Personally, (biochem implant seller), Im not really willing to waste an hour or 2 getting mats so I can make level 21 implants that most likely wont sell for the 33k/150k (normal purple/mastercrafted) that i charge for the level 49 implants that i sell, so it comes down to:
get high level mats for 1 hour and make 70k-500k a day or,
get low level mats for 1 hour and make 30k-50k a day....
Now factor in time spent doing dailies just as much for the creds as for the rewards because repair bills on ops/hm's dont come cheap if your all trying to get gear for new 50's. Then you have your PVP dailies to get done. And lastly the ops/hm's that you spent time earlier in the day getting creds for any repairs.
Some would also say "but all you need to do is send your companions out on missions to get the mats you need" to which i must say you dont know biochem very well then, out of 5 missions that bring back level 3 stuff, at least 3 are for mats that you can buy from the vendor, and sods law is if you need the level 3 compounds the 2 remaining missions are for level 3 samples, and even if your lucky and one mission is for compounds, you have to roll a dice and hope your companion comes back with the compound you require.
As for not understanding why they sell when there are rakata one's that can be gained from belsavis/ilum, without getting in game i cant give definite numbers, but i know i would end up losing a lot of stats (about 80 power total and some willpower, not to mention crit i think) just to gain some endurance, which i think is pathetic for a dps. Maybe the stats balance out with full rakata gear but still, i'm meant to do more damage, not live longer, that job belongs to the tank.
