offer me more story content that I can easily get on my own if I really want to experience it. Just outlevel the area and go back later if I feel like it. Really, the only incentive I have right now to group is at endgame. And if they add a good amount of solo endgame content then I probably won't bother to raid at all. I couldn't care less if the rewards for raiding are better than the solo endgame content. If I'm not raiding in the first place then I probably don't need that gear. I'm not looking for solo endgame rewards to be comparable to that of group content. An overhaul of the social point system might be enough to entice me. Perhaps after they add medium and heavy armor to the social vendors. But also the way the points are currently rewarded would have to be revised for me to take interest. The few times that I've grouped I got no sp because there were no conversation rolls involved with turning in the quest. If what you're saying is even true (care to provide any proof of your claim?) these people could simply be fed up with grouping due to their own personal experiences with those features that they adamantly oppose. They probably weren't always against grouping and perhaps they are looking for a game that will compel them to group once again. In my case, the first MMO that I played, FFXI, was also the one that I played the longest and grouped the most. I pretty much had to group in that game to do anything but this usually didn't bother me because I nearly always had fun in those groups. Nearly every other MMO that I've played I chose not to group for the most part. In most of those MMOs it was largely unnecessary. It was more chalenging in some of them to tackle the content solo and I enjoy that kind of challenge. In some I just didn't feel like grouping after having it forced upon me so much in FFXI. Having the option to not group up for every little challenge provided a great sense of freedom. More often than not though, whenever I did try to group up in other MMOs I simply had a terrible experience. Usually I would have several bad group experiences without getting a good one and I would quit trying to group in that game. AoC and SWTOR are two exceptions so far. I haven't grouped very much in either game but when I have it's been a pleasent enough experience. But aside from social interaction what's the point? I get plenty of social interaction outside of grouping as it is. I don't need to be in a group to interact with the other players in the game. Players like myself need some sort of incentive to group in this game. Preferably a pull as a push would likely just drive me away. Otherwise, I'll just be content in playing the game solo til endgame and those that actually want to group during the leveling process just for the sake of grouping will likely do so with fewer players in their pool to group with.
  5. I'm one of those people that don't have a 50 yet. I've been messing around with all of the ACs and all of the crew skills to see what I like and what I don't. It has nothing to do with rushing or feeling rushed, I also think that the leveling is too fast.
  6. I agree with this even though I never did group much in CoH. I had several awful experiences with groups in that game so when my RL friends stopped playing I just played solo. In theory though, I think the carrot approach would work well in SWTOR, but it may take some adjustments. Right now, I have no incentive at all to group from 1-50. I don't mind skipping Heroics or FPs. I haven't encountered any bosses in class missions that I couldn't get past eventually. Whether it was a change in tactic needed or I had tried tackling the content a level or two early, I've never felt the need to seek help. What incentives do they offer players like myself currently? Better loot drops with more players. The gear I get from quest rewards, comms, solo drops, or crafting are more than sufficient for the leveling process. What else do they offer as incentive? Increased XP gain with a group? Leveling solo in this game is already fast and easy compared to leveling solo in nearly any other MMO. I'd rather take my time and enjoy the content than hit the cap in a week or two. The only way I could see an incentive system working here is if they made solo leveling still viable but a good bit slower than it is currently. That way the idea of leveling a bit faster in a group is actually enticing. It's probably too late to make such an adjustment in this game though without upsetting a large portion of the player base. So, barring an adjustment in the rate of solo xp gain, what carrot could they dangle to encourage me to group more?
  7. Why waste time waiting in fleet when there's enough soloable content to level all the way to cap? Besides, I always see a lot of people getting groups for Heroics and "tough bosses" planetside. Present and accounted for.
  8. Would you feel better if instead of "red shields" barring your way the structure simply had its blast doors down and no discernable way to get inside?
  9. I think that a good number of them came from games like FFXI where it was nearly impossible to get anything done outside of a full group. Anything that was worth doing at least. Many would spend hours looking for a group just to grind out a few low or mid levels. A lot would end up spending much less time in a group than they would looking for a group. This wasn't my experience. I had little trouble getting groups. But I know a lot that quit for this reason and I always heard people complaining about it in game. Many felt that it wouldn't have been so bad if soloing had been more viable so that they could continue leveling while LFP. But the game was designed in such a way as to force grouping past level 14-18. And in most situations a full and balanced group of six was necessary. I think that essentially a lot of these people just don't want grouping to be necessary for every little thing. On the other hand, if the developer makes it possible for players to solo all the way to max level then many of us will. In this case, if it's not necessary to group then why bother looking for a group? In SWTOR we have plenty of content that requires grouping if we intend to do it at-level. The problem is that it's optional. We don't need to pass that content to level up or to get gear that we need to level further. The game just gives us very little incentive to group until we get to end-game. And for those that don't intend to raid there's little to no incentive even then.
  10. For me it's missing a relaxing time sink activity that I can engage in regardless the amount of time I have to play. Crafting comes kind of close but there's little character involvement. The companions do all the work apart from desynthesis. What I'm looking for is something like fishing. I can go someplace, drop a line in the water, and chat with guildies or friends while I sit there killing time. In many of the other MMOs that I've played I spent some time fishing whenever I just didn't feel like leveling or grouping that day but still wanted to get in the game and relax. I do enjoy killing mobs and occasionally other players but I don't find those activities all that relaxing really.
  11. Don't remind me. Tanking in FFXI was pure hell at times.
  12. I think that a lot of players are just soloing their way to 50 or duoing with a friend or spouse. I've found that I can do all of the class quests, side quests, and bonus series in a given area and I'm at least a couple of levels ahead of where I need to be for the next planet. If I feel like soloing I just skip most of the heroics although there's usually one or two that I can solo before leaving the planet. But I don't really need to do any of them or the FPs for that matter since the regular missions give more than enough levels for the next area.
  13. No, but it's reasonable to expect that a game development company that is known to make versions for Mac OS might have an interest in making another.
  14. Oh good so they are going ahead with multi-spec instead of just dual-spec. I'm looking forward to that. Now if I can just figure out which AC for each class I favor...
