  1. I'm USA, Mountain Time Zone. What is the best server to join. Ideally it is the server closest to you. However, given that internet technology is improving daily and mmo devs are doing everything they can to minimalize packet sizes you should be able to play on any U.S. server with very little latency. I live in Hawai'i but play on an east coast server with very few connection issues. I want to play the game as well, what server communities support OOC without flaming me. From snobs to flamers, you're going to get hassled for an innocent question in general chat or a simple mistake while grouping, but the best part about RP servers is community. For every player that treats you like crap there's 20 that will do what they can to help and support you. I know little to nothing about Star Wars lore past the movies, does this make it impossible for me to roleplay? Movies are more than enough for basic Star Wars knowledge for every profession. A few of the characters may require a little extra reading. Importantly, read up on races before anything else. Until you're up to speed on game lore (provided by certain zones, quests, kills or datacrons) just know that you are in a time period several thousand years before the movies take place, so there shouldn't be any references. I'm sure some EU garbage author has penned in Shmi Skywalker's great great great great grandfather into Old Republic literature by now, but don't feel bad that you have no idea who Darth Kinda-Looks-Like-Vader-But-Better is. Stick to the rules of the genre and have fun. Will I be Flamed to high **** if I dont know Star Wars Lore? See above, just do your best to stay in the boundaries. You've seen the movies so yer good. Will there be people willing to help me pickup Star Wars Lore? Plenty of awesome links provided by forum users above. Wookieepedia is your best friend when it comes to this stuff.
  2. Well put. Lucas made it clear he was having fun with this legacy when it came to character names; Porkins Ponda Baba Greedo Oola Poggle I could list the goofier names from that bile and rot better known as EU (Luuke Skywalker) but that list would take way too long.
  3. I'm sure it's been meantioned a few times over but I just wanna add my vote; Customizable companions. Whether it's just a one time deal or has to be earned somehow.
  4. Hehe, as I read this I was imagining some stereotypical movie nerd with thick glasses and an overbite hunched over in black robes.
  5. ARARARARARGH! You can't have a character named Bob!!!1 It has to be something like Rex Spanner or Darth Brooks!!!1 RABBLERABBLERABBLE
  6. Whichever one of you yahoos took the name from my previous post, you misspelled "Fett". Just saw yer level 1 running around Hutta.
  7. I catch a lot of flak with my bounty hunter, Bangtangofett, and my sith warrior, Lord Tyrannosaurus. Sometimes you just gotta roll with the punches.
  8. Biolink won't be able to do much if the weakest link in the chain is your ISP. Your best bet is to download the patch 3rd party, it's what I had to do when I was away from home and wanted to play SWG in my down time.
  9. I know I'm going to get bashed for this by the greater half of the board but if a player bothers to roll a character with a garbage name on an RP server and strut around like they're too good for roleplay on an RP server then that's an obvious spit in the face and a blatant disrespect to the community. Developers have gone out of their way to accomidate the roleplayer niche by providing them with designated RP servers. They still offer PVE and PVP servers to those who have no desire to roleplay. It wasn't a business decision, RPers would still pay to play regardless. Across a few MMOs I've seen non- roleplayers treated as hostile, meaning requests for groups or any kind of assistance went ignored. If not that they're ousted in global chat and we all know how those arguments get dragged and drawn out, usually ending in "LOLRP" nonsense from a player who made the conscious decision to select an RP server among the other choices and invest time on their character. The server's community ends up split, animosity builds. We've all seen it before. They're not going to force a paying customer to roleplay on an RP server, nor move them to a more accomodating server. All I ask from CS reps is to at least heavily enforce the naming policy, like adding more than a the rediculously lone "Report Spam" feature. (Racists and hate spewers can relax as long as they're not spamming, apperently). It irks many players to see garbage floating above another player's head when they're trying to enjoy their game. We don't have to group with them, We don't even have to interact with them in any way - and I won't - but the least anyone can do is put two seconds into naming their character.
  10. Howdy, My alter ego is a Betraeus, a light side oriented Sith Warrior, following that path in both main story and RP. I haven't had an opportunity to RP with many of you folks yet, but I've had spoke with a lot of you in /ooc chat. Good times. Feel free to hit me up if we bump shoulders in Fleet somewheres. My roleplay preferences include my character's self-awareness that he is in a video game as well as dragons and vampires. See you in game!
  11. I like this idea, I hope it spreads throughout more of the RP servers. Anyone on Ebon want to follow suit lemme know. I can reroll a new toon for this purpose.
  12. I'm for chat bubbles but with the option to disable them. By the time they implement them, if they even do, most players who have no interest in them will probably be annoyed by the screen clutter wandering through their respective hubs or during a battle.
  13. As you get more and more into roleplay throughout the next few months you'll notice folks within a typical community will have quite a variety of roleplay styles and preferences, which adds greatly to the experience as opposed to a narrowing few archetypes.
  14. The key is respect other players. But the fact that you took the effort to make this post I doubt that will be an issue with you. No matter what, people will find a reason to complain about your particular style. From lore nazis who lack the common courtesy to overlook small discrepancies or tactfully correct you, to elitest chodes who only interact with people of the same level; you're going to have folks that ruin RP on both sides of the fence. There's about a thousand different bits of advice anyone can give on RP but in all its a learning experience and it takes time, rush it and it becomes a chore. Create a concept for your character and roll with it. Change and adapt as necessary and have fun.
  15. I'm with the "too early" crowd but now that a lot of pre-release players are settled and established RP should be picking up and then finally mainstream once post-release players get comfortable. With me its a distraction when trying to level and get a feel for the game. I typically don't group until level 10 in most MMOs because my extensive XP and junk loot grind usually conflicts with most other's playstyle. I usually wont RP until around level 20 because I'll be able to meet my character's concept through items, equipment and abilities much easier than just settling with a plastic sword and bantha hide tunic while attempting to portray some battle-hardened Sith lord or trooper. However, it is always good to wander around and see low level RP, I don't want to discourage that at all. It adds character to the server and makes it feel more like home. I just wanted to share how I personally go about it and perhaps why a few others feel the same.
  16. Two out of the three servers I rolled characters on were RP servers and had a heavy to full population well before the release date, and these were chock full of players who made it blatantly obvious they had no interest in roleplay. It's just one of those unfortunate things that you have to deal with on RP servers. Though, it's always fun to see players with names like Captcandypants spam general for a flashpoint or heroic group for thirty minutes and nobody answers.
  17. Former Starsider resident here. Played the last few years there after my guild in Flurry left for wow once the NGE hit. Bet RP community I've ever experienced in all of yahoo games I've played. I'm currently settled in Ebony Hawk, RP-PVE.
  18. Count me in as well Name: Betraeus Class: Sith Warrior (Still not sure which way I wanna go with him even though I already hit 10) Faction: Empire Be warned, I rolled a hippy-sith for this one.
