  1. I think folks forget that Star Wars is targeted at kids. For reminders, may I point out wookies, ewoks, and Jar Jar? Though they were horrible cartoons by any standard, I have fond memories of the droids and ewoks cartoons as a kid. So is it silly? Would I break out in hysterical laughter? Yes and yes, I would. Also, I would appreciate that it gets kids interested in Star Wars that much quicker. -Kai-Lunn
  2. The stuttering has affected me off and on since late August when I got my beta invite. Patch 1.1 made it so much worse. -Kai-Lunn
  3. 1 try. Sent. Watchman. That said, I had 2 levels on him. -Kai-Lunn
  4. I wouldn't mind playing a Voss. I love how they look. -Kai-Lunn
  5. I have the issue with both Firefox and IE. Sub page says no sub. Billing page says 1 month recurring. -Kai-Lunn
  6. Performance monitor on my PC was saying 43 threads separated out by two PIDs (process IDs). One PID had 17 threads. The other PID had 26 threads. The two PIDs matched the PIDs of the two SW processes. From a casual look, it looks like it was balancing the work across the four cores as all four cores were reporting roughly 50% utilization. After I killed SW, CPU utilization dwindled to nothing. (Less than ~5% across all cores.) No, I don't have a screen cap. (Yeah yeah, screenshot or it didn't happen. Bleh.) -Kai-Lunn
  7. Sure it is. It's C canon! Though it should be noted that "officially", all mechanics in any and all games (including nonstandard lightsaber color crystals) are non-canon by definition. The main plot(s) for the game is still canon however. Ask and ye shall receive! Both pink and rainbow are listed. Kinda silly, but I believe the whole thread is silly. -Kai-Lunn
  8. Oh yay, this topic again. My TL;DR is at the bottom if you wish to skip to it. Except your premise is based off how rare purple is historically. Other colors have not been as distinguished because the color was common. Had purple been common, it would not have been as distinguished. Since the invention of modern chemistry and currently technological capability, this doesn't fly. *Especially* when you take into consideration that the SW setting has technology far beyond our own. And there's the small fact that in the SW setting, you can create sabers of any color with synthetic crystals; for instance, most Sith crystals, all Imperial Knight sabers, and Luke's green one. That may be your motivation, but that doesn't apply to everyone. If I want a purple crystal (or any other crystal) it's because I like the color. Luckily, I happen to like the color blue, to the exclusion of all else save white/silver. Then there are those fashionistas who care about the color because for some reason, their lightsaber needs to match/complement their clothing. If you are referring to the use of Durindfire crystals you are quite correct. That said, the sale of them helped fund the Death Star, so they can't be that rare. And this completely ignores the entire order of Imperial Knights. One could argue that their blade is white, not silver, but it's close enough I should think. Your analogy doesn't work with everyone. When I graduated college, my joy had nothing to do with the accomplishment, and everything to do with the fact that I was done and never had to go back. If I'm an exception, there are other exceptions out there. Generalizations are not helpful here. I don't mind putting effort into something, but this cosmetic issue isn't something I am willing to waste my time on. (My armor on the other hand...) EU definitely counts. This is an EU game that is a successor to an EU game whose mechanical system came from a game system designed to make EU games who itself had an antecedent in a prior system that made EU games. (The progression is West End/d6 SW RPG -> WotC d20 SW RPG -> KotOR I/II -> TOR, if that was otherwise unclear or you are unfamiliar with the history.) Dismissing EU is silly in light (shadow?) of the mountain of EU it's buried under. Yes, per Lucas you are correct. However, full EU SW canon disagrees with you. And that's setting aside all of the non-canon labeled materials. Keep in mind that canonicity, when not coming from The Flanneled One's mouth/direct work, is determined by LucasArts at The Flanneled One's behest. The system in the link is their creation. So if you don't like it, feel free to argue with them. Next quote would have gone here, but I lost it and I am not searching through the thread to find it. Someone pointed out that purple was only added due to Sam Jackson's ego. In light of that, I should think the OP's request is perfectly in line with SW history. Finally, as I have mentioned before, I have no horse in this race. I love blue and I generally play light side. This is a non issue to me. However, I am not so arrogant to think that people should be limited to my preferences. In fact, every time (including beta) that I have had a lightsaber out of the normal "movie" color scheme, I've corrected that at my first available opportunity. I like my Jedi to use blue (green in a pinch), and my Sith to wield red. TL;DR: I prefer chocolate (blue sabers), but I see no reason why other flavors (colors) such as rocky road (purple), vanilla (cyan), or any other flavor (color) shouldn't be widely available. -Kai-Lunn edit: clarity
  9. I fully support this suggestion. There have been times on my Jedi (both Sentinel and Shadow), that I've wanted to do this. Usually when I've been waiting for someone. -Kai-Lunn
