  1. So let me see if I understand this properly... The patch to nerf companions and slow the leveling process (all fights will now take longer) broke the game so we are stuck in extended maintenance. Once we finally get back in the experience will be more frustrating since companions will be less effective and it will take you longer to get through the fights and see the story. Huh... Too bad this all happened. I hope it works out for them in the long run.
  2. It sounds like you have unlimited time to play. Back before I was a parent with a job I felt the same way. Not everybody is that lucky though. For some people, like myself, when they do this it keeps me out of the game for the entire day. When they do it over and over again during short time period I can barely play at all - as this week has turned out to be.
  3. I'm american but my only window to play is in the early morning before my wife and kids are up - so my prime time is exactly the same as yours and weekly maintenance locks me out of the game during my only window to play. I really wish they would move the downtime schedule around rather than impacting the same group of players every time.
  4. For people like myself that get a 3 hour window of game time each day this sucks. If most of that time is spent with game down AGAIN for the fourth time this week during the same window, yeah I'm pissed off. I want to play the game not write on the forums. If I had unlimited time this would be no bid deal but I don't. This from a company trying to get you to sub and not be on preferred status. Way to go.
  5. What a lousy attitude and obviously from someone with lots of free time to play when they choose. So basically, because I work during the day and spend time with my spouse and kids in the evening these types of game aren't for me? Yep - I get a few hours in before work in the morning (pacific time) and that's it. I'v been playing MMO's for years and I get by just fine except when excessive downtime keeps me out of the game more than once or twice a week. I was hoping that since this was a newer game that they would have had similar server architecture to Rift that has little downtime at ANY time of the day. Rift isn't (for me) anywhere near as fun of a game though so I guess I'll just post here in the forums when I can't play the actual game...
  6. I agree and you aren't alone. I'm a director in the CR department of a large corporation and I get my fill of being "social" all day at work. I come home and I'm a husband and Dad - which is great. When I finally get some downtime when I can play a computer game the last thing I want to do is deal with strangers. The only grouping I do anymore is when my wife or brother are online. Before anyone flames me I should say that I understand that the social aspect is why lots of people play this game or MMO's in general. It's just not my reason - I'm playing because this is all we are going to get for a KOTOR III game. So, I know for the raiding and grouping community the merges were probably great but I liked a little less wrangling for mobs with the lighter population servers. I'm just hoping it all evens out eventually.
  7. The issue is that some people actually see these as characters in a role playing game (RPG) and not just a toon in some shooting game. I can't even get home to see how many names I've lost yet and by the time I get a chance log on the densely populated new "super servers" will have even fewer naming options left. This was poorly done. If Bioware had at least explained how this would play out beforehand then at least the shock factor would have been minimized.
  8. I've been mostly solo in MMO's since I first tried them in 2007 and some work better this way than others but SWtOR is pretty decent if you just want to play the game on your own. The companion system makes taking on tougher solo encounters challenging but possible - but some classes are better at this than others. I like the multiplayer environment (GTN, seeing other players in the world) but my group experiences have been pretty lackluster - most people are in way more of a hurry than I am. The best groups I have had have been as a duo team with either my brother or my wife. Soloing though is my favorite way to play. There are plenty of posts out there that seem to think if you solo you should just play a single player RPG, but those are wrong for two important reasons - 1) this is as close to KotOR 3 as we will ever get, and 2) no single player RPG will continue to be updated with new content until the servers shut down. The second is why I started soloing MMO's in general. As time goes on there will be plenty of solo stuff to do either by leveling alts or with new content for you maxed characters.
  9. For me it has been inconsistent for the last few months. Some cutscenes I can take many screenshots but for most others nothing is saved at all. Sometimes I will even see a slight pause in the action that in other games is always an indicator of a screenshot being taken - only here it only results in actual screenshot being saved every once in awhile. I've lost a lot of moments I would have liked to remember...
