The design ethic has been flawed in ToR since the start. There has been hundreds of posts/threads over the course. The design team had a chance to go back to titles like 'Golden Age of the Sith' 'Tales of the Jedi' et al and give ToR it's own unique identity with inside the design continuity of Star Wars.... But they didn't, and i can only speculate that they were scared to alienate potential subs through an unfamiliar look and feel to the mainstream (where the game is aimed). Thus creating the confusing mish mash of designs that we've been inflicted with from the beginning. And as far as I can see, as long as the team play the generic fantasy card design this will not get any better.

Not too many of you have a clue about Star Wars ship design/modelling. Especially ANYONE that picks the crappy rip-off IA ship - it's an insult to Star Wars space ship design. The IA ship is almost a re-skinned blackbird, it shows no thought or process other than some crappy design team that are short on ideas. It shouldn't be in the game full stop. The Fury again is almost a direct rip off of the TIE Interceptor - I can re-create these ships in 3 steps to their orignal shapes. Another cheap and shoddy decision from the loldesign team. - and if you want proof of a 3 step process - for the Fury flip out the wings, blow-up the koch-pit and viola. The only ship design wise I have time for is the Mantis - [terrible interior] It shows at least some proper degression from the Firespray class. Although all of the ships are out of time as far as over-all design goes. What a ridiculous conclusion - The prequels were hated every bit as much by the mainstream audience as they were by the hardcore fans. The only difference being the mainstream flock such as yourself moved on...

Nothing wrong with the Ewoks at all. And for the most part they got trounced scattering all roads and directions. ROTJ arguably had better writing than the other 2 Star Wars movies. Although acting wasn't as good and maybe a little bit of complacency had crept in by this point. I remember watching this back in '83 being absoloutly glued to it. With subtitles for Jabba while his voice boomed fear in the viewer. Or the Bouush scene. While I do agree Ewoks were a step next a more marketable toy, their inclusion in no way marred an other wise fantastic end to that particular trilogy. And indeed this hate for them has really only came about in the last 10 years.. drunken debates with aquaintances over the years were more centred on the soft death of Boba Fett.... what the hell is up with that family!!!

While Splinter was on the shelf after A New Hope. I think the flavour of what I suggested is closer to the source than the EU after The Thrawn trilogy. Even if canonically it's considered secondary. Regarding the poster that mentioned the X-Wing series - Stackpole's writing I felt was a bit too militaristic for me to enjoy within the universe. Although the comic was pretty decent.

As with anything that expands, quality seems to have dropped. The Thrawn Trilogy is certainly accepted as one of the best trilogies as far as books. One of my favorites was the ORIGINAL expanded universe novel by Alan Dean Foster (who novellised Alien) 'Splinter Of The Mind's Eye'. Tales of books are also very good and give you an idea of expanded universe writers that you may like. As I said there are alot of novels out there not so good, e.g. As a classic Star Wars fan, most of Drew Karshyn's (sp) books don't appeal to me and Bioware lore of the universe is somewhat grating so again I'd recomend to avoid those. I'd also look at graphic novels such as The Golden Age of The Sith and if you can pick up the orignal Marvel comic series, you won't go wrong.

I get the impression that the OP's opinions stem from the fact that this happens to be an MMO, which he has a problem dealing with.

Gotta say... I will be buying it. I have huge issues with the game and have done since before release. I'm not confident that the expansion will change much. Why am I getting it? Simply I thought the HK content was as Star Wars as the game has been in general direction. First time I actually played with no critique or suggestion other than the 'core' worlds from the original release. Theoretika was atmospherically brilliant, I played that Alt+Z to add to the feel. Have loads of things I'd like to see included, like companion (if we're so forced to having them) conversations taking place BEFORE lift off, I want to sit in the cockpit in the hangar and look out. I'd like to see characteristic spaceports on each planet rather than copy and paste generic fodder that's currently in use. And loads of other things too, mini-games etc. etc. Is this dev team capable of doing that??...

It's everybody's opinion that knows anything about Star Wars..... EAware design disgusts me to the core. They show absoloutley no knowledge of the feel or look of the universe other than shoehorning tampered iconic pieces in and hope we don't notice. What a bunch of clueless people... Most of the Sith designs look like syringes; which is ironic because EA were literally on drugs when saying yes. What I had hoped was that Disney would rescind the license (due to tarnishing, deformation of the IP the license name etc.)and LucasArts maintained it in-house.... rather than umm, outhouse, I'll let you all finish the punchline.

Better be careful organising our own events... we may get charged extra for that too.

Everyone knows that EA are a dirty low down business with no morals or customer ethics... The Only words I have left are to unsub and the let the game die, and hope that a company bereft of any scruples will never again get to destroy an IP such as this.

It's pretty bad, generally speaking. It's terrible and has drove alot of people away from the game... and that's based on friends of friends, threads here and others around the webs. General chat up until F2P was as I described, a 'cesspit'. People and guilds like yourselves get lost in the quagmire. Just because you blind yourself to it, doesn't make it disappear or go away. But there is hope, the community seems a bit better from F2P. From my perspective I believe the subs solidify as a core in a proposed rejection of freebies thus creating a core hence better community (applied only to POT5). Speculation on my part, based on nothing but education in the right areas.... you can tell your friends you read that on the internet

Have you seen the way people interact as a 'community'?? and you'd like to add voice chat into the mix. BW are aware there are 3rd party applications. As are anyone/guilds that run any form of PvP/PVE. And participants in any of these activities will be propmted for VC unless it's a completely PUG. Those who play the game as an MMO will have these things. Those who play as a SPG won't. Of course generally speaking. Personally I don't think the community is mature enough or ready for in-ga\me VC. And because BW are aware that 3rd party tools exist, I can't see them re-directing time or effort into this feature unless the game grows substantially.

The TOR community has been a cesspit since day 1, rubbish community, worst of any MMO I've played in 15 years. Actually since F2P I've felt a growing sense of community, and I'm not the first to say so. When I say growing, there was a slight blip on the heart monitor.

Tales of the Jedi and Golden Age of The Sith are some of the best graphic novels about. Better than this drivel presented in the game which is a confused clone wars hack rather than the proper Old Republic era.