  10. I played EQ, starting about 6 months before Kunark was released. (It was a late Christmas present from a friend who played.) I don't really miss it. As a matter of fact, the guild I play with in TOR is the same guild. It's changed a lot since then. When EQ2 & WoW came out there was a bit of a split that came back together in WoW. Intermittently we tried other games, but WoW was our common denominator. Just before Cata came out, our guild population dropped off and didn't survive much beyond that And now we're back together in TOR. It's nice seeing and playing with people you know and like after a 1 year break. I have to admit, without the forced socialization of EQ, I wouldn't still be playing with these people. But after you play an MMO with someone 8 - 16 hours a day, every day for years, you become close. Heck, our "guild mom" sends us Christmas fudge most years. (And it is delicious!) That said, I'll never play an EQ-style game again. I don't have the time to devote. And I work off hours, so playing *with* people I know (and trust) is almost rare. Furthermore: I have no interest in working 8-10 hours at my job only to come home and go to work in my current MMO. I have no patience for losing a week's worth of work for 1 death. I'll never play a game where I have to sit LFG for 6 hours and log off with nothing done. I'll never do another quest that requires a spawn with a 4 - 10 day respawn. I'll never race another guild to another boss mob. I don't want it that bad, and they can have it. I didn't really think it (EQ style gaming) was fun then. I kept playing for the people I was associating with. So yes, the community was better. I agree that having a map and in game quest directions does make for lazy people. I've seen it happen, even though my EQ trained brain prevents me from it. Unless I am in a new area, I always know where I am, even if it's not the most direct route. Same with people knowing their class and avoiding death. My early experiences with EQ generally make skill with my class and not dying a point of pride. At the same time, a small death penalty has generally lead me to be more creative (and successful). On the other hand, easy death penalties have made it easier to succeed, so the skill really isn't there. TL;DR: EQ's punishing gameplay did make for a better players and better community. It sucked for just about everything else, imho. -Kai-Lunn
  11. He is the Jedi Knight healer companion. -Kai-Lunn
  12. Nar Shaddaa's bonus series is set up this way too, mid 20s planet (actually a moon) and bonus series is 32ish Republic side. 35ish Imp side. Admittedly, in the case of Nar Shaddaa, there are quests to take you back there at the appropriate level, and the questgiver is easy to locate. I agree the bonus series for Alderaan quests need a bit more breadcrumbs considering the quest giver is so out of the way. -Kai-Lunn
  13. As I have posted elsewhere, I'm in the middle of the argument. As a Carnage (Combat) Marauder in Beta, I didn't have any real problems except with the boss fight in Baras' stronghold on Corellia. So far on my (Watchman) Jedi Sent, the only real problem I've had is the Sith Harrowers on Tat. I say "real problems", on the basis that I had problems with other mobs when I wasn't paying attention, didn't have the right/properly leveled gear, and/or was trying to solo (w/ my companion) mobs that I should have had help on. That said, I do think the class has a few issues. Damage isn't really one of them. I firmly believe that there are some talents and abilities that could be streamlined. I also think that some of the mechanics of the class could be streamlined. I also think that Combat and Focus should be as viable as Watchman. But overall, I think Sentinels, and by extension Marauders, are in a good place. They just need some polish on the rough edges. Edit to avoid a doublepost: Possibly. Since getting her, I've run almost exclusively with Kira and the only equal level Champions/Bosses I have not been able solo are the ones in Heroics and World Bosses/Champions. Oh, and I suppose the one near the red 'cron in the Jedi Temple, since I was grouped with a guildy who wanted to do the heroic there and then get the 'cron. -Kai-Lunn
  14. I've been having a different issue, so I really can't confirm yours. But my issue might be related to yours. I'll hit a button and it won't respond. I can hit an ability and it just won't fire. Hit it several times, the button even flickers like it's being pressed. I usually have to hit a different ability, and come back to the flaked out ability. -Kai-Lunn
  15. These are the only mobs I've really had any difficulty with. They seem to fight more like bosses than elites. Only one of mine went immune. When I tried to run and kite, he kept up with me and just ate me alive. I even had 3 levels on them. That said, except for the second one (who went immune), I took them first try. -Kai-Lunn
  16. I noticed the bustle early on. Oddly, in the combat stance it appears to disappear completely and looks like a normal fall of cloth. My first thought was clipping issues. It would be nice if it could be fixed. Once you see it, you can't unsee it. -Kai-Lunn
  17. Keep in mind that if you see a green piece somewhere, there *is* a craftable orange version. Bold mine. Though it's not mentioned here, all the blue pieces I've seen have a green equivalent. I wouldn't be surprised if there is a moddable version of the blue chest we saw upthread. That said, due to the rarity of orange hoodless robes, I've been using a piece of Smuggler gear (RD-03B Coordination Jacket) from Reicovis, the Specialty Goods vendor on Nar Shaddaa. It doesn't look all that "Jedi", but it looks better (to me) than the hooded robes. It even matches okay with the Jedi gear I am wearing. -Kai-Lunn Edit: Clarity and structure.