  10. I'm mostly solo in PvE but I do like to group up for Warfronts. For PvE I like to solo so I can take the game at my own pace and enjoy the story. Also, I've never desired to be an actual raider in any MMO I've played.
  11. I want to thank ReiKai for both of his/her posts. They have reinvigorated me to go back to my light side inquisitor and finish playing though his story. I have been bouncing between mid-level character lately and trying to decide which to take to 50 first - I feel that time spent leveling my Assassin will be well worth the time.
  12. So communication is what separates PvP from PvE grouping? I guess you don't pug very often because there is often about as much communication there as in a typical warfront. The argument about this being equivalent to getting PvP commendations for doing flashpoints is weak since we are talking about cosmetic items and not progression gear. Social Points for cosmetic (aka "fun" items) should be awarded for doing any social activity regardless of whether it's PvE or PvP. Why it is restricted to PvE social activity still seems short sighted to me.
  13. Let's also not forget that to get the space mission cosmetic gear you also need to grind social points. Two separate grinds for cosmetic gear is ill thought out. The gear is pretty nice looking but not really worth two separate grinds to get it. I also agree with a few of the other posters that PvP is also a social activity and why that activity is excluded from granting social points seems like an oversight as well.
  14. I sure hope they add one eventually. It would be nice if they also added some of the features like the aged looks some of the NPC's have. I'm an older player and there is only one head option I've found that makes him look like he's in his forties and that is only as a human. I'm guessing age features would fall under scars or complexion if they are ever added to the game.
  15. I'm in the same boat. I PvP for my social interaction in the game and so I have no Social Points at all. In the scavenger hunt event we just had I could earn the tokens to buy the gear but could not equip it because it was all Social I. Maybe one day Warzone activity will provide the same access.
  16. My disability is nothing as severe as the other posters but I have carpal tunnel in both wrists. That can make playing online games challenging at times. Using a mouse is what aggravates the condition the worst so I play on a laptop and use the touchpad - no mouse movement for me. As a result I seldom group anymore since I got tired of having to explain why I turn using the keyboard. That being said though, once I started playing a Gunslinger I was sold. The lack of inherent mobility in the class is perfect for my condition. The "turret" style of play works great for using a keyboard to move and allows me to enjoy the game for longer stretches than with other classes. As long as I wear my wrist-supports I can actually play for several hours at a time.
  17. My Gunslinger is Saxe Gotha.
  18. I can see where you're coming from about the choices but I guess I add my own internal dialog in to smooth out the bumps. That was the only way I could keep questing in games like WoW and LotRO from seeming static. I guess I just like the way the light side choices are playing out with the Sith Warrior. Just to be fair to you though I have only played the Sith Warrior and Inquisitor up to the end of Chapter 1. The whole thing may unravel into Chapter's 2 and 3 so I am not speaking from extended experience with the entire story. I'm going to see it though to the end though.
  19. I figure I might as well disagree with you here as well as in the other thread. If you only find enjoyment or find the game "funny" when you are killing for no reason then I can see why you seem to dislike the LSS choices. Going Darkside is a choice - that was the point of the movies this game is based upon and I am glad it is that way in the game as well.
  20. Well, as you have played both Light and Dark to 50 that is a valid point about how your choices impact the actual game. However, as a player my choices also impact how I see my character in a very significant way. In this game our characters get to have something of a personality (albeit the one we choose for them) and personally I am really enjoying the Light Side path. The way the Sith Warrior story is written you are hardly like a Jedi. It's a unique experience all its own.
  21. I agree with Dallayna. I think the Light Side Sith Warrior story has it's own appeal but I can also see how it't not for everyone. For me, however, playing as a LSS is my favorite story so far and looks to be the first I will take to 50. That's the great thing about SWtOR though - it can be many things depending on how you want to play it. By contrast the Jedi Knight I have (only level 15) is very grey. He kills his enemies and so has about as many Dark Side as Light Side points. I think the ability to define your own alignment is what sets this game apart form all the other MMO's out there.