  18. The only ones I've found are quest related. -Kai-Lunn
  19. I noticed it and reported it in Beta. I thought it was quite funny. There's a point later on Voss where you have the light side option of admitting you let him live. -Kai-Lunn
  20. Yes and no. "Originally" that may have been the intent. But as EU has expanded, that's no longer true. For example: "The Jedi Path" is written in character as a collaboration of several Jedi masters, and annotated by Yoda, Thane, Dooku, Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan, Anakin, Ahsoka, Sidious, and Luke. The book itself is an instructional primer teaching a Jedi student what it means to be, dress, and act like a Jedi. There's lots of little things it covers. Force and lightsaber techniques, training, how a student is selected for padawan training, knight trials, and Force using/sensitive creatures, other Force traditions, and more I'm likely forgetting. There is also an entire chapter devoted to the different types of Jedi. As written, the masters writing the text all but come out and say, "Once you're a Knight, you'll choose one of these paths or be chosen for one of these paths." Shadows, Sentinels, Consulars, Guardians, Sages, Seers, etc are all mentioned. It's a nice light read, and lots of fun. Even as a student Dooku was a bit of a prig, judging by his annotations. Though, Luke comes across pretty arrogant as well. -Kai-Lunn
  21. <---- Beta tester. We reported bugs. There's a bunch of bugs we reported that made it to early access and even live. Some bugs that I've had since early release, I didn't have in beta. That's one of the problems with bugs. They are sometimes inconsistent in their application. (Tiny Satele and Taris for instance.) -Kai-Lunn
  22. I admit, I steamrolled him. I had 2 levels on him. He never got me below half. IIRC, Kira was a 25% or so. Just leveling casually, and doing the Taris bonus quests got me to 26. He was 24 when I faced him. I honestly had more probs with Lord Praven due to his throws and PBAEs. I also had interrupting issues due to spiky lag I was having. -Kai-Lunn
  23. Add me to the two monitors and multitasking crowd. Funny thing is, I often play and browse the forums at the same time. Playing on only one monitor just isn't the same after you've had two. -Kai-Lunn
  24. Go to the crew skill window (N), press the button for the cybertech skill near the companion you want to use and it will show what you can make. Click a recipe you want, the craft button to make the item is in the lower right of the skill window. You can queue up to 5 items this way. You will lose your companion for the duration of the craft. Once you have multiple characters, you can eventually send multiples on different crafting runs. They will pull mats from your inventory, or bank/ship storage. Edit: Advanced tip: Once you have multiple companions, a dropdown field will appear in the lower right near the craft button. You can use this to chance the companion who is going to craft the next item. -Kai-Lunn
  25. The armoring rating will will modify the armor value as an absolute, it doesn't add on to the existing item's stats. That is to say, if the armor has a base rating of 12, and you install an armoring mod that provides 40 armor, the total armor should be 40 not 52. As far as seeing a discrepancy between two items with the exact same mods, that's part of the delay in tooltip updates from beta. The fix is to reload your UI (control U twice), zone, or equip it/unequip it a few times. Similarly, immediately after acquiring a new ability, if you mouseover the button it may show the older rank even though it has actually updated. Again, zoning or reloading the UI will force the tooltips to update. The best explanation of gear and the way it works: http://www.swtor.com/blog/some-clarifications-item-modifications -Kai-Lunn
